Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common complaint during menstruation, especially in adolescent girls which can interfere with their daily activities, especially at school. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and age of menarche with dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. This research was quantitative research using a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out in January-February 2021. The research population was class IX students of SMP Negeri 17 Makassar with a total sample of 50 people. Sampling was carried out using the purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria aged 12-15 years, already menstruating, and willing to become research subjects by signing informed consent. This study consisted of independent variables, which were nutritional status and age of menarche, and the dependent variable which was dysmenorrhea. The data was obtained directly by using a questionnaire to determine the age of menarche and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls, then using a height measuring device and weight scales to determine the nutritional status of adolescent girls based on the calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI). The data were analyzed using the chi-square test with SPSS. The results showed that based on the chi-square statistical test, there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of dysmenorrhea with p value=0,005, while for age at menarche there was no significant relationship between age at menarche and the incidence of dysmenorrhea with p value=0.440. This showed that nutritional status was related to the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls, which indicated that it was important to maintain normal nutritional status to avoid the incidence of dysmenorrhea, especially in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Nutritional intake in toddlers, especially protein, is important because of protein functions as a building nutrient. Toddlers with inadequate protein intake are more at risk of stunting. Education about animal protein-rich in complementary foods for mothers of toddlers is needed to increase the intake of animal protein in toddlers, which can be delivered through an educational media such as banner. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of banner as educational media to increase mothers' knowledge about animal protein-rich in complementary food for stunting prevention. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a one group pre test-post test design on mothers of toddlers in the work area of the Tamalanrea Health Center, Makassar. A sample of 44 mothers was selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria, which were mothers with toddlers and willing to participate in this study. The instruments were banner as educational media and questionnaire to assess knowledge before and after the educational intervention. Education was conducted initially through a counseling session using the banner, which was then displayed at the Tamalanrea Health Center as an educational tool. Data were processed and analyzed using SPSS with a paired t-test. The results showed a significant increase in mothers’ knowledge about animal protein-rich in complementary food with the average score rising from 46,6 to 80,7 with a p-value of 0.001. The educational media banner has proven effective in increasing the knowledge of mothers’ about animal protein-rich in complementary food for stunting prevention. The use of similar educational media is expected to be implemented in various health facilities as a promotive and preventive effort in overcoming stunting in Indonesia.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood which is marked by many changes. Adolescents generally have a sedentary lifestyle which causes an increase in body mass index. An increase in body mass index has a negative impact on postural balance and flexibility. Excessive fat in the body tends to change the location of the body's center of gravity and limit joint movement. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index and postural balance and flexibility in adolescent girls. This research was a correlation study and used a cross sectional research design with a total of 35 young women. The parameters used to measure postural balance are the Y-balance test and flexibility is the sit-and-reach test. The data analysis used in this research is Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between body mass index and postural balance (p=0.001) and flexibility (p=0.001) and the level of closeness of the relationship between each variable was very strong (r=0.825). The higher the BMI, the lower the postural balance and flexibility.

Abstract

Bukit Merdeka Village has great potential for the development of pineapple commodities; however, the utilization of pineapple peel waste remains suboptimal and is often regarded as mere waste. The management of food waste has become a critical issue due to its negative impact on health and the environment, where food waste is often discarded without further utilization. The objective of this community service activity is to educate the public about the dangers and potential benefits of food waste, with the hope of reducing waste, increasing economic welfare through innovation, and encouraging the people of Bukit Merdeka Village to better understand and optimize the use of food waste creatively and productively. This activity was conducted through lectures and interactive discussions involving all members of the PKK in Bukit Merdeka Village. Participants were also asked to take pre-tests and post-tests to measure their understanding before and after the education. There was a significant increase in the post-test results compared to the pre-test, with the average score of participants rising from 56.0 ± 3.2 to 84.6 ± 1.7. These results indicate that the education provided successfully improved participants' understanding of the dangers of food waste and how to utilize it. This educational activity successfully raised awareness and improved community skills in managing food waste, as well as opened economic opportunities through the utilization of pineapple peel waste.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of tempe drink intervention on lipid profile of hypercholesterolemic subjects. This study used a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design with 51 males and females subjects with the inclusion criterias were adults aged 25-55 years, not being menopause and pregnant, total cholesterol levels ≥200 mg/dl and signed informed consent. The subjects were divided into three treatments - Tempe Drink of A (TDA) formulated from local sprouted soybean, Tempe Drink of B (TDB) formulated from imported soybean and control. The tempe drink was given three glasses a day for four weeks, contained at least 25 g of protein/day. The control treatment was not given the tempe drink. Lipid profile (total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides (TG)) was collected before and after  intervention. The results showed that both TDA and TDB decreased total cholesterol, LDL, and TG of subjects, respectively 26.7 mg/dl and 17.3 mg/dl; 3.6 mg/dl and 1.0 mg/dl; and 16.2 mg/dl and 3.7 mg/dl compared to control subjects, but did not increase HDL of subjects. This implies that tempe drink had beneficial health effect on lowering total cholesterol, LDL and TG.
