Abstract

Poor family nutritional practice is one of the major leading causes of stunting in children aged 0-59 months. Good family nutrition practices are one of the primary keys to stunting prevention. It can also reduce the prevalence of stunting and the impact it has on families, which are included in the category of stunting risk families. This study aimed to investigate nutrition-aware family practices at Haliwen Health Center, Atambua-one of the border areas of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) and Democratic Republic of Timor Leste (DRTL). It is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design that took place at the Haliwen Health Center, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, from September 1 to October 30, 2021. A total of 147 families with children aged 0-59 months, were selected by purposive sampling. Most mothers (60%) gave exclusive breastfeeding to infants aged 0-6 months. Most mothers (78%) firstly gave complementary feeding to infants at the age of 6 months, most families and children (94%) ate a variety of nutritional sources, most families (56%) used iodized salt, most infants (95%) aged 6-11 months and children 12-59 months received vitamin A supplements, most (88%) pregnant women received iron supplement at least 90 tablets during pregnancy, most postpartum women (72%) received two capsules of vitamin A supplements. 58.5% of families at the Haliwen Health Center had implemented 75% nutrition-aware family indicators. However, none of them had performed 100% nutrition-aware family indicators. Sustainable assistance needs to be improved to reach 100% nutrition-aware family and implemented in all families.

Abstract

Background: The Indonesian government has established the latest family-based approach to implement the national strategy to accelerate the reduction of stunting in Indonesia through a family-based intervention approach. Family-based intervention is proven scientifically efective in preventing growth retardation in children under five. However, this research was conducted on families with children aged 0-2 years so that all of the presented problems can be used as a reference in providing family-based interventions. This study aims to describe family health practices in preventing stunting among the people in the border areas of Indonesia and Timor Leste. Subjects and Method: This was a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design, conducted from May to June 2022. A total of 257 families (out of a total population of 566) with children aged 0-24 months spread across 16 integrated healthcare centers (Posyandu) at the Haliwen Health Center, Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The subjects in this study were selected by simple random sampling. The single variable in this study was family health practices in preventing stunting, consists of 18 indicators adopted and elaborated from presidential regulation 72 concerning accelerating the reduction of stunting. the data collected by a set of questionnaires. The data analyze by univariate analysis to describe frequency (n) and percentage (%) of each indicators. Results: Out of a total of 18 assessed indicators, most families still use open garbage cans, burning garbage for destruction, and did not carry out pre-marital health screening. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that most of the health indicators had been carried out by families with infants under two years old. It is in line with the growth status of under-two, most of whom are not stunted. Keywords: stunting, children under two, family-based intervention. Correspondence: Maria Paula Marla Nahak. Abstract

Background: Stunting is a growth and development problem in children caused by chronic malnutrition and disease. There is no bibliometric analysis related to stunting globally and simultaneously using metadata from GS (Google Scholar) and Scopus on Vosviewer visualization from 2012 to 2022. Objectives: To study the trends in research on stunting through a bibliometric analysis of the widely used GS and Scopus databases. Methods: This method was used to investigate and evaluate a large amount of scientific data on stunting, revealing the intricacies of the evolution and novelties related to stunting over a decade (2012-2022). Discussions: Stunting studies have increased over the last decade (2012-2022). The authors most cited based on the Scopus database are Prendergast & Humphrey. The authors most cited based on the GS database is de Onis & Branca. The productive author based on GS is T Siswati from Indonesia. The top numbers one influential author based on Scopus are M. De Onis and P. Svefors. The total number one source article based on Scopus and GS is Plos One. PH Nguyen, P Menon, and VM Aguayo are the three authors who have co-authored the most documents related to stunting in the past decade based on VosViewer visualizations. Based on the results of the VosViewer visualization, six significant clusters were also discussed: review, Inequality, Ethiopia, anemia, trial, and Infant. Conclusions: Stunting prevention in areas or countries with acute stunting needs more detail from governments and WHO. We recommend that future research on the pattern of appropriate policies to prevent stunting be carried out.
