Abstract

This article is the result of a study on "French Language Guide in Tana Toraja". This study aims to analyze the mistakes made by tour guides in Tana Toraja in French. The subjects in this study were 3 French-speaking tour guides, and the object in this study was a mistake in French. This study uses descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis methods with a theory approach to analyzing language errors in the Tarigan model that divides language errors into misformation, omission, addition, and misorder which will then be searched for factors causing language errors by tour guides in Tana Toraja. After conducting research, the results of the analysis show that all tour guides make mistakes in French, and the most dominant tour guide makes mistakes is the tour guide 1. The error is caused by performance factors such as experience and communication goals and competency factors, namely education.

Abstract

This research intends to elaborate the effect of mass media abuses through Dellilo’s White Noise. Therefore, the researchers analyzed how the effect of mass media abuses influence the character through the novel. In analyzing this research, the researchers used genetic structuralism approach as the grand theory and concept of mass media as the supporting theory. Moreover, the writer used qualitative method and descriptive analysis method in analyzing the data. The result of this research is the writers finds there are three effect of mass media abuses such as (1) consumerism, (2) drug abuses, and (3) violence.

Abstract

This study examined the speech act of request appeared in a television show, Little Big Shots UK. It was a descriptive qualitative study, which the data were utterances in the form of sentences, clauses or words in Little Big Shots UK. The data were collected through the observation and non-participatory technique and analyzed by using the pragmatic identity analysis. The objective of this study was to find out the types of request strategies applied by the speakers in the Little Big Shots UK using the theory of Trosborg (1995). From the collected data, researcher found 37 data of requesting speech act, which 13 (35,1%) data categorized as direct request (2 data using necessity/obligation strategy; 2 data using performative strategy; and 9 data using imperative strategy), 12 (32,4%) data categorized as hearer-oriented condition (8 data using ability/willingness strategy; 4 using suggestory formulae strategy), 11 (29,7%) data categorized as speaker-based condition (9 data using wishes/desire strategy; 2 data using needs/demands strategy), and 1 (2,7%) data categorized as indirect (mild hint strategy).

Abstract

This paper  aims to elaborate the  lessons life from Santiago as the main character in the novel The Alchemist, especially in the current milineal  era where the presence of technology is very rapid. This condition requires young people to keep learning human values that technology does not thought it. Literary works as one of the ideas that produce cultural works reflect human values through characters in novel stories. This journal focuses on the study of the main characters using a dynamic literary approach. In analyzing the text data, the  researchers used the qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study teach the reader several things, namely; First, the life is a struggle that must be resolved wholeheartedly. Second, everyone must learn from anything and anyone including animals because whatever happens in the universe is actually a teacher. Then the human  must dare to fight for and be responsible for life by accepting all the consequences. Finally, each problem of life must be faced patiently.

Abstract

Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana harmonisasi masyarakat Tengger dalam upacara yadnya karo.dengan rumusan masalah tentang bagaimana harmonisasi mastarakat Suku Tengger dalam upacara yadnya karo dan bagaimana mereka mempertahankan keharmonisasian pada upacara yadnya karo Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data di peroleh melalui observasi yang bersifat wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview) dengan subjek yang pertama pemuka adat desa tosari dan masyarakat desa tosari. Teknik pengumpulan data yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan sebagai bentuk analisa untuk mengelola data hasil penelitian.untuk meganalisis judul penelitian menggunakan teori dari Talcot Parson teori AGIL Hasil penelitian yang di dapat menunjukkan bahwa harmonisasi masyarakat Tengger dalam upacara yadnya karo menjadi sebuah ruang atau wadah  masyarakat tengger untuk menjaga kekerabatan dan mempertahankan upacara yadnya karo.

Abstract

This research mainly aimed to find out the similarities and differences in both novels “The Great Gatsby” and “Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck”. The data analysis of this research are from both novels which focus on the main characters’ positions.  In analyzing the data, the writer used descriptive comparative method by using Human Models and Heroes of French School in Comparative Literature. The result of this research concluded that the similarities found in main characters’ position, where Gatsby’s position and Zainuddin’s position, they are kind and loyal. They are obsessed on their girl. They are loyal to their own love. While the differences found between Gatsby and Zainuddin are mysterious, fake and religious. Gatsby is a mysterious one while Zainuddin has a clear past description. Gatsby hides his identity and his past to people around him. While Zainuddin is a religious one so that he willing to let Hayati marry to the other man because of his belief in Islam. Zainuddin is the character that has a compassion to people around him.

Abstract

This article discusses the social facts experienced by Americans in literature, especially novel. Literary work as a social documentation imagined by the author is a reflection of the values of a nation or ethnicity. The main objective of research is to trace the reality of slavery that occurred in America as a social fact in literary works. This research is useful in strengthening the sociological aspects of literary works as well as proving that literary works save a social reality at the time so that readers are able to judge literary works not merely as fiction, but also as social documentation. The writer in this study uses one of the literary research methods, namely Genetic Structuralism Approach. This method emphasizes three main aspects, namely literary work, the background of the author's life, and social reality. Novel Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl written by Harriet Ann Jacobs in 1858 was used as primary research data, then a number of references about the author's social background and the reality of slavery in the history of the American nation became secondary data. Primary and secondary research data obtained through literature study. Based on the results of this study found the events of slavery in the history of the American nation. Slavery was the act of white Americans forcibly employing black Negroes on the lands of plantation and agricultural also mining areas. Slavery is a valuable lesson for Americans in protecting human rights today as well as a historic lesson in building the American national spirit, namely freedom, independence, and democracy. The reality of slavery is reflected in the novel Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl as well as the life experience of its author, Harriet Ann Jacobs.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the use of modality in news text. This research expected to improve public media literacy in identifying hoax news through modality analysis. This research presented qualitative descriptive data with systemic functional linguistic approach. This study focused on type, value, and modality orientation. The research data resource was Hoax Report of Legislative and President Election Internet Content Control Sub-directorate for the period of August 2018 by Ministry of Communication and Information of Republic Indonesia. The research result showed that modality type possibility modalization intermediate degree and modulity type obligation modulation intermediate degree to dominate other types of modality.  There were also types of modality that were not found in hoax-text news. They were modality type of usuality modalization of medium degree and modality type of inclination modulation of low degree.

Abstract

The internalization of the values of Rasai cultural wisdoms by Tabanga community in Ternate City is an effort to instil a sense of brotherhood towards others. This Rasai culture has been built not relying on the same blood, culture and religion. Rather, it relies on the recognition, appreciation, and mutual agreement among parties. This is an effort to minimize and avoid negative impacts of intolerant attitudes among social groups. This study focuses on the assimilation and adaptation processes among social groups with multicultural basis which characterize the people of Ternate. This study aims at analyzing the assimilation and adaptation processes among social groups through the internalization of the values of Rasai cultural wisdoms in Tabanga community in Ternate City; analyzing the inhibiting factors of the internalization of the values of Rasai culturaln wisdoms in knitting the tolerance attitudes among social groups; and analyzing the impacts of Rasai culture of Tabanga community in Ternate City. This study applied ethnographic approach. The results of the study show that the assimilation and adaptation processes among social groups through the internalization of the values of Rasai cultural wisdoms in Tabanga community in Ternate City are able to knit the tolerance attitudes among social groups. This is evident in the embodiment of mutual cooperation attitudes and collaboration among social groups either among religious groups or among ethnic groups in Tabanga community of Ternate City. The inhibiting factors of the internalization of the values of Rasai cultural wisdoms in knitting the tolerance attitudes among social groups include the dominance of kinship, the low level of education achievement of the community, and not yet built a model of multicultural society-based attitude building in Tabanga community of Ternate City. The attitude of openness of Ternate community in responding the existence of Rasai culture is so strong. In addition, such culture is one of the instruments to strongly develop a peaceful civilizationof the future of North Maluku.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of cartoon films on the ability to tell children aged 4 to 5 years and other factors that affect the ability to tell children aged 4 until 5 years. The method used in this study is a method that combines qualitative and quantitative methods using experimental design. The population of 30 PAUD Nurhidayah students in Barru Regency and the number of samples in this study were 46% of the population, which consisted of two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The instruments used in this study were observation, preliminary and final tests, interviews for the control group and the experimental group, interviews with class teachers and students' parents. The results of this study indicate that the influence of cartoon films on the ability to tell children aged 4 until 5 years has increased. Both in the experimental group and in the control group. This is evidenced that in the experimental group 42.86% of children scored very good categories, 57.14% with good categories, while in the control group 37.50% the categories were not good, 5.88% categories failed. The average increase in the experimental group from pretest to posttest was 14.29%. The average pretest value of the experimental group was 58.29%, while the mean score of the posttest was 86.86%. The mean score of the pretest in the control group was 35.43% and the posttest mean score was 44.00%. Another factor that affects the ability to tell children aged 4 until 5 years is habit. The habit of storytelling at home and the habit of storytelling during the research fostered courage and confidence in children to tell stories.
