Abstract

Zebrina pendula Schnizl., known for its medicinal properties against dysentery, contains chemical compounds like polyphenols, flavonoids, quinones, and terpenoids. Despite its potential, research on Zebrina pendula Schnizl. remains limited. This study aimed to assess the antimicrobial activity of Zebrina pendula Schnizl. extract against Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Bacillus subtilis, using the microdilution method. The stages of the study include determination, phytochemical screening of Zebrina pendula Schnizl., standardization, multilevel extraction using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 96% ethanol, and antimicrobial activity testing via microdilution method to determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentrations (MBC).

Abstract

One of the ways to increase profit in small and medium business (UKM) in Cimahi is by diversifying its products, through manufacturing of bar soap derived from cow's milk from UKM. The requirement of bath soap is proper acidity (pH) level, otherwise it will make the skin dry, itchy or even increase irritation. Therefore, this in vivo non-clinical irritation evaluation is conducted to evaluate the effects of bar soap produced by UKM in Cimahi according to the guidelines in rat test animals. The animals is divided into five groups and exposed to soap for four hours. Five soap samples is obtained from UKM in Cipageran area, Cimahi. Observations is made at the hours of 1, 4, 24, 48, and 72 hours after exposure and is continued for 14 days. The measured parameters is erythema and edema, and the primary irritation index. The results showed that bar soap containing cow milk produced by UKM in Cimahi did not cause erythema and edema. Primary irritation index of all bath soap samples was 0.0 . It can be concluded that soap bars containing cow's milk produced by Cimahi City UKM including into the category of very mild irritation (negligigle).

Abstract

Microbial on food are caused by various factors such as nutrients, water, and temperature. If total amount of microbes increase it would damage food and if it ingested could affect grastrointestinal track. Snack, especially unregistered snack such as syrup in school is one of important problem to concerned. The purpose of this study is to detect the present of Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella in syrup in four elementary schools in Cimahi. Detection of Staphylococcus aureus is done using BPA medium, while detection of Salmonella is using Indol test, methyl red test, Voges Proskauer test, Citrate test and Gram staining. The result shows that the syrup from the elementary school contains Staphylococcus aureus but not all of samples of syrup give positive result of Salmonella. Based on the requirements which in set in SNI that microbes in syrup should not be contain to Staphylococcus aureus is negative/ml and Salmonella is negative/25 ml, then syrup that sold in all four elementary schooldi not qualified.

Abstract

The soil is one of the habitats for microorganisms, in one gram soil there are millions of microorganism. Population microorganism per gram the rich soil of covering bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, algae and protozoa. Garden having the potential to do exploration of isolation microorganisms. This is because land contains many organic compounds and minerals that is one ecosystem fertile to life and growth microorganisms. Whenever a microorganisms have proven produce substance antimicrobe so organisms of its potential as producer antibiotics. Material research the land, taken from the soil Faculty of Pharmacy Plant Garden of UNJANI, we did dilution and cultivated in a media potato dextrose broth. The isolate from medium broth was cultivating in a media potato dextrose agar, to obtained isolates single. Isolates obtained seen features macroscopic and microscopic. The results obtained isolates isolation two of the four isolates that can give inhibition to Escherichia coli but does not inhibition to Staphylococcus aureus. Keywords: isolation, microbe, soil

Abstract

Grape seeds contain 75% unsaturated fats namely linoleic acid and vitamin E which contributes to its resistance to oxidation and is often chosen for use in the cosmetic, culinary, pharmaceutical, and health fields. The purpose of this study is to determine the activity of grape seed oil (Vitis vinifera L.) in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria in cream preparations. The research was carried out through several stages, namely organoleptic examination of grape seed oil, making grape seed oil cream formula and its evaluation, testing antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method. Anti-acne cream preparations containing grape seed oil are made in 4 formulas, namely F0 (without grape seed oil), F1 (24%), F2 (30%), F3 (36%). All formulations during storage do not change shape, smell, and colour and homogeneity whereas pH and viscosity change during storage. The formulation of grape seed oil cream forms a stable cream from the results of freeze and thaw, showing no changes in globule size with globules <50μm. Based on the results of the antibacterial activity test, the best formula is F3, its provides the greatest inhibition against the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Grape seed oil in cream preparations can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Abstract

Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen responsible for systemic infections that result in considerable morbidity and mortality. The enzyme Exo-1,3 β-glucanase is essential for cell wall metabolism and pathogenicity in C. albicans, rendering it a potential therapeutic target. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of bioactive compounds from black mangroves (Rhizophora mucronata L.) as inhibitors of Exo-1,3 β-glucanase using an in silico approach. The test results from 28 black mangrove plant compounds yielded a the free energy value (ΔG) with a the inhibition constant (KI) comparable to that of ibrexafungerp. The four compounds exhibited the following properties: β-amyrin (ΔG) = -8.24 kcal/mol with KI = 908.46 nM, lupeol = -8.19 kcal/mol with KI = 994.44 nM, ethyl-iso allocholate = -7.66 kcal/mol with KI = 2.44 μM, and magnolol = -7.2 kcal/mol with KI = 5.25 μM. The molecular docking test results were evaluated from multiple perspectives, specifically the ΔG value generated post-docking, the KI, and the interactions of amino acid bonds and residues with the receptor. The ADMET prediction test results indicate that the four molecular docking test chemicals exhibit commendable skin penetrating capabilities. Based on the results of the tests, the four compounds, namely Ethyl-isoallocholate, β-amyrin, Magnolol, and Lupeol with β-amyrin, have the potential to become new drug candidates as Exo 1-3-(-glucanase inhibitors) in Candida albicans
