Abstract

Abstract

It is estimated that more than 150 million people in the world are infected by the filarial disease, especially among poor communities in tropic regions, including Indonesia. The cause of this lymphatic filariasis are Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Brugia timori. Wolbachia pipientis, an obligate intracellular bacterium, is an endosymbiont of the filarial parasite, have a very important role in the pathogenesis of lymphatic filariasis.  Inflammation is caused by the Wolbachia lipoprotein which are liberated after the death of adult parasite or microfilariae and exposed to the host immune system and is mediated by TLR2/6. Wolbachia only have  Ltg dan LspA genes for the lipoprotein biosynthesis, but do not possess the Lnt gene.  These findings confirm that Wolbachia lipoprotein is diacylated, so it is a match ligand with TLR2/6.  Inflammation caused by Wolbachia lipoprotein increased pro-inflammation cytokine. The pro-inflammation cytokine  will cause induction of  VEGF-A dan VEGF-C, contributing to the lymphedema and hydrocele pathogenesis in lymphatic filariasis.

Abstract

Dengue hemorhagic fever (DHF) is an infection caused by dengue virus. Dengue is a virus that is transmitted from Aedes Spp mosquito, the fastest growing mosquito in the world and has transmitted dengue virus. The prevalence of DHF until July 2020 has reached 71.633 in Indonesia, and 4.227 cases only in DKI Jakarta province. We usually don’t find new case on July, but this year we still find new cases on July. This should increase our vigilance, especially at this time when there is a pandemic of COVID-19 cases. The purpose of this activity is to increase public knowledge about dengue fever so that they can prevent dengue fever in their area. This activity is carried out through seminar using the zoom application because conditions in the field do not allow offline activities to be held. The activity will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The results obtained through this PKM activity is an increase in the level of participants' knowledge about DHF as evidenced by an increase in post-test scores after attending the seminar. The conclusion of this PKM activity went well because of the support from all related parties from institutions, solid teams, and partners who actively participated. The shortage of this PKM activity is that the activities are carried out online because the conditions are still not conducive to do an offline activity. The advice we can give is to carry out PKM activities again with the same partner with different health topics according to the conditions that exist in the partners.

Abstract

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) remain a public health problem in 149 tropical and subtropical countries, including Indonesia. NTDs are closely related to poverty and low levels of hygiene and sanitation. In Indonesia alone, there are more than 5 types of neglected tropical diseases, one of which is leprosy. Leprosy, also known as Morbus Hansen, caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, is a disease with a long history. Leprosy can be found in several scriptures and has been known since the time of Ancient Egypt around 2000 years BC. This disease is often considered a curse on the sufferer and until now this stigma continues to stick to the sufferer. Stigmatization and social discrimination in leprosy patients make leprosy sufferers isolated from the surrounding community so that the outreach process by health workers becomes difficult. Guidance for leprosy patients in the form of counseling was carried out before the pandemic through self-care groups for leprosy sufferers, and evaluations were carried out after the pandemic to assess improvements in literacy levels and understanding of the group members. The result of this community is an increase in literacy about the adoption of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) among the members of self-care groups in first-level of health facilities.

Abstract

Tetanus is a serious disease caused by spores of the bacterium Clostridium tetani. Tetanus infection has no boundaries as people of all ages can be infected and it is still a public health problem today, especially for pregnant women and newborns. Neonatal tetanus (TN) is the tetanus infection in infants aged 3 – 28 days after birth and maternal tetanus (MT) is the infection that occurs during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after delivery. Tetanus infection generally occurs if the delivery is not carried out in health facilities with adequate equipment and is known as one of the most common causes of death during childbirth. The aim of this Community Service activity was to provide counseling about the importance of Tetanus Toxoid (TT) T immunization for prospective brides and WUS who came to the mother and children out-patient clinic at the Primary Health Care. Cadres those bearing an important role in expanding health information for the community were also involved in this program. This Community Service activity held counseling for the prospective bride and fertile-aged women, while the cadres were given refreshing additional knowledge about TT immunization. The results of this activity were increasing the cadres’ knowledge about TT immunization, and those prospective-bride and fertile-aged women were also encouraged to carry out active TT immunization at the Primary Health Care. There is also a need for cross-sector collaboration with the Religious Affairs office in the application of evidence of TT immunization for prospective-bride as a mandatory requirement that could be implemented properly.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels before and immediately after moderate-intensity stair climbing exercise in healthy young adults. Twenty-seven subjects performed a 5-minute stair climbing intervention at 60-80% of their maximum heart rate. IL-6 and CRP levels were measured using ELISA before and immediately after exercise. Pearson correlation analysis showed a very low and non-significant correlation between IL-6 and CRP before exercise (r=−0.004, p = 0.986). After exercise, there was an increase in positive correlation (r=0.277) but it remained statistically non-significant (p = 0.180). These results indicate that physical activity of this duration and intensity does not trigger a strong systemic inflammatory response, and thus IL-6 and CRP levels did not show a significant relationship. Differences in the peak timing of these biomarkers and individual physiological adaptations likely influenced these findings. Further studies with biomarker measurements at multiple time points and varying exercise intensities are needed to better understand the dynamics of IL-6 and CRP responses post-exercise. These findings provide important insight into inflammatory responses to moderate exercise in a healthy young population.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Especially in older individuals, perspective can serve as the basis for health behavior. This perspective measures the extent to which tuberculosis patients adhere to the treatment process based on pre-established guidelines. The presence of a negative patient attitude directly correlates with an increased likelihood of non-adherence to therapy, thereby giving birth to additional complications, such as medication resistance. Investigation of the variables influencing the viewpoint of older individuals with Tuberculosis in Bengkulu City. The research utilised a cross-sectional methodology and included a total of 153 participants in Bengkulu City. The sample selection method utilises a multistage random sampling methodology applied during a research period of one month. The data analysis procedure utilizes both univariate and logistic regression estimation techniques. The findings indicated that almost 50% of the participants were male, nearly 50% had completed primary education, nearly 50% were employed as farmers, nearly 50% were divorced, over 50% earned the Regional Minimum Wage, nearly 50% had limited knowledge, and nearly 50% had a negative outlook. Moreover, the findings indicated a correlation between gender, secondary education, agricultural occupation, marital status, income, and knowledge as perceived by senior individuals with tuberculosis in the Bengkulu City Region, with a statistically significant p-value of less than 0.05. The results suggest a correlation between the viewpoint of the respondent and the elements inherent to him. Hence, in order to shift the respondent's viewpoint towards a favorable one and enhance the patient's own treatment process, it is imperative to have active support from all stakeholders, including the family, the community, and the medical team. The adoption of a positive attitude by patients can foster motivation to comply with the treatment suggestions provided by the doctor, thereby potentially resulting in a reduction in the occurrence of tuberculosis. Improved health of the community can ensue as a consequence. Keywords: Perspective of Older People with Tuberculosis, Gender, Socio-Economics.

Abstract

Sugary foods and drinks are defined as foods that contain high levels of sugar. The high sugar content in these foods or beverages generally comes from added sweeteners. Sugary foods and drinks affect human health. If sugary foods and drinks are consumed for a long period of time and in excessive proportions, health problems such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and dental and oral health can occur. School-aged children are consumers who consume a lot of sugary foods and drinks. The incidence of dental caries also often occurs in school children due to consumption of sugary foods and drinks. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide counseling to school children about the risks of consuming sugary foods and drinks, as well as provide education about dental and oral health.

Abstract

More than four million people die each year from respiratory problems, which also affect hundreds of millions more. This disease has detrimental effects on the family, society, and the health and well-being of the patient. especially those living in low- and middle-income countries, where people are daily exposed to indoor air pollution from solid fuels used for cooking and heating. The biggest significant risk factor for respiratory disease in high-income countries is tobacco use. WHO data for 2020 shows that Lower Respiratory Infection Disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease rank number 3 and 4, at 6.1% and 5.8% respectively. There are eight lung diseases that are a public health problem in Indonesia and are included in the scope of the Indonesian Ministry of Health's environmental health and disease control program, including Tuberculosis, Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), Bronchial Asthma, Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive, Lung Cancer, Air Pollution and Climate Change, Combating Smoking Problems, Emerging & New Emerging Diseases (including COVID-19). Since WHO declared the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Indonesia has carried out public interventions to stop the pandemic, including pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical actions (wearing masks, travel restrictions, closing schools, and postponing public events). Non-pharmaceutical interventions have a greater impact on infectious diseases than pharmaceutical interventions, despite the fact that pharmaceutical strategies can target specific organisms.
