Abstract

A factor that should be considered in the use of alginate impression materials is cross-infection control, therefore the result of alginate mold should be disinfected using a chemical or natural materials, such as sodiumhypochlorite (NaOCl) 1%, and bay leaf boiling water (Eugenia polyantha Wight) 100% before gypsum filling. However, this can lead to changes in the dimensional stability on the result of the mold. The objective of this researchwas to determine the effect of the use of these materials as a disinfectant with flushing and immersing method fordimensional stability of alginate mold result. The type of this study was laboratories experimental with post test onlycontrol group design. Total sample is 24 samples of alginate mold result were devided in to 6 groups: 2 control groupsand 4 treatment groups using the flushing and immersing methods. Data were tabulated and analyzed with TwoWay Analiysis of variance (Anova) technique adjusted for multiple comparisons using Tukey's (HSD) method wasused. The result of the study shows that the immersing method gives more influences to the dimensional stability ofalginate mold result, but use flushing method and both disinfectant materials do not have a significant effect ondimensional changes of alginate mold result.

Abstract

Caries of tooth occurs when there is interaction between four etiology factors, such us : tooth surface, substrat, microorganism, and time. The substrat will fermented by microorganism and produce acidity. This acidity caused some components of tooth released, called demineralization. One of the tooth major component is calcium. One way to prevent demineralization is inhibit the activity of microorganism. One of traditional plant that can be use is Piper betle L. The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficiency of Piper betle L. extract to inhibit calsium ion of tooth release. Twelve maxillary first premolars were divided into three groups. The first group (A) was immersed in synthetic saliva and S. mutans, the second group (B) in synthetic saliva, sucrose and S. mutans, and the third group (C) in synthetic saliva, sucrose, S. mutans and Piper betle L extract, for 24 hours each. To identify the calcium ion oftooth release into the immersion media, each sample was tested by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. The results show that group C has the lowest mean. It was concluded that Piper betle L. is efficient to inhibit the calsium ion of tooth release.

Abstract

Teeth with pulp necrosis, whether or not with periapical abnormalities, may be indicated for root canal treatment. Root canal treatment is a treatment carried out with the aim of removing infected dental pulp tissue, necrotic debris, and microorganisms. It aims to make the root canal sterile and can be filled with filling material so that a hermetic density is obtained in the apical area. Root canal treatment consists of three main stages (Triad Endodontics). The endodontic triad consists of preparation, sterilization and root canal filling. These three stages of root canal treatment are very important because not all root canal treatments end with success. The success of root canal treatment can be evaluated after a minimum of six months. Subjective, objective and radiographic examinations need to be conduct for determining the success of the treatment. Root canal treatment is said to be successful if the results of the three examinations are declared good. This type of research is descriptive research. The research method was carried out by subjective, objective and radiographic examination in the study sample who had performed root canal treatment in 2016 that met the criteria of the researcher. The results of the research are included in the table and interpreted with a percentage that is very low to very good. Based on this, it was concluded that the success rate of root canal treatment in non-vital teeth at RSGM University of Jember in 2016 was 54.54% and included in the sufficient category.

Abstract

Class V cavity is cavity happened in a third of anterior or posterior teeth cervix that can be restored with resin composite, glass ionomer cement, and resin modified glass ionomer cement. Discoloration is often seen in the marginal of the filling that caused by microleakage. The purpose of the study is to find out aesthetic restoration microleakage in class V cavity. This study type is laboratory experimental research. There are 12 samples of maxillary premolar which were prepared for class V cavity. Group I restored with resin composite (n=4), group II restored with glass ionomer cement (n=4) and group III restored with resin modified glass ionomer cement (n=4). Furthermore, premolar teeth that have been filled soaked into methylene blue solution for 24 hours at 37°C. The microleakage value is measured based on the penetration depth of methylene blue solution at the marginal of the cavity. The average calculation of microleakage in sequence is resin modified glass ionomer cement, glass ionomer cement, and resin composite. The conclusions of this study prove that there is significant difference in microleakage value of each group samples. Abstract

Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder on chromosome 21 that interferes with growth, development, and physical activity, including brushing teeth. Electric toothbrushes are expected to optimize plaque control because they do not require special techniques. This study was an observational analytic using a Within-subject design. This study was carried out at three inclusive schools in Jember district from September to October 2019, which the subjects of studies were 30 students. Plaque index assessment used the Loe and Silness method by examining 6 teeth and 4 surfaces. The subjects were examined before and after brushing their teeth using a manual toothbrush, and after one week, they used an electric toothbrush. The procedure for using an electric toothbrush is the same as in a manual toothbrush. The data were difference analyzed. The sign test analysis obtained significant results in the plaque index score before and after brushing teeth using a manual toothbrush and an electric toothbrush (p<0.05). There was also a significant difference in the plaque index score in using manual and electric toothbrushes (p<0.05). Briefly, an electric toothbrush was an effective plaque control for Down syndrome.
