Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is an important aspect of mathematics education that involves logical thinking, problem analysis, and drawing conclusions based on existing data. Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) connects mathematical concepts with real situations that train students' logical thinking so that reasoning skills tend to improve. Therefore, it is important to analyze the development of RME research on reasoning skills. This analysis presents a bibliometric analysis of the literature on RME-based learning to improve mathematical reasoning, using data from Google Scholar accessed through the Publish Or Perish software and analyzed with the help of VOSViewer software. Through keyword searches for "RME" and "Mathematical Reasoning", 167 relevant documents were analyzed based on performance analysis, citation metrics, co-words, and co- authorship networks. The analysis reveals that publications on RME-based learning to improve reasoning skills have increased recently, although from 2008 to 2016 it was less than 4 per year. Indonesia has made significant contributions to RME research, with many of its authors actively involved in this field. The analysis identifies recent trends in advancing reasoning skills, including exploring topics such as the use of technology, media integration, hybrid learning models, and various approaches in RME-based teaching. In addition, this analysis highlights the potential for further research on the use of student worksheets as a widely applied learning medium in RME-based education to improve mathematical reasoning.

Abstract

Purpose – Problem-solving is a key component in mathematics education, as emphasized by the NCTM. At SMAN 6 Kota Bengkulu, students’ performance in trigonometry remains low due to weak problem-solving skills and limited engagement. This study investigates the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, supported by mathematical literacy worksheets, on students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. Methodology – A quasi-experimental design was employed using the Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The population consisted of all 10th-grade students at SMAN 6 Bengkulu. Two classes were selected: Class XJ as the experimental group, taught using the PBL model with literacy-based worksheets, and Class XI as the control group, taught using a Cooperative Learning model. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test and analyzed using an independent t-test. Findings – Results showed a significant difference in performance, with tvalue = 3.713 > tcritical = 1.673, indicating that the experimental group outperformed the control group in problem-solving ability. Novelty – This study offers a novel integration of PBL with mathematical literacy worksheets—an underexplored instructional approach in secondary trigonometry education. By combining content-specific literacy materials with a problem-based pedagogy, the study addresses a gap in research focused on enhancing higher-order thinking in mathematics. Significance – The findings provide empirical support for incorporating literacy-based, student-centered strategies in mathematics instruction. The study has implications for curriculum design aimed at improving problem-solving performance in similar educational contexts.

Abstract

The mathematical literacy of Class VIII at SMP Negeri 19 Seluma is relatively low, as evidenced by the initial literacy test results. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the problem-based learning model with a flipped classroom on the mathematical literacy skills of Class VIII students at SMP Negeri 19 Seluma. This research is a quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent posttest-only control group design. The population of this study consists of all Class VIII students at SMP Negeri 19 Seluma for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research sample includes Classes VIII A and VIII B, selected using the purposive sampling technique, with the sample consisting of all students in these two classes. The instrument used was a mathematical literacy test sheet with descriptive questions. The results indicate that the average posttest scores of the experimental group were above the completion criteria, while the control group's posttest scores were below the completion criteria. The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant value less than the alpha level (α), or z_count>z_table, leading to the conclusion that there is a significant effect of the problem-based learning model with a flipped classroom on the mathematical literacy skills of Class VIII students at SMP Negeri 19 Seluma.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematics teaching module based on the APOS (Action, Process, Object, Schema) model integrated with GeoGebra, focusing on the topic of quadratic functions for tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Muara Beliti. The research employed the Plomp development model, which consists of five phases: preliminary investigation, design, construction, validation, and limited testing. The module was developed under the cognitive stages of the APOS model: action, process, object, and schema, and was enhanced through visual exploration using GeoGebra. The research subjects consisted of tenth-grade students and a mathematics teacher at SMAN 1 Muara Beliti, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through documentation, expert validation sheets, and practicality questionnaires completed by the teacher and students. The findings indicate that the developed module is highly needed by students and significantly addresses their difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts. Expert validation yielded an average score of 87.85%, classified as highly valid. Practicality testing produced scores of 92.50% from the teacher and 90.41% from the students, both categorized as highly practical. Thus, the module facilitates interactive, conceptual, and contextual learning aligned with the principles of the Independent Curriculum. Accordingly, it is deemed a feasible and innovative instructional resource for high school mathematics learning.
