In sociolinguistics, language varieties are one of interesting topics discussed, and among those varieties, there is a variety called register. This study itself investigates one of register features namely English terms in Korean Popular Music (K-Pop). The topic is chosen due to the high number of English terms in K-Pop (at least 105 terms) and the difficulties in understanding their meanings. The objectives of this study are (1) describing the form of the terms, (2) describing the formation of the terms, and (3) explaining the specificity of the meanings by comparing the meanings of the terms with the meanings on the dictionary. This study was conducted through several phases called data gathering, data analysis and result presentation of data analysis. Overall, the results reveal several prominent findings. First, most of the terms are in a form of word, meanwhile the terms in phrase are limited. Second, there are several types of term manufacturing, and the most dominant one is compounding. Third, most of the termsâ€™ meanings have been changed from meanings on the dictionary, and they are classified as semantic narrowing.

Over the past decade, along with the rapid growing information of communicationtechnology, information processing has become an indispensable part ofapplication in variety of fields. In relation to language teaching and learning,digital media has invaded the classroom. Unfortunately, during professionaltraining the writerâ€™s gave, those English teachers who belonged to â€˜well preparedâ€™for this sort of media was very few. These teachers used a laptop with certainlearning materials which were prepared prior to teaching and an LCD projectorand/or speakers on the desk. In general, their teaching and learning seemed tobe more interesting due to technology touch. They created an image of beingcreative, and above all, innovative. This paper discusses how technology, in thiscase digital teaching media, supports teaching and learning; then, outlines theproblems facing EFL teachers; and, finally, suggests possible solutions to theproblems. Obviously, this paper is meant to promote professional teaching andcontribute to future researches on similar topic.

In the EFL context, an error analysis is a paramount study. This type of research might bring many advantages to the success of the teaching and learning process itself. This study investigates the types and causes of student errors in writing a narrative text. Furthermore, this research provides several suggestions for decreasing the occurrence of the errors. The research method employed was descriptive qualitative, and the researchers completed this study through several phases called data gathering, data analysis, and data presentation. The data analysis reveals several significant findings. First, there are six types of errors that emerged called the use of tenses, the use of articles, the use of relative pronouns, mistyping, confusing words, and agreement of singular/plural nouns. Second, the interlingual transfer is the most significant factor causing errors. Third, decreasing the errors might be done by paying more attention to global errors, the errors with high frequency, the most influential error type, and the most problematic topic. In this present study, the kind of error requiring more attention is English tenses, and one of the suggested solutions for teaching tenses well is using attractive teaching media such as English songs. Applying effective ways of teaching is an alternative to reduce student errors.

Grammar is a substantial English element commonly considered as a challenging component. This paradigm appears in all education levels including university. Based on the pre-test in a grammar class, the average score of the grammar test was only 62.76, or it was still in C level. The researchers concurred that action research was required, and the solution chosen was literary works such as a short story, a film script, and a novel. This study aimed to enhance students' understanding of English grammar and investigate students' voices on the usage of literary works. This research was successful if the average score of post-test achieved 70 (minimum grade for B level). Then, the instruments employed to obtain the data were tests and questioner. The results revealed that literary works can boost grammar mastery. The average score of the post-test was 70.53, or there was a 12.38% of improvement. This result surpassed the success indicator of this action study. The student perceptions of the use of literary works also tended to be positive since all the items in the questioner received positive responses. Overall, literary works can enhance students' mastery of English structure, and literary works as the proposed media receive positive responses from the pupils.

Teaching English allomorphs through ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret’ movie Asfi Aniuranti; Tono Suwartono

The study is primarily concerned with the use of ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret’ to teach English allomorphs in EFL classrooms. This paper is an alternative way to teach them as a significant element of pronunciation. The types examined are Regular Past Tense, Regular Plural Number, Third Person Present, The Regular Possessive, and Reduced IS and HAS. Besides the main highlight of allomorph pronunciation, the movie also contemplates some suprasegmental features called word stress and sentence intonation. The teachers may also utilize the movie through four phases. They are warm-up activity, completion, categorization, and production. Bringing a movie that has many benefits into EFL classrooms may lead to a good comprehension of English allomorphs to the students.

English as an international language has a vital role in the development of an institution, especially in communication. English Conversation training for academic staff at UNU Purwokerto was held to train and get used to using English on campus to achieve the goal of becoming a world-class university. The training is intensive with the lecturing methods, question and answer, discussion, problem-solving, practice, and evaluation. Participants are very participatory in training. From the three practice activities, the average speaking ability of the participants increased in each practice. The average value in the first practice was 67. Then, the average increased to 74 in the second practice and 80 in the last practice. There is about a 19.40% increase from initial practice to last practice. In addition, the results of the questionnaire also showed a positive response from the participants. The highest percentage for each item in the questionnaire is on a scale of 4 and 5

In every teaching and learning process includes English teaching, there is a phase called ice breaking. The activity that generally only lasts a few minutes is a paramount aspect. Every English teacher or even the candidate has to be skillful in preparing effective ice breaking. Although ice breaking is viewed as a crucial stage in a teaching process, many students miss this phase when they have to do teaching practice. Therefore, the community service team regarding a workshop about icebreaking is still needed by the students as the teacher candidates. This workshop was conducted online via Google Meet in two days, and the participants were the students of the English Language Teaching Department of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Purwokerto. In the workshop, the participants learned the theories related to ice breaking and the examples of ice breaking. They also did some practice on creating ice breaking. Overall, the two-day workshop ran well. The questioner's result also tends to be positive and based on the tasks submitted, the participant's ability to create ice breakers is good enough
