Abstract

Siomay is a product made from fish made by steaming. However, dumpling have a relatively short shelf life at room temperature. This is because siomay has a high water content and water activity (aw). The need for natural preservatives is safe to consume to increase the shelf life of the dumplings. The technology used is liquid smoke. Volatile compounds in liquid smoke that play a role in bioreservative activity can evaporate during storage. So that technology development is needed to protect the active component by turning it into liquid smoke flour. Liquid smoke flour also has a higher phenol component compared to liquid smoke. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal maltodextrin concentration and storage time in making nano-particles on siomay quality. The results of this study indicate that the content of liquid smoke is eliminated maltodectrin has titrated total acid from liquid smoke flour concentrated at 20%, 30%, 40% and liquid smoke is 1.024%; 0.832%; 0.896%; 2.495%. Water content of liquid smoke flour concentration of 20%, 30% and 40% is 9.436%; 7.186%; 8,333%.The optimum acidity level of siomay for maltodectrin concentration is 20%, 30%, 40% is 0.820%; 0.882%; 1.013% and optimum protein content in siomay from maltodectrin concentration of 20%, 30%, 40% is 3.95%; 3.98%;4.20%

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of the scanning technique in improving reading comprehension of recount texts among eighth-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nurul Hasanah Pengawu. The primary objective was to determine whether the scanning technique enhanced students' ability to comprehend recount texts. A quantitative approach was adopted, utilizing a quasi-experimental design. The research involved 35 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria, with class VIIIB assigned as the experimental group and class VIIIA as the control group. Before the intervention, students struggled with understanding recount texts. However, after the experimental group received treatment using the scanning technique, their performance improved significantly, as evidenced by an increase in their average scores from 45.33 in the pre-test to 76.94 in the post-test. These findings indicated that the scanning technique was an effective method for enhancing reading comprehension of recount texts in this context.

Abstract

Politeknik Caltex Riau (PCR) is one of the private vocational colleges in Pekanbaru City, Riau, which was established in 2001. Every year PCR holds certification for prospective graduates, where this certification is mandatory for prospective graduates as a graduation requirement. To facilitate prospective graduates, PCR has a Professional Certification Institute (LSP). This certification is used to ensure that graduates have competencies in accordance with their field of expertise before entering the workforce. PCR already has an LSP-P1 system. LSP P1 is a 1st party professional certification institution formed by educational institutions. The existing system is only at the registration stage, while other administrative files are collected in paper / hard file form. The impact is that some files are lost, and it takes a long time to process the data. The resulting solution is to design the Front End of the LSP System including the registration section, assessment process, determination of results, appeals against certification decisions and complaints. The design uses the Design Thinking method on the Front-End side. Based on the test results using UEQ, which reached an excellent scale (percentage above 2% with a range of -1 to 2.5%) in terms of Attractiveness, Clarity, Efficiency, and Novelty of system design.

Abstract

The waste bank is one of the containers that can solve the problems that people are experiencing. Garbage bank is a program by utilizing inorganic waste in order to get benefits and added value. Citizens' awareness and skills for managing or recycling waste by applying the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle are important in solving waste problems through waste management from the source. The waste bank which is integrated with the 3R principle is implemented in the Rajawali Village, Jogosari Village, Pasuruan, East Java. The waste bank activity is a concept of collecting dry waste that has been sorted and has a feasibility that can improve the community's economy. In this case, the sorted inorganic waste is put into the warehouse in the waste bank, which can be used to be recycled into crafts such as flower pots from cup pop noodles, flower pots from mineral drinking water bottles and cup pop noodle caps as spots. foto., therefore it is necessary to empower youth in the Rajawali area through outreach activities to residents and youth in Rajawali. In addition, the need for cooperation with the RPL to realize progress in the Jogosari village. This garbage bank in the Jogosari sub-district has provided benefits to residents, especially direct benefits by reducing waste piles, making the environment clean and beautiful as well as residents' independence and creating inorganic waste processing skills. Integrated waste management can stimulate creativity and innovation from the community so as to improve the welfare of citizens.

Abstract

The construction of homosexual identity in film is shaped through the representation of values, rituals, heroes, and symbols. Values are constructed through the deconstruction of dominant worldviews that regard homosexual identity as deviant, while rituals are portrayed to normalize such behavior within the film’s narrative. Heroes and symbols serve as visual and narrative representations that reinforce identity and demonstrate the equality of homosexual individuals with heterosexual groups This study aims to critically analyze the meaning of affection and love as advocated by homosexual groups in the film Monster (2023). The research method employed is qualitative with a textual analysis of mass media. Data analysis uses Roland Barthes' semiotics, consisting of denotation, connotation, and myth. Barthes' semiotics is then integrated with Hofstede’s cultural theory, which includes values, rituals, heroes, and symbols. The findings conclude that Monster (2023) represents the struggle of gay individuals to express affection and love through subtle yet meaningful symbolic signs such as gazes, caresses, embraces, and flowers. On the levels of connotation and myth, the film challenges heteronormative norms by asserting that love and happiness are universal rights not limited to heterosexual relationships. Through the value of “our future,” youth social rituals, heroic figures, and queer identity symbols, the film constructs a narrative of acceptance toward same-sex relationships.

Abstract

This study examines how Attitude, as part of the Appraisal framework proposed by Martin and White (2005), is realized in Taylor Swift’s 2022 commencement speech at New York University. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, this research explores how the speaker uses evaluative language to construct interpersonal meaning and engage the audience. The focus is on the three sub-types of Attitude that are Affect, Judgment, and Appreciation, which correspond to expressions of emotion, evaluations of behavior, and assessments of phenomena, respectively. A total of 266 clauses from the speech were analyzed, with 172 identified as containing Attitude expressions. The findings show that positive Attitude overwhelmingly dominates the speech, especially through Affect, reflecting Swift’s strategy to foster empathy, motivation, and solidarity. Judgment is often used to present personal growth and moral insight, while Appreciation is employed to frame life experiences as meaningful. This study contributes to discourse analysis by highlighting how a non-traditional speaker like Taylor Swift constructs educational meaning through personal storytelling. It also demonstrates how celebrity speeches can fulfill the interpersonal and inspirational goals of academic ceremonies, offering a valuable case for Appraisal-based analysis in popular and educational discourse.

Abstract

The academic success of scholarship recipients is not only determined by their academic abilities but also by various non-academic factors that are often difficult to measure objectively. The large number of interrelated indicators presents a challenge in identifying the most dominant factors, especially when these variables exhibit high correlations and lead to data redundancy. This study aims to identify the dominant non-academic factors influencing the academic success of scholarship recipients using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A total of 262 students completed a questionnaire consisting of 54 non-academic items that had previously undergone validity and reliability testing. PCA was employed to reduce data dimensionality and produced 38 principal components with a cumulative explained variance of 95.08%, indicating effective dimensionality reduction without significant loss of information. The loading matrix analysis revealed that psychological conditions, learning methods, major suitability, learning motivation, and financial conditions were the most dominant contributors to the principal components. These findings provide a more structured understanding of the non-academic factors that should be considered in the development and monitoring of scholarship programs.
