Abstract

Perawat dan bidan dituntut untuk dapat memberikan asuhan keperawatan pada pasien sesuai dengan evidence-based practice. Akan tetapi, pelaksanaan evidence-based practice hingga saat ini belum merata di seluruh pelayanan kesehatan. Salah satu masalahnya adalah perawat dan bidan kurang terpapar dengan konsep evidence-based practice. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pelatihan evidence-based practice terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan perawat dan bidan tentang konsep evidence-based practice.                Rancangan penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimental pendekatan pretest-posttest design. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 14 perawat dan bidan sebagai responden penelitian. Pengetahuan responden diukur dengan cara mengisi kuesioner yang berisi tentang konsep evidence-based practice, sebelum dan setelah pelatihan. Setelah dilakukan uji normalitas data yang menunjukkan bahwa data sebelum pelatihan berdistribusi normal sementara data setelah pelatihan tidak berdistribusi normal, maka dilakukan uji perbedaan data sebelum dan setelah pelatihan menggunakan uji Wilcoxon.                Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh pelatihan penerapan evidence-based practice terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan perawat dan bidan tentang konsep evidence-based practice secara signifikan (p=0,000). Pengetahuan yang didapat pada penelitian ini didukung oleh karakteristik perawat dan bidan yang meliputi riwayat pendidikan dan usia. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, maka diperlukan pelatihan-pelatihan yang efektif dan efisien untuk memaparkan penerapan evidence-based practice secara berkesinambungan.

Abstract

Professional nurses could be prepared through professional nursing programs. Professional nursing program is part of the nursing education program. One of the competencies required to be professional nurses is implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) to explore the best nursing interventions for patients to get optimal outcome. Nursing students have learned EBP during bachelor degree by analysis case using the EBP method. However, evaluation related  students' understanding of the method and its application of EBP to the clinical practice was none. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledge with student competency in the implementation of evidence based practice (EBP) to managed patients in the medical surgical nursing stage. This research is quantitative research. The sample in this study was 120 nursing students who were at professional nursing program that were recruited using total sampling technique. The instrument used is the Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) questionnaire. The results showed that more than half of the respondents had high knowledge (68%), and high competence (49%). This study shows a meaningful relationship between knowledge of student competence in applying EBP (r = .6070, p <0.01). The findings of this study are important for recommendations related to developing teaching materials in nursing education related to for providing the best service for patients.

Abstract

ABSTRACTWest Java province is the most contributors of women trafficking cases in Indonesia. Women trafficking threaten women in all age group, including young women. However, little is known young women’s perspectives of women trafficking especially in West Java region. The aim of this study was to determine young women’s perspectives of the impact of trafficking, and their actions to prevent it. This was a descriptive quantitative study. This study involved 361 young women ages 15-17 who chosen using the stratified random sampling technique. Respondents filled up questionnaire. Data were analysed using distribution of frequency. The study revealed that 65% of young women perceived that trafficking had negative impact to their health, and 71 % of them were also of the view that individual prevention was necessary. However, only 30 % of them perceived the importance of social support actions to prevent women trafficking. This study conclude that young women had different perceptions about impact of trafficking and actions to prevent it.  There is a need of effective strategies to improve social support for preventing women’s trafficking. Enhancing women’s awareness, perceptions, and knowledge of human trafficking especially in West Java is also necessary.

Abstract

Providing breast milk for a newborn is one method to reduce baby morbidity and mortality. "Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI)" is a program to support the practice of breastfeeding newborns in hospitals, one of them is by rooming in care, however not all hospitals do rooming-in care, including in Indonesia,  and information about the effectiveness of rooming into successful breastfeeding is limited. This literature review was conducted to identify the effectiveness of rooming-in to encourage successful breastfeeding. The databases were CINAHL, and PubMed with keywords: breastfeeding, post-partum, baby, and rooming-in. There were eight articles that appropriate with the inclusion criteria. The results found that four of the six articles showed the effect a rooming-in on success breastfeeding, but two articles showed that there was no rooming-in effect on breastfeeding. Factors that influence the results of these studies include respondent demographic characteristics, health workers, family factor, and respondent's self-efficacy. Further research is needed specifically to examine the effectiveness of baby friendly hospital programs in Indonesia to breastfeeding management and to explore deeply about breastfeeding failure in rooming-in services.Keywords: Baby, breastfeeding, mother, rooming-in, post-partum.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the incidence of anemia in adolescent, especially in developing countries, remained high, including in young women in the West Java provinces. An alternative way to deal with anemia in adolescents is by fulfilling their daily nutrition, especially during menstruation. This study aimed to determine the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students related to the sources of iron supplement in Faculty of Nursing Universitas Padjdjaran.  This study applied the descriptive quantitative approach. Samples were chosen using the purposive sampling method, and 197 students from three different years involved in this study. The respondents filled in the Gutman instrument to assess their knowledge and attitude. Results showed that 23.85% of respondent had a low understanding of iron supplement sources, 41,62% in the moderate level of understanding, and 34.51% of respondents had a high level of knowledge. In regard to respondents’ attitude, the majority of respondent had a good attitude (52,79%) and (47,20%) of them had the low attitude. This study informed that there was a group of student who risks of Iron deficiency anemia. It was because of unregular consumption of Iron tablet and their habit related to caffeine consumption that may be affected by iron’s absorption in their body. There is a need for a monitoring and implementation program to evaluate adolescents' intake including folic acid, iron supplement, and vitamin to improve hemoglobin levels.Keywords: Anemia, Attitude, Iron Deficiency, Knowledge

Abstract

Menarche is the first experience of menstruation would cause anxiety among teenagers, fear, discomfort, and affect the quality of life of teenage. This condition was caused by the taboo assumption to discuss menstruation with family and their environment. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify urban teenagers' readiness toward menarche. This study was conducted with the process of searching, collecting and analyzing articles. The search sources used were Cinahl, Scopus, Cochrane, Pubmed, and Cengage databases. The keywords used were menarche, readiness, and urban teenagers. The inclusion criteria used were 2013 - 2018 research articles, full text, and English articles. The exclusion criteria used was non-urban teenagers. According to the keyword was found 124 articles. After being selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 7 articles were analyzed. The result showed urban teenagers' readiness consisted of internal and external readiness. Internal readiness consists of age and knowledge. Internal readiness can affect self-acceptance, maturity of mind, and views on the stages of growth and development that are being faced. External readiness consists of social support. Social support for urban teenagers is useful to get information and attention when menarche. External readiness for urban teenagers was already good but lack of internal readiness. Therefore, counseling and health education related to menarche was needed starting from elementary school.Keywords: Menarche, readiness, urban teenager.

Abstract

Cultural practices are still very strong in Indonesia, but sometimes they are contrary to health. So that often these cultural practices cause pain and even death. Abstinence to eat in Sundanese society is a cultural practice. The purpose of this study was to determine the practice of eating in mothers of postpartum in Sundanese culture. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive. The sample in this study was 25 mothers of postpartum with criteria of Sundanese husband and wife and the mother was still in puerperium for up to 40 days. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire about food culture practices, the data were analyzed by the presentation. The results showed that 22 (88%) of postpartum women abstain of eating. Types of restrictions that eating eggs, fish, meat, natural water, fruits, eating soup and eating a lot. There is still abstinence from eating in the postpartum women which can cause late recovery of health in the mother of postpartum, it is expected that the health center provides counseling about the nutritional needs of mothers of postpartum and discusses each type of food that is abstinence food in the community.Keywords: Sundanese Culture, postpartum, practice.

Abstract

Early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) is a program recommended by the government in increasing the breastfeeding success, achieving exclusive breastfeeding and reducing the infant mortality rates. The IMD is a process of mothers initiates breastfeeding within one hour after delivery of their baby. During an hour, the baby looks for his mother's nipples without help. This would be useful to increase the ability of the baby's sucking reflex. The IMD is implemented in the delivery room as part of the APN procedure, however limited study in Indonesia assessed the IMD procedure. This study is aimed to assess the implementation of IMD and the sucking reflect of newborns in a hospital in Bandung city. This design of the study was the quantitative descriptive approach. The samples were 30 newborns. The samples were chosen using the accidental sampling technique. There were two types of instruments which are an observation sheet to check the procedure of IMD, and an instrument to assess babies’ sucking reflex including rooting, sucking, and swallowing reflexes. The study findings described in a frequency distribution. This study found that 100% of deliveries were carried out IMD inappropriately, and 86.7% of babies' sucking reflects were not achieved. The study concluded that the implementation of IMD was not maximal, and would be affected babies had not succeeded in breastfeeding.  It is expected that the hospital would implement IMD as the standard of maternity services.Keywords: Early Breastfeeding Initiation, Reflect

Abstract

The postpartum period is a time after the placenta is born until 40 days later, during this period there is a process of returning the physical condition of the mother after conceiving and giving birth. In the process of returning this physical condition requires more attention because there is a possibility of upcoming problems such as bleeding, infection, breastfeeding disorders, vascular disorders, and psychological. There have been several efforts made to support the improvement of postpartum maternal health, both using professional care and through traditional treatments such as the use of herbs. The purpose of this study was to identify the benefits of herbal medicines and their effectiveness in improving mothers’ health in the puerperium. This study used a literature review approach through search in the Google Scholar, EBSCO, and Proquest databases with keywords: herbal, post-partum, and health promotion. In this study, 12 journals were obtained regarding the use of herbs used by women in the puerperium period to improve their health. Herbs used to improve maternal health include: purple sweet potato leaves, katuk leaves, turmeric, lempuyang, tamarind, green bean extract, black meeting, aloe vera, kalendula flowers, binahong leaves, rosella flowers, bitter orange, and lavender. The use of this herb serves to help repair reproductive organs to recover as before pregnancy.Keywords: Herbal, health promotion, postpartum.

Abstract

Early marriage encourages various problems for young women. The problems would be affecting their psychological conditions including depression. This study aimed to describe the depression in adolescent girls with early marriage in Babakan Ciparay District, Bandung City. This study was conducted using the descriptive explorative method, with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were selected using the total sampling technique, in which 76 young women aged 16-19 years involved in this study. This study used an instrument from the Indonesian version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) questionnaire with validity values at 0.361-0.773 and the value of Cronbach's alpha is 0.898, and several additional questions related to the problems experienced by girls who married early. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis techniques for quantitative data and content analysis for interview data. This study was held in the range of April - May 2019. The results showed that 68.4% of respondents were at a minimum level of depression or did not experience depression, 11.8% had mild depression, 10.5% had moderate depression and 9.2% had severe depression. It can be concluded that the young women did not experience depression, because most respondents married with own desires, lived separately from their parents-in-law and did not experience domestic violence. However, there were still some respondents who are depressed or have the potential to experience depression due to economic problem, problems with in-laws, problems with their husbands and problems related to family relationships. Therefore, there is a need for education about stress management and counseling program to improve the mental health of girls who married early.Keywords: adolescent girl, depression, early marriage
