Abstract

Introduction: One of the government hospitals in South Sulawesi is facing various challenges related to nurses' working conditions, such as work stress. Preliminary data show that high work pressure, the nursing shift system, and the ratio of nurses to patients contribute to this condition and are predicted as risk factors that can affect the quality of work life for nurses. Methods: This study aim is to examine how organizational and job-related factors affect hospital nurses' work stress at regional hospital. Using a cross-sectional methodology, this study included 167 nurses out of 287 who were chosen by accident sampling. Questionnaires, observations, and interviews were used to gather data, which were then subjected to linear regression analysis (95% CI; α=0.05). Results: The results of this study indicate that work stress is significantly influenced by the job factor (p=0.000; β=0.415) and organizational factor (p=0.011; β= -0.229). Emotional demands are the most influential component of job factors on the emergence of stress. Conclusion: High job demands, especially emotional burden, significantly increase nurses' work stress, whereas good organizational support can reduce it. These findings indicate the importance of reducing emotional burden and increasing institutional support through mental resilience training, structured debriefing sessions, peer support systems, and psychological counseling services. The results of this study can also be used as a basis for policy making by hospital leaders to be more supportive of nurses' mental well-being and the sustainability of health service quality.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a highly prevalent disease among individuals. The bacteria may enter the human body with inhaled air, after which they will be taken into the lungs, and then might disseminate from the lungs into the other parts of the body via the circulatory system, lymphatic system, respiratory tract-bronchi, or by direct passage to other areas. The most affected organs with tuberculosis are the lungs, but it may also affect other organs, including the meninges, bones, superficial glands, and other organs. They include: India, 26%; Indonesia, 8.5%; China, 8.4%; the Philippines, 6%; Pakistan, 5.7%; Nigeria, 4.4%; Bangladesh, 3.6%; and South Africa, 3.6%. These eight countries account for two-thirds of the global cases put together. 8.2% of tuberculosis cases are co-infected with HIV. Targeted by the national tuberculosis control program is the elimination of tuberculosis by 2035 and attainment of a tuberculosis-free status by 2050. Methods: This study is based on a review of general clinical practice guidelines, research publications, websites, and textbooks on pulmonary tuberculosis. Findings and Analysis: There are various research writings about the clinical presentations of the condition, confirmatory investigations for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the epidemiology of the patients, and risk conditions that predispose a patient to getting infected by the bacteria. Therapeutic interventions and pharmacological adverse effects. Conclusion Pulmonary tuberculosis is a communicable disease, and Indonesia still has a population that carries this infection. Thus, prevention of the disease should be done by every single individual in society by understanding and knowing the character of the disease.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, remains a major public health problem. Treatment success depends heavily on adherence to anti-tuberculosis drug (ATD) therapy; however, the long treatment duration may reduce adherence and increase the risk of recurrence. Objective: This study aimed to describe the demographic characteristics of pulmonary TB patients and to analyze the association between adherence to ATD therapy and TB recurrence at Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, Medan. Methods: A quantitative observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 33 pulmonary TB patients treated at Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, Medan (November–December 2025). Data were collected using an ATD adherence questionnaire and complemented with medical record data. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize patient characteristics, adherence levels, and recurrence status, while the Chi-square test was applied to assess the association between adherence and recurrence (p < 0.05). Results: Most respondents exhibited low adherence to ATD therapy (66.7%), and a high proportion experienced TB recurrence (78.8%). The majority were male (51.5%), predominantly in the adult age group (41–60 years; 51.5%), had a senior high school education (87.9%), and were self-employed. A statistically significant association was found between adherence to ATD therapy and TB recurrence (p = 0.046). Implications: These findings reinforce the need to strengthen adherence-support strategies in hospital TB services, including structured counseling, active follow-up, and family or treatment supervisor involvement, to reduce recurrence risk and improve program outcomes. Originality/Value: This study provides facility-based evidence from Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, Medan, demonstrating a significant relationship between adherence level and recurrence status, offering locally relevant data to guide targeted adherence interventions and recurrence prevention in hospital settings.
