Abstract

This study focused on discourse of the tribal religion in narrative poetry munaba from Waropen ethnic, Papua. Munaba was selected due to its familiar and grounded in local communities in the area. Research approach is based on text and context. The approach focused on literary works and based on some aspects such as history, culture, and religion. The study used descriptive qualitative method which uncovered facts, phenomenon and variable. The study as well interpreted data related to given situation, the view points of society, conflicts, the difference between facts, and the influence of particular problem which was studied and investigated. The data was obtained from oral literature which was shared by the native speakers. In addition, the research also applied observation. Data source is munaba in Waropen language. The original data has been transliterated from a number of informants then it’s translated into bahasa. Based on the discourse theory and anthropology literature analysis, the study found some forms tribal religion such as the believing in God, believing in the spririt of ancestor, and believing in magic power.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang bertujuan (1) mendeskripsikan proses penerapan metode bercerita untuk meningkatkan peran aktif berbicara siswa dwibahasawan, (2) menemukan peningkatan peran aktif berbicara siswa dwibahasawan di Pelangi School Ubud setelah metode bercerita diterapkan, dan (3) memaparkan lebih lanjut pengaruh metode bercerita terhadap motivasi belajar siswa dan peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa dwibahasawan Pelangi School Ubud. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa proses penerapan metode bercerita dalam penelitian ini merupakan suatu proses pembelajaran berbicara yang sangat efektif dan menyenangkan bagi siswa dwibahasawan. Siswa telah mampu mengutarakan ide-ide dan pertanyaan berkaitan dengan penerapan proses bercerita dan mampu secara aktif berbicara dalam bahasa Indonesia. Metode bercerita terbukti cukup mampu membantu peningkatan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Indonesia siswa. Secara kualitatif, siswa terbukti dapat berbicara dengan pilihan kata dan ujaran yang lebih baik.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the translation of material cultural terms found in the bilingual book entitled The Bali Arts Festival Album and their translation into English. There are two things being discussed in this study. The first problem is how the semantics frame elements of Balinese cultural terms in The Bali Art Festival Album are compared with their translation equivalents? The second one is what translation procedures are adopted to translate the cultural terms in The Bali Art Festival Album? The cultural terms found in the book entitled The Bali Arts Festival Album were analyzed by using frame semantic analysis (Fillmore, 1982) and elaborated into componential analysis (Newmark, 1988). The translation procedures implemented in the translation of those cultural terms were analyzed based on the procedures proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet (in Venuti, 2000). The material cultural terms in the book entitled The Bali Arts Festival Album are identified. They are Balinese cultural terms. The translator applied two procedures of translation in translating the Balinese cultural terms. They are borrowing and literal.

Abstract

Text based approach is one of the approaches implemented in 2013 curriculum which is ignored by the English teacher in teaching. Besides, the teacher has not yet related the materials taught with the learners` environment, especially the local excellences. This research aims to give a description both quantitatively and qualitatively on how the result of descriptive writing skill of the 7th graders’ of SMP Kristen Payeti before and after the implementation of text-based approach using ecotext with the theme of horse `njara` is. The data were collected through pretest, observation during the treatment, and posttest. This research uses concurrent embedded design in which the qualitative method is embedded or nested within the quantitative method. The results show that before the treatment the average achievement of the learners in composing descriptive text was 62. It is below the minimum completion criteria (KKM), that is 70. Individually, only 10 of 32 learners passed the exam. After the treatment, the average achievement became 78.69 or increased by 16.69 on five aspects analyzed, content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanic. Only 3 of 32 learners failed. In addition, the treatment is suitable with the perspective of ecolinguistics in language learning, mainly the relation, the context, the emergence, the quality, the variability, and the activity. In conclusion, text based approach using ecotext can be implemented to improve the learners skill in writing descriptive text.

Abstract

Abstract The reformation commencing since 1998, has not just had the effect toward sociopolitical, socio-economy and Indonesian cultural changes, but also it has the effect toward the usage of Indonesian language. One of the effects is the appearance of Power and Solidarities in using pronominal personals, both the first, second or the third pronominal personals. This writing tries to review the usage and the rule of power and solidarity of the first, second and third pronominal personals. Well, pronominal personals aku, ku, engkau, and kalian are really no longer used anymore in this Reformation era. Even it is common taken place that the first singular personal are often used as kami. The second pronominal personal engkau and kamu are seldom used. On the other hand, the form of anda and kalian or saudara are more frequently used. The pronominal beliau for the third person referring to the rule is common for the word superior, and in this reformation era is used for kamu as superior

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris yang teridentifikasi, jenis koreksi diri pada kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris, dan pengaruh koreksi diri pada kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris terhadap ketepatan berbicara oleh karyawan DGITS Software House. Jenis data dalam penelitian ini adalah data lisan yang berupa ujaran bahasa Inggris karyawan DGITS Software House. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik rekam dan teknik lanjutan berupa teknik catat. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode penyajian hasil analisis berupa metode formal dan informal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bentuk-bentuk kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris yang teridentifikasi oleh karyawan DGITS Software House terdiri dari empat bentuk kesalahan, yaitu kesalahan kategori linguistik, kesalahan taksonomi siasat permukaan, kesalahan taksonomi komparatif, dan kesalahan taksonomi efek komunikatif. Jenis koreksi diri pada kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris yang ditemukan adalah koreksi pesan yang berbeda, koreksi kesesuaian, koreksi kesalahan, dan koreksi tersembunyi. Selain itu, hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa koreksi diri pada kesalahan ujaran bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan oleh karyawan DGITS Software House dapat meningkatkan ketepatan berbicara.

Abstract

This study focused on the symbolic violence discourse in Wandiudiu folklore from Lakudo Buton district of Southeast Celebes. The story was selected due to its familiar and grounded in local communities in the area. Research approach is based on text and context. In which the approach focused on literary work and based many aspects such as history, culture, and religion. The living values in the society would be attributed with social construction of the story.The study used descriptive qualitative method which uncovered facts, circumstances, and phenomenon. The study as well intepreted data related to given situation, the view points of society, conflicts, the difference between facts, and the influence of particular problem which was studied and investigated. The data was obtained from oral literature which was shared by the native speakers. In addition, the research also applied observation. Data source is either Wandiudiu folklore in Buton native language, or transliterated from a number of informants in the area. Based on the analysis, the study found some forms of symbolic power discourse included, complience, and dicipline.

Abstract

Abstrak Analisis Kontrastif, sering disingkat menjadi “anakon” adalah sebuah pendekatan pembelajaran bahasa terutama kepada peserta didik yang bilingual. Anakon sering dipertentangkan dengan “anakes” (Analisis Kesalahan) berbahasa. Sesungguhnya kedua aspek ini berbeda konsep dan berbeda pula sifat dari obyek materialnya. Keduanya mempunyai hubungan korelatif karena memiliki sasaran yang sama yakni peserta didik pembelajar bahasa kedua. Pendekatan Anakon yang dijalankan secara disiplin dan saksama sesuai dengan medium, gaya, ragam, dan konteks akan dapat mencegah terjadinya interferensi. Peristiwa dan kondisi interferensi itu merupakan peluang utama terjadinya kesalahan berbahasa. Dengan demikian Anakes merupakan salah satu langkah jika diperlukan untuk mengevaluasi terjadinya interferensi. Salah satu manfaat Anakon ialah menanamkan ketaatan bilingual dalam menggunakan masing-masing bahasa secara disiplin sesuai konteks. Seorang guru bahasa yang baik jika memiliki dan menguasai sejumlah pendekatan, metode, atau strategi pembelajaran. Anekdot yang perlu direnungkan bahwa semua metode itu baik tetapi sangat ditentukan oleh ketrampilan guru dan kesesuaian materi. Khusus untuk pendekatan Anakon perlu dimiliki oleh para guru bahasa yang bekerja dalam masyarakat multilingual dan multicultural seperti di Nusa Tenggara Timur. Abstract Contrastive analysis is usually called Anakon. It is an approach used for studying, especially for bilingual student. Anakon is different from Anakes (error analysis). These two concepts are actually not the same. However, they have the same goal, that is a bilingual student. To prevent the interference, the Anakon approach must be based on four things such as manner, context, medium and style. The error analysis of language usually occurred because of the event and the condition of interference So that, the Anakes (Analisis Kesalahan) is a one way to evaluate the process of the interference. The benefit of Anakon is to maintain the way or strategy of how to use language that relevant to the context. A good language teacher must know much about approach, method, and strategy. As an anecdote, we have to say that, all methods are actually good. However, it depends much on the skill and the material provided. The Anakon approach is very useful for multilingual and multicultural language teacher in Nusa Tenggara Timur province.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the forms of jargon which used by the employees especially in sales & marketing department in favehotel Bali. The analysis was limited to the jargon form in acronym, abbreviation, word and phrase which speech by the employees of sales & marketing department in favehotel Bali. The data were elaborated on the analysis and presented qualitatively using sosiolinguistics theory. This theory is used to analyze the forms of jargon that found in the employees of sales & marketing department’s speech.The result of the study showed that abbreviation is the most form of jargon that found in the employees of sales & marketing department’s speech in favehotel Bali. The use of jargon is used by employees of sales and marketing department only to create a communication easier. The meaning of jargon itself is not confidential, however not many people can understand its meaning easily if they do not as the group of sales & marketing department. Linguistics patterns in sales & marketing department especially in Favehotel Bali has its own characteristics.

Abstract

Pada sekitar tahun 1990-an mulai terkenal nama sebuah pertunjukan wayang kulit Cénk Blonk yang digagas oleh I Wayan Nardayana, dalang muda dari Desa Belayu, Kecamatan Marga, Kabupaten Tabanan. Dia berhasil membuat wayang kulit Bali diminati kembali oleh penontonnya akibat kepiawaiannya melakukan inovasi dalam teatrikal pertunjukannya dan juga dalam menata wacana lelucon yang dapat menghibur serta penuh dengan tuntunan dan kritik sosial. Sampai saat ini wayang Cénk Blonk masih sangat eksis dan laris di Bali dengan bayaran pementasan yang cukup tinggi dan setiap pementasannya selalu dipadati penonton. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk dapat mendeskripsikan, bagaimana sang dalang mengemas wacana kritik sosial dalam pementasannya, khususnya dalam pementasan Lakon Diah Gagar Mayang yang merupakan lakon terlaris pada puncak kejayaannya. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang cermat terhadap wacana-wacana kritik sosial yang dikomunikasikan terutama lewat tokoh-tokoh punakawannya, dapat diketahui bahwa wacana kritik sosial dikemas dalam bentuk (1) perumpamaan, (2) plesetan berbentuk singkatan, dan (3) berbentuk paribasa Bali (sesenggakan, sloka, bebladbadan).
