Abstract

Background: Auricular acupuncture (AKAR) is a diagnostic and treatment system based on normalizing bodily dysfunctions through stimulation of specific points on the ear. Ear stimulation involves neurological reflexes, neurotransmitters, cytokines, the immune system, and inflammation. Subjects and Method: This study is a true experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The study population was all 43 primigravida mothers who were expected to give birth between May and July 2023. The research sample was part of the first stage of labor during the primigravida active phase. The selection of research subjects was carried out by consecutive sampling. Subjects who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups, namely the AKAR intervention group and the deep breathing relaxation control group. The dependent variable was auricular acupuncture, and the independent variable was a duration of labor and interleukin-6. The instrument uses laboratory tests that are carried out, the research site only has a simple laboratory room and does not have a deep freezer - 800C, so the biomarker test is carried out in the laboratory. Assessment of the length of labor using a partograph. Data analysis used the Mann-Whitney test,  the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and the Independent  Sample test Results: The results of post-treatment serum IL-6 levels in the AKAR group were higher (Mean= 187.24; SD= 41.65) pg/mL before the pre-treatment (Mean= 157.67; SD= 51.85) pg/mL, and this difference was significant (p <0.001). Post-treatment serum IL-6 levels in the RND group were higher (Mean= 181.30; SD= 56.86) pg/mL before the pre-treatment (155.65; SD= 50.07) pg/mL. The results of the pre-treatment serum IL-6 levels in the AKAR group were slightly higher (Mean= 157.67; SD= 51.85) pg/mL compared to the RND group (Mean= 155.65; SD= 50.07) pg/mL. Post-treatment, the IL-6 serum level in the AKAR group were higher (Mean= 187.24; SD= 41.65) pg/mL compared the RND group (Mean= 181.30; SD=56.86) pg/mL. The AKAR group had 12 (57%) active phase I stages of labor that lasted less than 360 minutes and 9 (33%) more than 360 minutes. In the RND group, 9 (45%) delivered less than 360 minutes, and 11 (55%) more than 360 minutes. The mean length of labor for the AKAR group was shorther (Mean= 365.40; SD= 65.60) minutes than the RND group (Mean= 407.55; SD = 77.27). Conclusion: There was a difference between IL-6 levels before and after treatment, so it was concluded that AKAR and RND affected serum IL-6 levels in the first stage of labor in the active primigravida phase. There was no significant difference in the length of labor in the active phase of the first stage of labor in primigravidas between AKAR and RND. Abstract

Highlights: 1. Auricular acupressure at the Shenmen point is effective in reducing anxiety.2. Auricular acupressure is more practical than body acupressure since it does not interfere with expectant mothers' mobilization.3. As a non-pharmacological method, auricular acupressure is cost-effective, efficient, and effective in overcoming maternal anxiety during labor   Abstract Anxiety is a common psychological symptom in expectant mothers, particularly among primigravidae during labor. There is a link between excessive anxiety and prolonged labor. One of the options to manage anxiety is the use of non-pharmacological methods. Numerous studies have investigated the effectiveness of auricular acupressure to treat anxiety, but few have examined its effect on anxiety biomarkers. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the effect of auricular acupressure targeting the Shenmen point on the levels of β-endorphins and anxiety among primigravidae during the first stage of labor. This experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were primigravidae in the first stage of labor at the independent midwife practice of Yefi Marliandiani in Surabaya, Indonesia. Among 40 primigravidae, 34 individuals met the inclusion criteria and were then equally divided into treatment and control groups using a simple randomization. The treatment group received auricular acupressure at the Shenmen point every 30 minutes for a duration of 5 minutes, while the control group practiced deep breathing relaxation. The anxiety levels were assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. The β-endorphin levels were measured by drawing 3 cc of venous blood before (4 cm cervix dilation) and after (9–10 cm cervix dilation) treatment. The obtained data were analyzed using paired- and independent-samples t-tests. A decrease in the mean anxiety level was observed in the treatment group (18.59±7.52) relative to the control group (19.76±7.11), albeit not significant (p=0.64). Simultaneously, the average β-endorphin levels of the treatment group (355.4±224.7) increased compared to the control group (225.1±127.5), with a significant difference observed between the two groups (p=0.04). In conclusion, while both auricular acupressure at the Shenmen point and deep breathing relaxation are effective in reducing anxiety, the former is more prominent in its ability to increase β-endorphin levels.

Abstract

Breast care during the postpartum period is a necessity for mothers who have just given birth. The postpartum period itself is six weeks or 40 days after delivery. During the postpartum period, breast care is a very important action to care for the breasts, especially to facilitate the release of breast milk (ASI). Swollen breasts usually occur in the first days of a baby's birth. Data obtained from Barru Hospital showed five cases of swollen breasts. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between postpartum mothers' knowledge and attitudes towards breast care at Barru Hospital. This research uses a correlation analytical method with a cross sectional approach, data collection techniques using questionnaires with respondents namely postpartum mothers who receive services at Barru Hospital. Data analysis uses univariate analysis to test respondents' knowledge and attitudes and bivariate analysis to determine the relationship between variables. The results of univariate research with frequency distribution show that some respondents (52.5 %) have less knowledge, the attitude category shows that some respondents (52.5%) have an unsupportive attitude. The results of bivariate analysis with Chi-Square distribution obtained a value of 0.01 (p-value < 0.05). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that very few of the respondents (19%) were 4 people with little knowledge and a supportive attitude. The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between postpartum mothers' knowledge and attitudes towards breast care at Barru Hospital. Advice to health workers to carry out continuous outreach and education about breast care.

Abstract

Introductions : Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one of the impacts caused by the use of IUDs, namely IUDs. The cause of UTI itself is dominated by the presence of microorganisms that infect the urinary tract. Pseudomonas is one of the bacteria that causes the third largest UTI after E. Coli and Enterococcus. Pseudomonas is capable of infecting the urinary tract when it is inserted, besides that the bacteria can also enter due to improper cleaning techniques. Mulberry leaves are believed to have antibacterial properties such as flavonids, tannins, alkaloids and terpenoids, which can inhibit the growth of bacteria. Methods : The method used in this study uses laboratory experimental methods, by measuring the cause and effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. Using a post-test only control group design approach. Result : The results showed that there was an inhibition zone formed at the smallest concentration of 60% with the medium category of 8,4 mm and the widest inhibition zone was found at a concentration of 100% with the strong category of 12, 6 mm. The results of the analysis test using One Way Anova proved that there was a significant effect of giving mulberry leaf extract on the inhibition of Pseudomonas with a P value of 0.000. Pos Hoc’s test results showed the most influential concentration in each treatment, namely 100%. Conclusions : From the research results, it was found that concentrations of 100% were the most effective concentrations in inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas bacteria.

Abstract

Introduction: Labor begins with the process of opening and effacement of the cervix. Opening and thinning depends on the contraction that occurs. More frequent contractions will speed up labor. If the contractions slow down, the length of labor will be slower. One effort to improve contractions is by doing body movements or light exercise through prenatal yoga. Prenatal yoga is an exercise program for healthy pregnant women to prepare the mother's physical condition by maintaining the condition of the muscles and joints that play a role in the birthing process. Objectives: the type of research carried out is quantitative research, with an experimental research design. The research design is in the form of a two group pre test and post test design. The population consisted of 50 primigravida pregnant women. The research sample was 40 respondents. With a sampling technique in the form of purposive sampling. The 40 respondents were divided into two groups, namely the RND control group and the Prenatal Yoga experimental group. Methods: Data analysis using univariate techniques in the form of frequency distribution and bivariate using the Shapiro Wilk test and independent T test Results: Data analysis using frequency distribution showed that the age of the research subjects ranged from 18-30 years, where the average age of the Prenatal Yoga group was slightly older than the RND group. Bivariate data analysis shows that the Independent Sample Test Results are ρ=2.11. Conclusions: There is a significant difference in the length of the first stage of labor in the active phase in primigravida between Prenatal Yoga and RND. So the use of prenatal yoga needs to be developed and given to mothers who are about to give birth.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a very vulnerable period, not only for the pregnant woman but also for the safety of the fetus in the womb. Pregnancy is a physiological condition, but normal pregnancy can also turn into pathological pregnancy such as changes in the baby's position that are not optimal. In a natural effort to optimize the baby's position, prenatal yoga and BL 67 acupressure can be done. In this way, the mother and baby in labor can walk normally and naturally. This type of research uses quantitative research with a pre-test and post-test design. The total population used was 40 respondents with a research sample used of 39 respondents in accordance with the inclusion criteria. The number of samples was treated and observed using SOPs and assessment checklists. Next, the collected data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed test. With significance, if the calculated value is <0.05, then Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. The results of the research show the influence of Prenatal Yoga and Acupressure Point BL67 (Zhiyin) on Optimizing the Position of the Primigravida Fetus in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy 36-42 Weeks at the Cerme Community Health Center with the Wilcoxon signed statistical test, the p value is 0.000 (< 0.05) so it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. Which means there is an influence of prenatal yoga and acupressure at the BL67 (Zhiyin) point on optimizing the position of the primigravida fetus in the third trimester of pregnancy 36-42 weeks at the Cerme Health Center. In this way, the research results can be implemented as well as possible.
