Abstract

Abstract_ The typology of the student flats building as a vertical residence with three or four floors seems to be more at risk of becoming a place of transmission of COVID-19 compared to a residential area. Abstract

The dense area in Pattingalloang Village and Gusung Village is one of the settlements in Makassar City which has a very high-density level. The condition of the area that is very dense with buildings causes open space that functions as a space for social interaction in this area to be very narrow and even tends to be absent. The limited public space in this research location then has the potential to form a spontaneous public space so that the location of the open space is not by its function, for example, the use of roads as public space so that conflicts arise between spaces. The purpose of this research is to identify open space problems in the Pattingalloang and Gusung Urban Village Solid Settlement Areas and analyze the factors that form open space in the Pattingalloang and Gusung Urban Village Solid Settlement Areas. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative and spatial approach. The data collection technique used is field observation and conducting unstructured interviews. This data collection is based on Behavior Setting which is reviewed from various activities at the research location. The results of this study state that the problem of open space in the study area is territorial change, private space becomes public space and public space becomes private space. Factors that influence and shape the formation of open space

Abstract

The physical environment of schools plays a crucial role in shaping students' social behaviour, including the prevention of bullying. This study aims to evaluate the influence of school physical design on bullying through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The review focuses on aspects of visibility, surveillance, and the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in school design. Literature was collected from databases such as ScienceDirect and Google Scholar, using the keyword “school bullying” within the 2014–2024 range. Selected studies are empirical research from the fields of social sciences, psychology, and health that explore the relationship between school physical design and bullying. Inclusion criteria consist of studies examining physical design focused on safety and surveillance, as well as their impact on reducing bullying. Non-empirical or irrelevant studies were excluded. The analysis shows that CPTED principles, such as enhanced visibility and natural surveillance, are effective in reducing bullying incidents. Open and well-supervised areas are proven to be safer than hidden spaces. Moreover, designs that support student comfort contribute to psychosocial well-being and help prevent future mental health risks. This review also presents CPTED-based school design illustrations as practical recommendations for supporting anti-bullying policies in educational settings.
