Abstract

Background of Study: Effective collaboration between teachers and parents is crucial in early childhood education. However, the absence of a standardized and psychometrically sound instrument to measure these dynamics in the Indonesian kindergarten context poses a challenge. Aims and Scope of Paper: This study aims to develop and validate a research instrument measuring teachers' two-way communication patterns and parental involvement. The novelty lies in its dual-construct design, rigorous psychometric validation, and contextual adaptation for Indonesian kindergartens. Methods: This development research employed a quantitative approach. The instrument consisted of two scales: Teacher Two-Way Communication (15 items) and Parental Involvement (31 items across six dimensions). The tool was tested on 150 parents of kindergarten students in Yogyakarta City. Item validity was analysed using Pearson Product-Moment correlation, and reliability was measured using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. Summary of Results or Findings: The findings indicate that all items in both scales were valid. The scales demonstrated very high reliability (Teacher Communication α = 0.92; Parental Involvement α = 0.88). Simple linear regression analysis revealed that teacher communication significantly influences parental involvement (R² = 0.462, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The study successfully produces a valid and reliable instrument and empirically confirms the critical role of teacher communication in fostering parental involvement. This tool is recommended for educators and researchers to facilitate better home-school collaboration.

Abstract

This study explores how pre-service Islamic Education teachers experience and interpret the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in designing instructional media during a teaching practicum program. Moving beyond performance-based evaluations of AI integration, the study conceptualizes AI as a socio-technical system that mediates pedagogical reasoning and professional identity formation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving eight undergraduate students. The data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to uncover the lived meanings of AI use in instructional practice. The findings reveal four interconnected themes: AI as a transformational tool in media creation, AI as a pedagogical support, AI as a catalyst for reshaping classroom dynamics, and AI as a mediating presence in the becoming of novice teacher identity. Participants experienced a transition from perceived limitation to expanded capability, accompanied by increased confidence and reflexivity. At the same time, AI integration generated ethical and pedagogical tensions requiring critical judgment and contextual sensitivity. These findings suggest that AI in teacher education functions not merely as a technical enhancer, but as an identity-mediating presence that reshapes authority, engagement, and professional self-understanding within value-laden educational contexts. The study contributes theoretically by extending AI-in-education discourse toward phenomenological inquiry and value-sensitive technology integration.

Abstract

The incorporation of digital media into early literacy learning is the main emphasis of this research, which examines digital literacy methods and techniques for improving children's early reading abilities. The study examined Scopus-indexed papers released between 2015 and 2025, utilizing a methodical literature review based on the PRISMA 2020 framework, and used the Watase Uwake tool to evaluate the use of digital literacy in early childhood education. Eight of the 133 identified articles satisfied the inclusion criteria for comprehensive analysis. According to the results, interactive digital media like augmented reality, digital storytelling, and instructional apps greatly aids in the early childhood development of reading comprehension, vocabulary, and phonological awareness. But the success of these digital interventions depends heavily on teachers' willingness to incorporate technology into the curriculum and on parents' active role in directing their children's digital experiences. In particular, there are research gaps pertaining to the roles of parental support and teacher readiness, particularly in the Indonesian setting. This study offers fresh perspectives on the integration of digital literacy into early reading instruction and emphasizes the need for cooperation between educators, parents, and legislators in order to create a positive learning environment. In order to guarantee the successful integration of technology into early childhood education both in Indonesia and throughout the world, the practical implications highlight the need for focused teacher training programs to improve their digital literacy. To get the most out of digital literacy for early reading development, these results highlight the necessity of a comprehensive strategy that includes all parties

Abstract

Early childhood education (ECE) requires a solid value foundation to ensure that children’s character formation, self-regulation, and social–emotional development evolve holistically and sustainably. However, studies in early childhood education and Qur’anic values are often treated as separate domains and have not yet been conceptually integrated within a developmentally appropriate pedagogical framework. This research aims to analyze the values of children’s education in QS. Luqmān (31): 13–18 based on Tafsīr al-Qurṭubī and formulating a conceptual model of early childhood character development that is in line with the principles of developmentally appropriate practice and play-based learning. This study uses a qualitative approach, with a literature research design and a thematic-conceptual interpretation analysis. The subject of the research is in the form of a QS text. Luqmān (31): 13–18 in Tafsīr al-Qurṭubī, supported by early childhood literature and contemporary character education. Data is analyzed through deep Reading, thematic coding, and conceptual interpretation. The results of the study show that Qur’anic values form an integrated structure of children’s character, including spiritual orientation, moral affection, self-regulation, social responsibility, and communication ethics. These findings have implications for the development of early childhood character education based on habituation, example, and meaningful play experience. This study concludes that Qur’anic values are relevant as the conceptual basis for holistic and contextual early childhood character education.

Abstract

Arabic language learning continues to face challenges related to surface-level instructional practices that emphasize memorization and structural mastery, often failing to foster learners’ awareness, meaning-making, and meaningful learning experiences. In response to shallow learning, the concept of deep learning has emerged in contemporary educational discourse; however, it has largely been developed within Western cognitive frameworks that tend to overlook the spiritual dimension of human learning. This article aims to analyze the concept of deep learning from a Qur’anic perspective through the framework of Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning and to examine its implications for Arabic language education. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a library research design. The data sources include selected Qur’anic verses related to learning, classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis, and relevant educational literature. Data were analyzed using a thematic–interpretative approach. The findings indicate that Qur’anic deep learning constitutes a holistic learning process that begins with awareness-based learning grounded in reason (mindful learning), progresses toward meaning-making grounded in the spiritual dimension (meaningful learning), and culminates in spiritual happiness rooted in the heart (joyful learning). These three dimensions are integrative and form a unified, transformative learning process. The implications of this study suggest that Arabic language learning should be reoriented from purely technical-linguistic approaches toward learning experiences that cultivate learners’ awareness, deep understanding, and spiritual joy. This article contributes theoretically by offering a Qur’anic-based framework of deep learning and provides a conceptual foundation for more holistic and meaningful Arabic language education.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the persistence of variations in junior high school students' ability to read the Qur’an, particularly in fluency, accuracy in makharij al-letters, application of tajweed, and consistency of practice. This research aims to analyze the main obstacles students face in developing the ability to read the Qur’an and to formulate contextual and applicable development strategies in the pesantren environment. The research uses a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through observation of Qur’an learning, in-depth interviews with caregivers and coaches, ustaz and ustazah, and students, and review of learning documents, including schedules, achievement targets, and evaluation notes. The data is analyzed thematically through the stages of data reduction, coding, theme development, and a conclusion is drawn. The results showed that student obstacles included differences in initial ability, limited time for independent practice, fluctuating motivation for learning, and uneven individual feedback over time. Development strategies considered adequate include early ability mapping, gradual learning based on talaqqi and tashih, structured murajaah habituation, increased mentoring intensity, and periodic evaluation against achievement indicators. These findings contribute as a basis for improving the Qur’an Reading coaching program in pesantren-based junior high schools to be more measurable, consistent, and sustainable.
