Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of using YouTube video material to teach speaking. YouTube video material denotes material created by researchers in the form of videos sourced from the YouTube application. The designed material is vocabulary and conversation. The purpose of this research is to examine students' speaking skills in terms of vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as conversation, using YouTube video material. This is an observational research method. The participants in the study were 40 eighth-grade students from SMPN 69 West Jakarta. The researcher's research material consists of two different YouTube channels on the same topic. Students took part in an eight-week trial from March 1, 2022 to April 27, 2022. Students' perspectives were used to collect data for the research instrument. The test was also completed by recalling vocabulary and practicing conversations with other students. The differences in the speaking comprehension scores of students' work show that YouTube has an impact on student performance. This positive outcome implies that students at SMPN 69 West Jakarta can benefit from using YouTube videos to communicate. It is also regarded as a motivator for students to improve their speaking comprehension skills and gain a deeper understanding of English.

Abstract

This study was a qualitative study that explained the perception of Junior High School in West Jakarta in using Google Form app as the English assessment tool. This research aimed to know the students’ experience and the quality using Google form during online learning which conducted at Junior High School in west jakarta with 22 students as the sample and the data were collected by interviewing, and distributing questionnaires. They were asked to fill out a questionnaire and tiga of them were invited to participate in semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire and interview questions totaled 10 questions, each categorized based on the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model), namely perception of usefulness, perception of convenience, perception of intention, and perception of attitude. The results of this study indicate that second grade Junior High School students were found to have more positive perceptions than negative perceptions in the use of Google Form as a tool for assessing student assignments in students' English learning.

Abstract

Program penguatan keterampilan bahasa Inggris dan digital branding bagi Karang TarunaDesa Kadugenep, Kecamatan Petir, Kabupaten Serang, merupakan bentuk pengabdianmasyarakat berbasis pemberdayaan. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatankualitatif partisipatif melalui lima tahapan: persiapan, sosialisasi, pelatihan bahasa Inggris,pelatihan digital branding, serta pendampingan dan evaluasi. Hasil program menunjukkanadanya peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi praktis berbahasa Inggris, khususnya dalamkonteks pelayanan wisata dan pemanduan sederhana. Selain itu, Karang Taruna mampumengelola media sosial lebih profesional melalui produksi konten kreatif yangmenonjolkan identitas lokal. Implementasi program tidak hanya meningkatkan daya saingekowisata desa, tetapi juga mendorong kolaborasi masyarakat dan pemerintah desa untukmembangun ekosistem wisata berkelanjutan. Dengan demikian, penguatan keterampilanbahasa Inggris dan digital branding terbukti relevan untuk mendukung kemandirianekonomi desa serta mendukung tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan (SDGs).Kata kunci : Penguatan Keterampilan, Bahasa Inggris, Digital Branding,Karang Taruna, Ekowisata Desa, Desa Kadugenep

Abstract

The aim of this study are to explore teachers’ strategy to teach literacy in EFL classroom and to find out their reflection in their literacy teaching. This study was conducted in descriptive qualitative approach, by using observation and interview to collect the data from the participants which were seven grades English teacher and ten students in seven grade in an Islamic private junior high school. The results showed that teachers applied various strategies to incorporate literacy in EFLclassrooom, They also shared students’ opinions as English teachers related to their belief and experience towards the teachers’ strategy and their effectiveness in teaching the literacy in English subject Keywords: Literacy, Strategies, EFL

Abstract

This community service program is aimed at implementing a digital-based psycholinguistic approach to enhance the social and emotional competence of orphaned children at the Yayasan Yatim Geser Ya Poris Gaga, Tangerang. The program utilizes digital psycholinguistic media, which includes educational videos, reflective quizzes, and narrative-based exercises. The methodology employed in the program consists of five phases: socialization, training, digital media implementation, mentoring, and evaluation. The evaluation results indicate that the program successfully increased the social-emotional skills of the children by 20–25%, with active participation exceeding 80% in digital-based activities. Furthermore, the program also enhanced the caregivers' ability to utilize technology for the psychosocial development of the orphaned children. In conclusion, the implementation of a digital-based psycholinguistic approach has proven to be effective in improving the social and emotional competence of orphaned children, while also strengthening the caregivers' capacity to conduct psychosocial mentoring. This program offers an alternative technology-based empowerment model that can be adapted by other social institutions to support the psychosocial development of children facing similar challenges. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan pendekatan psikolinguistik berbasis digital dalam meningkatkan kompetensi sosial dan emosional anak yatim di Yayasan Yatim Geser Ya Poris Gaga, Kota Tangerang dalam memanfaatkan media psikolinguistik berbasis digital yang meliputi video edukatif, kuis reflektif, serta latihan berbasis narasi. Metode yang diterapkan dalam pelaksanaan program terdiri dari lima tahapan, yakni sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan media Psikolinguistik digital, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa program ini berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan sosial-emosional anak sebesar 20–25%, dengan partisipasi aktif yang melebihi 80% dalam kegiatan berbasis digital. Selain itu, program ini juga meningkatkan kemampuan pengasuh dalam menggunakan teknologi untuk pembinaan psikososial anak-anak yatim. Kesimpulannya, penerapan pendekatan psikolinguistik berbasis digital terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi sosial dan emosional anak yatim, sekaligus memperkuat kapasitas pengasuh dalam melaksanakan pembinaan psikososial. Program ini menawarkan model alternatif pemberdayaan berbasis teknologi yang dapat diadaptasi oleh lembaga-lembaga sosial lainnya dalam rangka mendukung perkembangan psikososial anak-anak yang menghadapi tantangan serupa.

Abstract

Focus of this research was regarding epenthesis in written wordsof students in Pasir luhur elementary school, Bandung. the writer assumed to identify [1] the way of epenthesis that is written by students and [2] which grapheme that will be found frequently addthe written words. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research methods in this study, which meant that participants were involved in case studies that produced narratives and descriptive explanations about settings or practices. The object of exploration that the writer analyzed in this study is the handwriting made by 10 representative students in one classroom. From the analysis, the writer found a way that made the result of written word became so identic. The results of the research showed that the students experienced epenthesis by added certain letter in the middle of word. The most frequently epenthesis happened is in consonant grapheme. this research can add to the literature for other researchers in the field of psycholinguistics and become a reference for other researcher for linguistic studies

Abstract

This study analyzed the lyrics and music video of "Jentaka" by For Revenge using the semiotic approaches of Charles Sanders Peirce and Ferdinand de Saussure. This research used a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis methods. This approach was chosen because the research aimed to explore the meanings contained in the lyrics and music video of “Jentaka” by the band For Revenge. Through a qualitative approach, the researcher could understand and interpret the symbols and signs used in these media. The song depicted themes such as emotional suffering, identity duality, and self-introspection. The lyrics reflected the conflict between the external appearance of being an entertainer and the inner feelings of pain and sadness. Additionally, the inclusion of a Quranic verse from Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 64. The results of the study indicated that semiotic analysis could reveal complex layers of meaning in artistic works, offering a deeper understanding of the messages and themes conveyed by the artist. This research contributed to further comprehension of the use of signs and symbols in music and music videos as a medium of artistic communication.

Abstract

This study examines the lyrics of the song "Kupu-Kupu Malam" by Titiek Puspa through the lens of Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. By analyzing the song’s lyrics as a system of signs composed of signifiers and signifieds, the research explores how meaning is constructed and how the song reflects the social realities of marginalized women, particularly those engaged in nighttime professions. Data was collected through textual transcription and close reading of the song lyrics.Through qualitative descriptive analysis, the study interprets symbolic elements such as "night butterfly," "smiling through tears," and "black blood" to uncover themes of gender inequality, societal judgment, and emotional duality. The analysis further incorporates paradigmatic and syntagmatic relationships within the lyrics to understand how their structure contributes to broader socio-cultural critiques. The findings reveal that "Kupu-Kupu Malam" not only portrays the complex lives of women stigmatized by society but also serves as a poignant commentary on the tension between personal identity and restrictive social norms. This study demonstrates the relevance of semiotic analysis in uncovering the layered meanings embedded in cultural texts, emphasizing empathy and critical reflection toward social issues that persist in both past and present contexts.

Abstract

This paper analyzed the closing statements of three presidential candidates in Indonesia: Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo. Through a comparative qualitative examination, communication strategies and leadership qualities were evaluated. The objective of this study is to identify the key themes and rhetorical strategies employed by Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo in their closing statements; and second, to assess the effectiveness of these strategies in conveying leadership qualities and policy priorities to the electorate. The closing statements of the candidates were transcribed verbatim from recorded debate session. The primary instrument used for data collection was audio/video recordings of the final presidential debate. In conclusion, effective communication played a pivotal role in shaping public perception and influencing electoral outcomes by understanding the nuances of each candidate's rhetorical strategies, future research can provide valuable insights for political communication and leadership in Indonesia.

Abstract

This qualitative-descriptive study analyzes the social critique represented in the music video “Mari Membaca” by the band Mesin Tempur. The research background lies in the role of music videos as an effective medium for conveying profound messages and the urgency of literacy issues in Indonesia. Using Roland Barthes’s semiotic framework, this study deconstructs how social critique is constructed through intertwined visual and linguistic signs. Primary data were collected through direct observation of the music video to identify denotative signs, followed by analysis through Barthes’s three levels of meaning: denotation (literal meaning), connotation (implied meaning), and myth (ideological meaning). The findings reveal that the video systematically constructs a myth of literacy as an act of resistance. Through a semiotic contradiction between the aggressive, anti-establishment connotations of the grindcore/metal genre and the positive, constructive message of “let’s read”, the video redefines reading as a form of rebellion against ignorance. The study also demonstrates how semiotic analysis can reveal ideological constructions in music video culture. In conclusion, the study finds that “Mari Membaca” redefines literacy as a symbolic act of resistance, transforming it from an academic issue into a cultural movement that calls for public awareness and action.
