Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kesalahan pelafalan bunyi dalam bahasa Rusia oleh para karyawan yang meng-handle wisatawan Rusia di Bali serta memberikan cara untuk mengoreksi kesalahan tersebut dari segi ilmu linguistik. Bahasa Rusia, yang masuk dalam rumpun bahasa Slavia dan banyak digunakan oleh para karyawan perusahaan yang meng- handle wisatawan Rusia di Bali, memiliki susunan gramatika dan fonetik jauh lebih kompleks dibandingkan dengan bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris (Fadillah:2006). Secara fonetik, terdapat beberapa huruf bahasa Rusia yang tidak terdapat dalam bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris, seperti э [e], ж [zh], щ [shy], ь (tanda pelunak), ы [euy], dan ъ (tanda pengeras) yang sering menimbulkan masalah dalam pelafalan bunyi kata yang berisi huruf-huruf tersebut. Kesalahan pelafalan bunyi huruf dalam bahasa rusia terjadi karena adanya interpensi dari bahasa ibu (native tongue), juga kurangnya pengetahuan tentang artikulasi bunyi huruf tersebut. Koreksi terhadap kesalahan pelafalan bunyi dalam bahasa Rusia mutlak dilakukan untuk meningkatkan jasa pelayanan terhadap kunjungan wisatawan Rusia yang semakin meningkat setiap tahunnya. Abstract This research attempts to discuss the mistake of pronunciation in Russian language committed by the workers who are handling Russian tourists in Bali and give some correction of the mistake in linguistics. Russian language which is belong to Slavia group and it is widely used by the workers of a company which is handling Russian tourists in Bali, has much more complicated grammatical and phonetical pattern than Indonesian and English (Fadillah:2006). Phonetically, there are some letter which are found neither in Indonesian nor in English, like э [e], ж [zh], щ [shy], ь (a soft sign), ы [euy], dan ъ (a hard sign). If these letters are occurred in words they will often cause some problems in pronunciation. The mistake of pronunciation in Rusian is mostly commited due to the interference of the native tongue and also lack of phonological knowledge on the proper sounds of the language. Correction of the mistakes is absolutely needed in order to increase the quality of service towards the Russian tourists who are getting increased and increased every year.

Abstract

This article entitled Writing Skill of English Argumentative Discourse Using Engage, Study, and Activate Method on Post Intermediate Level's Student in STIE Triatma Mulya. The aims of this study are to find out (1) the students competence in writing argumentative discourse and (2) the factors hindered students in witing argumentative discourse. The main theory used in this research is the theory from Brown (2007). The data was collected using observation, interview, documentation, and tes method. The tehniques used were check list, note, and written test.  The result shows that the students’ competence in writing argumentative discourse improved as much as 4,14 %. Some aspects that showed improvements are gramatical cohesive devices, word choice, and mechanic. But, grammar needs to be improved, because this aspect decrease as much as 0, 34 %. The factors hindered students competence in writing argumentative discourse are the types of discourse itself, grammar, and word choice

Abstract

Kajian kesetaraan klausa ini membahas sifat kesetaraan klausa dalam kalimat majemuk setara. Masalah kesetaraan ini dipilih karena pembicaraan mengenai kalimat majemuk setara selalu diasumsikan bahwa sifat kesetaraan klausa selalu sejenis, yaitu setara mutlak. Pada kalimat majemuk setara yang berunsur dua klausa, konstruksi klausa-klausanya dibangun setara mutlak. Namun, pada kalimat majemuk setara bahasa Bali yang berunsur tiga klausa, kesetaraan klausanya tidak selalu bersifat mutlak (tidak sejenis). Kesetaraan dapat bersifat mutlak atau berjenjang bergantung pada ada tidaknya penggugusan yang membedakan sifat keunsurlangsungan klausanya. Jika setiap klausa diturunkan dari simpul yang sama, kesetaraannya bersifat mutlak. Sebaliknya, jika setiap klausa tidak diturunkan dari simpul yang sama, kesetaraan menjadi berjenjang (bergugus).

Abstract

Every human species community has language. No matter whether they are primitive or not. A language certainly has numeral that covers primary numeral and derivative numeral. These two kinds of numeral as the basic aspect in arithmathic. The culture development of the ethnic group really depends on the language and the primary numeral. Based on the concept above. There was a question to be answered. “How is the variety system of the primary numeral formerly in East Nusa Tenggara spreads on more than 42 island. Every member of social group from East Nusa Tenggara knew the difference of this attitude and behavior. Although, it was difficult to know why and how there were difference and similarity. To answer the confusion, the society and the government really need a scientific research to be conducted professionally. This report was the result of the ethic and emic study with an ethnography approach by Spradley, “A development research sequence”. This research was conducted individually and it was known as the beginning research that covers only the way how to determine the ethic with its ethic and enmic. The finding shows that East Nusa Tenggara has 37 traditional social groups based on the way how to name the numeral. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca intensif siswa kelas V SDK Pau Ndoa menggunakan strategi PQ4R dan media teks cerita rakyat Rongga. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran yakni kombinasi antara metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif khususnya model concurrent (kombinasi campuran) dengan bobot metode kualitatif lebih tinggi dari pada metode kuantitatif. Metode dan teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan observasi, kuesioner, dan tes. Data kuantitatif dianalisis menggunakan metode statistik sederhana dalam bentuk persentase (%), sedangkan data kualitatif dianalisis dengan menggunakan kata-kata. Terdapat tiga aspek penilaian kemampuan membaca intensif siswa, yakni kecepatan membaca, pemahaman isi, dan simpulan isi cerita. Rentang nilai yang digunakan sebagai standar penilaian hasil akhir belajar siswa terbagi atas lima kategori, yakni sangat kurang (<40), kurang (41--55), cukup (56--70), baik (71--85), dan baik sekali (86--100). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pada siklus I dan siklus II. Pada tahap pratindakan, dari Sembilan belas siswa SDK Pau Ndoa, Kabupaten Manggarai Timur yang dijadikan subjek penelitian, hanya dua orang siswa dengan persentase 11% yang dinyatakan tuntas mencapai standar KKM 60 yang diberlakukan di sekolah tersebut. Pada siklus I terdapat sembilan orang siswa dengan persentase 47% yang mencapai standar KKM atau terjadi peningkatan sebesar 36%. Pada siklus II semua siswa telah mencapai KKM. Ada dua faktor yang memengaruhi peningkatan kemampuan membaca intensif siswa SDK Pau Ndoa, yakni faktor internal yang meliputi penguasaan terhadap strategi PQ4R, peningkatan motivasi dan rasa percaya diri dalam membaca, dan peningkatan kemampuan membaca cepat. Sebaliknya, faktor eksternal meliputi penerapan strategi PQ4R dan penggunaan cerita lokal sebagai sumber belajar.

Abstract

Interpreter has an important role in bridging communication of the people from different language and culture. Therefore, he or she should apply strategies of interpreting in rendering long and complicated utterances which is done simultaneously. It is interesting and challenging in analyzing simultaneous interpreting because it has a complexity in rendering the rendition at the same time as the speaker. The aim of this study is to analyze the strategies of simultaneous interpreting at press conference applied at the 2013 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit Conference. The methodology of this study is qualitative research through non-participative observation by observing the product of simultaneous interpreting involving the speaker, journalists and interpreter and recorded them by audio digital recorder. The audio recording data were transcribed into written texts. The relevant data were classified related to the strategies and it is analyzed through a descriptive analysis. There were ten strategies applied by the interpreter in simultaneous interpreting, i.e., reformulation, efficiency in reformulation, simplification, strategy applied if the interpreter made mistake, strategy applied if the speaker made mistake, avoids committing in rendering joke, anticipation, explanation, omission, and summarizing (addition).

Abstract

Anstract Catholics of Manggarai ethnic (UKEM) in the district of Manggarai have experienced a verbal alienation due to an awkward Manggarai language (ML) used in Catholic religus activities (K3). As native speakers of ML, people even do not understand such an awkward language. Furthermore, they do not find any value behind the usage of such a language. Statistically, their comprehension on such a language is only 43,22%, wich is categorized as do not comprehend. Religious meaning and value wich are not comprehended consist of love, faithfulness, unity, and peace. The contributing factor of such a condition is that the ML used in K3 with religious meaning and value has uniqueness in such aspects as forms, superstructures, and passage-micro structures. The uniqueness in the first aspect is indicated by monolog passage in horizontal dimension, while the second’s by the passage consisting of introduction, pre-core, core, pre-closing, and conclusion, each of witch has communication content. In the terms of micro structures, the uniqueness is indicated by the use of allophones [o] and [i], as well as alliteration, rhytme, assonance, and parallelism related to human’s body and plants.

Abstract

Balinese and English have different grammatical structure and English does not have speech level like Balinese. The condition may cause both linguistic and cultural shifts to make the translation equivalent. This difference becomes a challenge for translators in finding the closest natural equivalent of Balinese terms of address in English or vice versa. This study analyzed types of shifts in translation occurred in the translation of the terms of address from Balinese into English in puppet shadow script ‘Lubdaka’. This study belonged to qualitative study approach and used descriptive method. The primary data is the translation of terms of address from Balinese into English directly taken from puppet shadow script and its translation into English of the Lubdaka story in the book The Invisible Mirror of Siwaratri Kalpa (2008). Shifts in translation in the data occurred in grammatical (transposition) and in point of view (modulation). There are four types of shifts that belong to the grammatical: structure shift, class shift, unit shift, and intra-system shift. Meanwhile, there are three types of shifts found that belongs to the shift in point of view: lexical dense shift, lexical loose shift, and emphasizing on 2nd person.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna implisit situasional dalam bahasa Inggris dan terjemahannya dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Data makna implisit situasional diambil dari novel berbahasa Inggris yang berjudul Twilight (Meyer: 2005) dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan judul yang sama, Twilight (Meyer: 2009). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna implisit situasional dapat dikategorikan ke dalam empat tipe makna implisit, yaitu makna implisit situasional karena hubungan antara pembicara dan lawan bicaranya, waktu dan tempat di mana komunikasi terjadi; presuposisi yang ada dalam komunikasi, dan latar belakang budaya pembicara dan lawan bicaranya. Prosedur penerjemahan yang diimplementasikan oleh penerjemah meliputi penerjemahan langsung (Literal Translation), borrowing, transposisi dan kesepadanan (Equivalence). Prosedur kesepadanan adalah prosedur yang paling sering digunakan oleh penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan makna implisit situasional. Ini menunjukkan bahwa penerjemah berorientasi pada bahasa sasaran. Berdasarkan analisa konteks situasi dan konteks budaya, penerjemahan makna implisit situasional memiliki kesepadanan yang berterima dalam bahasa sasaran, yaitu bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstrak Makalah ini membahas perihal revitalisasi bahasa Dhao, sebuah bahasa dengan sekitar 3000 penutur di Pulau Ndao, Provinsi NTT. Pembahasan difokuskan pada pemanfaatan dan digitalisasi teks lisan untuk berbagai tujuan. Agar teks lisan dapat dimanfaatkan, maka digunakan teknologi digitalisasi – perekaman, anotasi, penyuntingan, dan lain-lain. Hasilnya, konstruksi kalimat, tataurut kata, intonasi, data leksikal dan berbagai expresi diperoleh secara alamiah. Untuk tujuan pendidikan, maka dilakukan penyuntingan rekaman yang nantinya menyertai teks tertulis hasil transkripsi. Dengan digitalisasi, upaya pengembangan ranah dan fungsi bahasa Dhao dapat tercapai. Transmisi bahasa pun tidak hanya mengandalkan kemampuan para penutur, melainkan pengalaman berbahasa secara alamiah yang terdokumentasi dengan baik. Kata Kunci: Kepunahan, Dokumentasi, Teks, Digitalisasi, Revitalisasi Abstract This paper deals with the revitalization of Dhao, a language spoken by about 3000 people in Ndao Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The discussion focuses on the use and digitalization of oral text for multipurpose function. To make the oral text useful, the digitalization technology is used ? recording, annotation, editing, etc. As the result, sentence construction, word order, intonation, lexical data, and variety of expressions are naturally produced. For educational purposes, recording editing must be done in order that the edited recording can usefully accompany the written text of transcribed data. By digitalization, the effort of developing domains and functions of Dhao can be reached. The language transmission depends not only on the speakers’ competence, but also the natural speaking experience which is well-documented.
