Abstract

Adolescent girls are susceptible to anemia because they bleed during menstruation. If it continues into pregnancy, anemia can cause the fetus to experience stunting in the future. The percentage of stunted babies and toddlers in Indonesia in 2021 will reach 24.4%. This study aims to determine the relationship between hemoglobin levels and menstrual patterns in adolescent girls. This research is a quantitative observational research with a cross sectional research design. The sampling technique used Cluster Random Sampling with a sample size of 76 respondents. Data analysis used the Pearson Correlation Test and Spearman Correlation Test. Based on the research results, there was no significant relationship between hemoglobin levels and menarche (p value 0.626). There is a significant relationship between hemoglobin levels and menstrual duration (p value 0.0001) and a strong inverse correlation (-0.693). There is a significant relationship between hemoglobin levels and the menstrual cycle (p value 0.0001) and a moderate correlation (0.485). There is a significant relationship between hemoglobin levels and the incidence of dysmenorrhea (p value 0.0001) and a strong correlation (0.691). Female students are advised to maintain diet, rest and exercise patterns so that the hemoglobin formation process is optimal and menstrual patterns are normal.

Abstract

In 2023, Southwest Papua reported a stunting prevalence of 31%. Raja Ampat was identified as the district with the highest contribution to stunting cases in the region. Early marriage accounted for 55% of these cases. This community service initiative aimed to prevent early marriage and stunting through the Comprehend, Ask, Respond, Evaluate (CARE) program for adolescents in Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua. The program involved all 51 third-year students at SMKN 2 Raja Ampat (Vocational High School 2 Raja Ampat). Participants’ knowledge and attitudes regarding early marriage and stunting were measured before and after the intervention using two instruments: an 18-item questionnaire on knowledge of early marriage and stunting and a 20-item questionnaire assessing attitudes toward early marriage. Univariate analysis was conducted to describe participant characteristics, knowledge levels, and attitudes. Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to assess changes in knowledge and attitudes. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results showed that participants’ knowledge improved significantly after the intervention, with low knowledge decreasing from 90.2% at pretest and 58.8% of participants demonstrating excellent knowledge at posttest (p=0.0001). Participants’ attitudes also changed significantly, from predominantly supporting early marriage at pretest (66.7%) to rejecting it after the intervention (88.2%) (p=0.0001). These findings indicate that the CARE program improved adolescents’ awareness of, and critical attitudes toward, early marriage, adolescent pregnancy, and stunting in a geographically isolated area. However, this evaluation measured only short-term outcomes immediately after the intervention, was conducted in a single school, and did not assess long-term behavioral changes. Overall, the CARE program demonstrates the potential of participatory school-based health education as a community engagement strategy for preventing early marriage and reducing future stunting risks in remote areas such as Raja Ampat.

Abstract

Background: Perceived health status is an important subjective indicator reflecting individuals’ physical and psychological conditions and is closely associated with productivity in occupational settings. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with perceived health status among lecturers at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Padjadjaran. Method: This analytic observational study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 68 lecturers were included using total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing perceived health status and associated factors, including behavioral, health service, environmental, and genetic factors. Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests and logistic regression, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Result: Among 68 respondents, 86.8% reported a positive perceived health status. Behavioral factors (p = 0.001) and genetic factors (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with perceived health status, while health service and environmental factors were not significantly associated (p > 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that behavioral factors (p = 0.012) and genetic factors (p = 0.008) remained significant predictors, with behavioral factors identified as the most dominant factor. Conclusion: Behavioral factors and family history of disease significantly influence perceived health status among nursing lecturers. The novelty of this study lies in identifying these determinants in a specific lecturer population within nursing education. Faculty-based workplace health promotion programs focusing on healthy lifestyle behaviors, stress management, periodic health check-ups, and early detection of non-communicable disease risk factors are recommended to improve lecturers’ well-being, academic productivity, and the quality of nursing education.

Abstract

Background: In 2023, the global maternal mortality rate (MMR) reached 197 per 100.000 live births. Most maternal deaths caused by complications are preventable through early detection. The Poedji Rochjati Score Card (KSPR) serves as a widely used screening tool in Indonesia for detecting high-risk pregnancies. However, users may still miscalculate the KSPR score. To minimize errors in completing the conventional KSPR, developers created the E-KSPR Telemedicine application. This tool includes online chat features, explanations of follow-up actions based on score results, and accessibility for both clients and family members. Objective: This study aimed to develop the E-KSPR Telemedicine application to screen risk factors in pregnant women as a preventive measure against maternal mortality. Methods: This research and development (R&D) study developed a web-based E-KSPR Telemedicine application. The study took place from June 24 to July 31, 2024, at Sangkrah Public Health Center. A total of 94 respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria participated. The study used the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to evaluate the application. Researchers analyzed the evaluation results using the UEQ Data Analysis Tool Version 12. Results: The E-KSPR Telemedicine application scored an average above 2.5 across all UEQ scales, indicating that respondents generally had a highly positive perception. Reliability coefficients using Cronbach’s Alpha and Guttman’s Lambda2 showed that five out of six scales scored above 0.7. The novelty scale scored a moderate reliability (alpha = 0.67), but it remained within acceptable limits. Conclusion: The E-KSPR Telemedicine application has strong potential for broader implementation as a digital innovation in maternal and child health services. Recommendation is to integrate E-KSPR Telemedicine with electronic medical record systems at healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Background: Postpartum mothers experience a drop in beta-endorphin levels on day 4. Beta-endorphins play an important role in analgesics, milk production, and preventing postpartum depression. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of core stability exercise on the level of beta- endorphin hormones in postpartum mothers. Methods: The research design used a pretest and posttest controlled group design. Involving 42 respondents, namely postpartum mothers at Halmahera and Ngesrep Health Centers, Semarang. Respondents were divided into 2 groups equally by simple random sampling, namely: experimental group (core stability exercise) and control group (postpartum exercise). Then the effect before and after the intervention on beta-endorphin hormone levels will be seen by controlling anxiety scores. Analysis using independent T test and MANCOVA.Results: The mean increase in beta-endorphin hormone level in the experimental group was 140 ng/ml, while in the control group it was 43.1 ng/ml. Core stability exercise is more effective for increasing beta-endorphin hormone levels after controlling anxiety compared to postpartum exercise with a p value of 0.023.Conclusion: Core stability exercise is effective in increasing beta-endorphin hormone levels in postpartum mothers. This research serves as a guideline for midwives to apply core stability exercise when providing midwifery care to postpartum mothers.
