Abstract

Abstrak: Gulma sering dianggap sebagai tanaman pengganggu yang menurunkan produktivitas, namun gulma mengandung senyawa bioaktif seperti alkaloid, flavonoid, terpenoid, saponin, dan lainnya yang berpotensi dijadikan pestisida dan pupuk organik. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memberikan edukasi kepada petani di Desa Tanjung Dayang Utara, Sumatera Selatan, mengenai pemanfaatan gulma sebagai bahan dasar pestisida dan pupuk nabati yang ramah lingkungan serta berbiaya rendah. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi tahapan sosialisasi, penyuluhan, demonstrasi, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Sebanyak 50 petani dan tokoh masyarakat mengikuti pelatihan pembuatan pestisida gulma dengan dua metode: sederhana dan ekstraksi. Evaluasi dilakukan secara berjenjang melalui diskusi pra-penyuluhan, uji praktek saat penyuluhan, dan pengamatan pertumbuhan tanaman. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan softskill peserta dalam pengolahan gulma hingga 75%, serta penurunan biaya pembelian pestisida dan pupuk sintetis hingga 40%. Kegiatan ini juga meningkatkan kesadaran petani terhadap praktek pertanian berkelanjutan dan penggunaan sumber daya lokal. Diharapkan ilmu yang diperoleh dapat ditransfer ke petani lain sehingga berdampak lebih luas dalam mendorong kemandirian dan efisiensi usaha tani.Abstract: Weeds are often seen as nuisance plants that reduce crop productivity. However, they contain bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and saponins, which can be utilized as natural pesticides and organic fertilizers. This community service activity aimed to educate Tanjung Dayang Utara Village, South Sumatra farmers on using weeds as eco-friendly and low-cost agricultural inputs. The program involved socialization, counseling, presentations, mentoring, and evaluation. Fifty farmers and community leaders took part in training on pesticide production using simple and extraction methods. Evaluation was conducted through pre-counselling discussions, practical sessions, and plant growth observation. The activity improved participants' skills in weed processing by up to 75% and reduced the cost of synthetic pesticide and fertilizer use by up to 40%. It also increased awareness of sustainable farming practices and encouraged the use of local natural resources. The knowledge gained is expected to be shared with other farmers, fostering a broader impact through improved self-reliance and farming efficiency.

Abstract

The potential of soil microbes as biofertilizer agents to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity has garnered increasing attention in recent years. This study investigates the role of various soil microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes, in promoting plant growth and improving soil health. By examining the mechanisms through which these microbes contribute to nutrient cycling, nitrogen fixation, and phytohormone production, we aim to understand their impact on crop yields and soil properties. Field trials conducted in diverse agricultural settings demonstrate that the application of microbial biofertilizers can lead to significant improvements in crop productivity and soil fertility. The findings suggest that incorporating soil microbes into sustainable agricultural practices could be a viable strategy to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers and enhance long-term soil health

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis residu dwifungsi ABRI sebagai faktor penghambat agenda reformasi Tentara Nasional Indonesia pada masa Reformasi, dengan mengambil fokus pada momentum Revisi Undang-Undang Nomor 34 Tahun 2004 tentang Tentara Nasional Indonesia. Baik secara proses dan substansi, revisi UU a quo regresif terhadap reformasi TNI karena semakin membuka ruang perluasan peran militer di ranah sipil. Penelitian ini menggunakan tipe penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka (literature study). Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa terdapat residu dwifungsi ABRI dalam paradigma pemerintah dan DPR pada revisi UU TNI. Residu tersebut terlihat melalui habituasi peran militer di luar bidang pertahanan, serta ditopang sejumlah muatan revisi UU TNI. Akibatnya muatan revisi Undang-Undang a quo tidak promotif terhadap agenda reformasi TNI di Indonesia. Kondisi ini memperlihatkan pemahaman keliru tentang dwifungsi TNI oleh pemerintah dan DPR pada masa reformasi. Reformasi TNI yang semestinya menjadi agenda penting pemerintah pasca-Orde Baru untuk memastikan peran dan batasan yang tegas mengenai posisi dan peran militer dalam demokrasi, justru berjalan mundur dengan bayang-bayang dwifungsi militer melalui muatan-muatan revisi UU TNI.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. This Community Service (PKM) activity was carried out at Nurul Ilmi Junior High School, Banyuasin Regency, with the aim of enhancing students’ knowledge and skills in utilizing household waste to support environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The program emphasized the use of coconut fiber as a natural growing medium and used plastic cups as low-cost alternative planting containers. The implementation included educational sessions on types of household waste that can be repurposed, demonstrations of producing planting pots from used plastic cups, and hands-on practice in preparing planting media using coconut fiber. Fifty students are actively involved in the process of shredding coconut fiber, preparing the growing medium, and planting seedlings, allowing them to understand each stage of practical waste-utilization techniques. The results indicated an improvement in students’ understanding of organic and inorganic waste recycling, as well as their ability to create simple and functional planting pots. In addition, the program successfully increased students’ motivation to develop planting activities within the school environment. Overall, this PKM activity fostered environmental awareness through the application of the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R), while demonstrating that coconut fiber and used plastic cups are effective, accessible, and environmentally friendly planting media.

Abstract

Penerapan teknologi ramah lingkungan dilakukan di Desa Kota Daro II sebagai solusi praktis untuk mengurangi ketergantungan pada pupuk sintetis dalam pengolahan lahan pertanian. Teknologi ramah lingkungan tersebut diterapkan melalui pengolahan limbah sayuran menjadi pupuk cair organik guna mendukung pertanian yang ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan. Limbah sayuran dikumpulkan dari rumah tangga dan pasar lokal, kemudian difermentasi menggunakan aktivator biologis untuk menghasilkan pupuk organik cair yang kaya nutrisi. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan para petani di Desa Kota Daro II dalam memproduksi dan menerapkan pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar limbah sayuran, sehingga mendukung praktik pertanian berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan praktik langsung dalam produksi pupuk organik cair, pendampingan, dan evaluasi, yang dilaksanakan dengan partisipasi aktif dari 30 petani di desa tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemupukan dengan pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar limbah sayuran meningkatkan kesuburan tanah, memperbaiki pertumbuhan tanaman, serta meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan petani dalam pengelolaan limbah organik yang berkelanjutan. Disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknologi ramah lingkungan dalam pengelolaan limbah sayuran merupakan pendekatan yang efektif dan berkelanjutan untuk mendukung pertanian yang ramah lingkungan serta memperkuat keterampilan bertani mandiri di kalangan warga Desa Kota Daro II. Kata kunci: Bahan Organik Cair, Limbah, Pupuk, dan Teknologi Ramah Lingkungan.

Abstract

Plant health problems caused by pests and diseases remain a significant challenge for farmers, especially in cultivating red curly chili and cayenne pepper. Conventional reliance on synthetic pesticides raises environmental and economic concerns. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge in using biological agents as alternatives to synthetic pesticides to strengthen plant resistance. The program was carried out in Tanjung Dayang Utara Village, Ogan Ilir, through stages of preparation, implementation, evaluation, mentoring, and monitoring. Methods included lectures and demonstrations on using Pseudomonas fluorescens and Trichoderma sp. through seed soaking and soil or foliar application. A total of 50 farmers attended, receiving both theoretical and practical training. The evaluation was conducted in three phases: pre-, during, and post-activity. Previous approaches relied heavily on synthetic pesticides, while recent innovations emphasize ecological pest management using microbial antagonists. The outcomes showed a high level of enthusiasm and improved understanding among farmers regarding natural pest resistance mechanisms. Farmers were able to practice the propagation and application of beneficial microbes supported by educational materials. The program reduced farmers' dependency on chemical inputs and contributed to sustainable agricultural practices. This model using replicable in similar agroecosystems facing pest and disease issues. The main problem addressed was farmers’ limited knowledge and skills in utilizing biological control agents as environmentally friendly alternatives. The implementation consisted of preparation, training through lectures and demonstrations, field practice, and evaluation. The results indicated measurable improvements, including increased knowledge based on evaluation scores and reduced reliance on chemical pesticides

Utilization of medicinal plant extracts to reduce the mosaic disease complex of chili plant. Biodiversitas 26: 1303-1309. Viral diseases lead to substantial yield losses in chili cultivation, with the mosaic disease complex being one the most serious effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of medicinal plant extracts in protecting chili plants against mosaic disease complex in the field. This research was conducted at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The research was desgined in a factorial randomized block. The first factor was medicinal plant extracts: A. Annona muricata leaf extract; B. Datura metel leaf extract; C. Jatropha curcas leaf extract; D. Pachyrhizus erosus leaf extract; E. Azadirachta indica leaf extract; J. control. The second factor was the interval of application time: one week (W1), two weeks (W2), and three weeks (W3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The extracts were sprayed at 2% concentration on chili plants. Results showed that the application of medicinal plant leaf extracts, combined with different application intervals, effectively suppresses the mosaic disease complex in chili plants. Among the treatments, extracts of D. metel and A. indica applied at two-week intervals resulted in the lowest incidence and severity of mosaic disease, both in terms of percentage and intensity. Additionally, treated plants exhibited greater fruit yield and increased plant height compared to the control group. The effectiveness of D. metel and A. indica as biopesticides is attributed to their potent bioactive compounds. Notably, applying these extracts at two-week intervals reduced mosaic disease complex attacks to just 12.02%. Further research should be conducted to optimize application methods and assess long-term effects on crop productivity.

Abstract

[ARTHROPOD DIVERSITY IN RED CHILI CULTIVATION UNDER SUGAR PALM SHADE IN SOUTH SUMATRA]. Arthropods are essential components of terrestrial ecosystems, functioning as pollinators, decomposers, herbivores, and natural enemies, and their presence reflects the health of agricultural landscapes. The red chili agroforestry system under sugar palm shading in South Sumatra creates a favorable habitat for arthropod communities through the interaction of canopy cover, microclimate conditions, and plant diversity. This study aimed to analyze the structure, diversity, and ecological roles of arthropod communities associated with chili plants withinthis system. Sampling was conducted systematically across several plots, and collected specimens were identified and analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index, evenness, and dominance metrics. The results showed that the arthropod community consisted of various orders, with predators forming the dominant guild, followed by pollinators, herbivores, and decomposers. The balanced distribution of individuals among trophic groups indicates a stable community structure, while fluctuations in population density were associated with plant growth stages and seasonal variation. The agroforestry environment of chili plants shaded by sugar palms supports a functionally diverse arthropod community that contributes to maintaining biodiversity and enhancing natural pest regulation. Arthropods in shaded cultivation also experience a more stable microhabitat than those in open fields, allowing for stronger interspecific interactions, including predator–prey dynamics that aid in natural pest suppression. Sustained diversity suggests that agroforestry systems reduce environmental stress on arthropod populations, helping communities function effectively. Therefore, the findings of this study provide an important scientific foundation for developing sustainable agroforestry management strategies that improve ecosystem services and support resilient agricultural production. Abstract

Rendahnya mutu minyak kelapa yang dihasilkan masyarakat Pulau Friwen disebabkan penggunaan metode tradisional tanpa standar bahan baku, sanitasi peralatan, filtrasi, dan kontrol suhu sehingga kualitas minyak kurang stabil serta belum memiliki nilai jual optimal. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas produksi melalui sosialisasi, pelatihan teknis, dan pendampingan transformasi teknologi Friwen Coconut Oil (Frico) menggunakan pendekatan teknologi sederhana yang sesuai dengan kondisi pesisir. Pelatihan dilakukan melalui praktik langsung mulai dari pemarutan higienis, ekstraksi santan, pemisahan krim, pemanasan bertahap terkendali, filtrasi berlapis, hingga pengemasan steril disertai label produk. Pendampingan produksi diberikan untuk memastikan konsistensi alur kerja, penyamaan standar mutu, serta kemampuan peserta mereplikasi proses secara mandiri. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan masyarakat mampu menghasilkan minyak kelapa lebih jernih, stabil, beraroma netral, memiliki daya simpan lebih baik, serta memperkuat kemandirian ekonomi masyarakat pesisir secara berkelanjutan. Implementasi program ini juga membuka peluang pengembangan usaha rumah tangga berbasis sumber daya lokal, memperluas akses pemasaran produk olahan kelapa, meningkatkan ketahanan ekonomi masyarakat pesisir, serta menjadi model pemberdayaan masyarakat yang berkelanjutan bagi wilayah kepulauan lain dengan karakteristik sosial ekonomi serupa di Indonesia.

Abstract

Studies on the population and species composition of fruit flies on bird's eye chili plants are still needed to support more effective control efforts. This study aimed to examine the population abundance and species diversity of fruit flies (Bactrocera spp.) associated with bird's eye chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) and to identify the most effective trapping method at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Observations were conducted over eight weeks using various trapping methods, with parameters including species diversity, species dominance, and species evenness. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA followed by DMRT at the 5% significance level. The study successfully collected 6,689 fruit fly individuals representing three species: Bactrocera dorsalis, B. carambolae, and B. umbrosa. B. dorsalis was the most abundant species, accounting for 4,474 individuals (67%) across all trapping methods, followed by B. carambolae (1,607 individuals) and B. umbrosa (608 individuals). Analysis of variance and DMRT (5%) revealed significant differences among trap types: the Yellow Sticky Trap yielded the highest catch, with an average of 206 individuals per week, compared to the Methyl Eugenol Trap (70 individuals per week) and the sweep net (2 individuals per week). These results indicate that the Yellow Sticky Trap has the potential to serve as a key component in environmentally friendly fruit fly monitoring and control strategies for bird's eye chili cultivation. Consequently, the use of Yellow Sticky Traps could be a valuable component of eco-friendly fruit fly management strategies in horticultural cultivation systems.
