Abstract

The electric motorcycle ecosystem in Indonesia is expanding, yet 2025 sales stood at 55,059 units, down 28.6% from 77,078 units in 2024, and still accounted for less than one percent of national motorcycle sales, leaving vocational high schools (SMK) with automotive programmes short of practical media for this topic. SMK Negeri 3 Karawang faced three problems: teachers' understanding of electric motorcycle architecture was uneven, inspection practice still relied on conventional electrical habits that carry risk on battery-voltage systems, and the school lacked practical media for safe repeated training. This community service programme donated one electric motorcycle simulator trainer unit to the school and trained teachers to operate it through competency-based training held on 23 June 2026, comprising material exposure, demonstration, and hands-on practice, with occupational health and safety (K3) included as training content. Evaluation used a 15-item satisfaction questionnaire on a 1-to-4 scale and a 10-item multiple-choice knowledge test completed by five participating teachers. The mean questionnaire score was 3.80 out of 4.00, categorised as very good, with no item scoring below 3. The mean test score was 184 out of 200, ranging from 170 to 200. Of the 50 test responses analysed, 43 were correct; six items were answered correctly by all participants, while the item on battery specifications was answered correctly by only one participant. The main finding is a split in participant mastery by item type: all participants answered the procedural and occupational safety items correctly, whereas only one answered the battery specification item correctly, directing follow-up mentoring towards reading the technical specification sheet rather than towards operating procedures. The limited number of respondents means the results describe the five teachers who completed the instruments rather than all vocational teachers at the partner school.

Abstract

Automotive microenterprises often possess strong technical knowledge, but information about spare-part locations, customer complaints, diagnoses, actions, and recommendations may remain dependent on memory and oral communication. This community engagement program aimed to help Kembang Mulia Racing (KMR) translate such knowledge into visible and traceable managerial information as a foundation for gradual digitalization. Six KMR participants, including the owner, Mr. Zainal, took part in participatory diagnosis, co-design, socialization, training, and simulations using Fast-Moving Spare-Part Box Labels and the Kartu Jejak Kerja (KJK), or Work Trace Card. Evaluation was qualitative, drawing on observation, field notes, discussion, documentation, tool inspection, and participant responses. Initial results showed that the labels provided a shared item-location reference, while the KJK was understood as connecting complaints, diagnoses, material use, quality control, and follow-up. Both tools were found understandable, contextually relevant, and feasible for workplace trials. Consistent adoption and economic effects require follow-up evaluation.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of a peer teaching model assisted by trainer media to support students' practical competency in engine management system learning in vocational education. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design integrated with a mixed-methods approach. The research was conducted through two action cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Quantitative data were obtained from students' practical competency assessments and teacher performance observations, while qualitative data were collected through classroom observations, documentation, and reflection records. The quantitative data were analyzed descriptively by comparing competency achievement and teacher performance across the action cycles, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically with the assistance of NVivo. The results showed a substantial descriptive improvement in students' practical competency. The proportion of students achieving the Competent category increased from 51% in Cycle I to 86% in Cycle II, representing an increase of 35 percentage points and exceeding the predetermined success criterion of ?85%. Teacher performance also increased from 69 in Cycle I to 87 in Cycle II, representing an improvement of 18 points and exceeding the predetermined criterion of ?80%. The qualitative findings indicated that the learning process was characterized by increased peer interaction, practical engagement with trainer media, teacher facilitation, and reflective improvement across the action cycles. The findings suggest that the integration of peer teaching, trainer-supported practical learning, and reflective teacher facilitation provides a coherent pedagogical approach for competency-oriented vocational learning. However, because individual-level data were unavailable for inferential analysis and the study did not employ a comparison group, the findings should be interpreted as context-specific evidence of instructional improvement rather than definitive evidence of causal effectiveness

Abstract

Vocational training for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) conventionally relies on real-time verbal instruction, presenting a critical communication barrier for sensory-impaired trainees. The mandatory use of welding helmets obstructs essential visual cues, such as lip-reading and sign language, thereby preventing immediate corrective feedback on fundamental welding parameters. Consequently, technical errors are often only identified after the welding process is complete, which prolongs the learning curve and increases material waste. To address this pedagogical gap, this study aimed to develop a portable, low-cost SMAW simulator as an inclusive learning medium for trainees with sensory disabilities at Sentra Terpadu Inten Soewono and to evaluate its feasibility. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The resulting product is a sensor-based welding simulator that provides real-time visual feedback through LED indicators and a Python-based evaluation dashboard. The learning media was evaluated through expert validation and user testing. The expert validation achieved a feasibility score of 89% and 99%, while the user evaluation obtained 91.32%, both categorized as very feasible. The findings indicate that the simulator is suitable as a learning medium to help trainees practice fundamental SMAW welding competencies before performing actual welding using standard equipment.
