Abstract

The increasing number of Covid 19 sufferers makes us have to make solution steps to avoid Covid 19. The elderly are a vulnerable group to contracting this virus. There are degenerative diseases that appear in the elderly, such as diabetes and hypertension, which will worsen the condition of the elderly. The application of 3M (washing hands, wearing masks, and drinking herbal medicine) can improve the health and immunity of the elderly. This community service activity carried in three stages: the preparation stage (coordinating with partners), the implementation stage (conducting education on proper handwashing, wearing masks, conducting herbal medicine training), and the evaluation stage. This community service activity was held at the MK 2 posyandu, Tamanan sub-district, Kediri City. This activity is the distribution of hands-on aid, masks, and herbal medicine, and an increase in public knowledge about 3M. The application of washing hands, wearing masks, and drinking herbal medicine can be a solution to prevent transmission of Covid 19 to the elderly.

Abstract

The elderly are vulnerable individuals, so their health needs to be improved. Knowledge of the elderly about maintaining health also needs to be improved. One way to improve the health of the elderly is through elderly exercise. The purpose of this implementation is to increase the knowledge of elderly about elderly exercise. The implementation method is divided into three stages. The first stage is to make preparations (coordination with partners, for example, caregivers), the next stage is to carry out activities (implementing counseling and simulation of elderly exercise), and the last stage is evaluation. The implementation was carried out in RW 6 Balowerti on 2-7 June 2021. This implementation was followed by 38 elderly. Based on the results, pretest were obtained almost half (47.4%) of the elderly had less knowledge levels, in the posttest it was found that most (57.9%) of the elderly had a good level of knowledge. From the results of the test, it can be concluded that there is an influence of health education and simulation of elderly exercise on the level of knowledge of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Communication failure during handover is the main cause of the patient's injury and is the root cause of 65% of the sentinel incident. Bad handover is assumed to have correlation with clinical diagnosis inaccuracies, delay in diagnosis, delay in laboratory tests, treatment errors, inconsistent or misinterpretation of results, duplication of tests, increase in complications of the Hospital.Purpose: This study aimed to determine the factors related to the quality of the patient's handover in inpatient room of the hospital. Methods: This research used a correlational analysis study with a cross sectional approach. Data retrieval use questionnaires and observation sheets. The number of samples on this study is 79 nurses taken in random sampling techniques. Statistical analysis used is a test of spearman rank. Results: The result of this research revealed that most of the respondents (69.6%) are diploma graduates, and 72.2% of respondents have a working time of < 5 years. Almost all respondents (93.7%) have good motivation, and 94.9% of respondents have good handover quality. The last educational variable (p = 0.388) and the nurse’s working time (P = 0.209) are not related to the quality of the handover, while the motivation (P = 0.000) and the implementation of the chief nurse’s supervision (P = 0.000) relate to the quality of the handover between the shifts in the inpatient room of the hospital. Conclusion of this study is the motivation and the implementation of the chief nurse’s supervision relate to the quality of the handover between the shifts in the inpatient room of the hospital. Hospital’s management is expected to raise the motivation of nurses in conducting handover and enhancing the supervision of the chief nurse to improve the quality of the patient's handover and minimize the errors in information exchange conducted by nurses

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diabetic gangrene is a severe complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) that often leads to amputation. DM increases susceptibility to infection by impairing leukocyte function. Although hyperglycemia is known to weaken innate immunity, its association with leukocyte count remains unclear, particularly in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings. This study aimed to assess the association between admission blood glucose levels and leukocyte counts in patients with diabetic gangrene. Methods: This study utilized a retrospective cross-sectional design and was prepared in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. Secondary data were extracted from the medical records and laboratory reports of patients hospitalized at Kertosono Regional General Hospital in East Java, Indonesia, from January to December 2022. A purposive total sampling approach was applied. Inclusion criteria required an inpatient diagnosis of diabetes mellitus with diabetic gangrene, alongside the availability of both random blood glucose and total leukocyte count results for the same admission. Exclusion criteria eliminated records with missing or illegible key laboratory values, duplicate records, and records lacking diagnostic confirmation in the discharge summary. The independent variable assessed was admission random blood glucose (mg/dL), and the dependent variable was the total leukocyte count (cells/µL). Results: From an initial pool of 50 records, a final sample of 38 medical records was selected for analysis. Spearman’s rank correlation indicated that there was no significant association between random blood glucose levels and total leukocyte counts (r = -0.031; p = 0.853). Conclusion: Admission blood glucose does not meaningfully track or correlate with total leukocyte count in patients presenting with diabetic gangrene. Clinically, this suggests that leukocyte count should not be used as a proxy or surrogate for acute glycemic status. Therefore, comprehensive infection severity assessments in these patients require integrating clinical evaluation with additional, more specific inflammatory indices.

Abstract

Regular physical exercise is crucial for healthy aging, yet many elderly face psychological barriers that prevent consistent participation. This study analyzed self-control and resilience as psychological predictors of regular physical exercise in the elderly, used a quantitative correlational design. Sixty respondents aged 60-70 years with simple random sampling. Data were collected used Brief Self-Control Scale and CD-RISC-10 for resilience instruments, while the level of participation in regular physical exercise was measured based on attendance to the physical exercise four times a week. The data were then analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant correlation between self-control (r=0.721, p-value 0.002), resilience (r=0.618, p-value 0.003). Regression analysis revelead that self-control (β = 0.55, p-value 0.000) and resilience (β = 0.51, p-value 0.002) significantly predicted exercise behavior, explaining 28% of the variance (R² = 0.28). These findings suggest that elderly with higher self-control and resilience are more likely to maintain a regular exercise. The results support the development of health promotion programs that incorporate psychological training to strengthen self-regulation and adaptability in the elderly. Future research should explore the other predictors of physical exercise in elderly. Strengthening psychological resources is a key strategy to well-being in elderly.
