Abstract

This research is aimed at questing adult EFL learners’ self-directed learning performance in an Indonesian University. A case study is purposely employed to probing the learning behavior performed by adult learners when English language learning is taken as the context of this research carried out. Three student teachers are determined to be interviewed to obtain data. The acquired data is analyzed using thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke (2006). The study discovers that the EFL learners performed various activities presenting their self-directed learning in terms of learning motivation, learning strategy, selfmonitoring, and social competence. This research contributes to body knowledge of English language learning at higher education in which a teacher will be able to choose or select appropriate teaching strategies dealing with learners’ learning behaviour promoting autonomous learning. The findings also suggest the learners to conduct learning process properly since selfdirected learning enables the learners to maximize their both internal and external potentials in order to achieve better English achievement.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the perceived usefulness of technology (PUT), internet self-efficacy (ISE), and perceived ease of use of technology (PEUT), and self-regulated learning (SRL) of EFL student teachers who participated in technology-mediated English learning environment. After obtaining and validating the questionnaire adapted from several relevant sources, an online survey was conducted to 363 third- and fourth-year student teachers of the English education department in Indonesian universities who met the required criteria. SEM was performed to test three hypotheses about the causal relationship between variables. Due to the hypotheses tested, it is revealed that ISE and PEUT have a partially positive and significant effect on SRL, while PUT has a positive but insignificant effect on SRL. Additionally, it is determined that the exogenous variables (PEUT) is the most influential variable on the endogenous variables (SRL). These findings are expected to add to a body of knowledge, particularly in the development of learning autonomy in teacher education, and that ISE and PEUT, in particular, should be considered as important predictors of SRL in technological English learning setting.

Abstract

Bullying in schools is a pressing issue, particularly at the elementary level. Data from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) indicates that 28% of students have experienced violence, while 29% have acted as perpetrators. This community service activity aimed to enhance students' understanding of anti-bullying behavior through the use of board games, creating a child-friendly classroom environment at SDN 1 Kota Ternate. The implementation consisted of three stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. Fifth-grade students participated in interactive education using board games, involving case studies and attitude assessments through pretest and posttest evaluations. The results showed increased students' understanding of anti-bullying behavior, with the average pretest score of 65.3 rising to 85.7 in the posttest. The board game effectively created an engaging learning atmosphere, fostered social interaction, and helped students internalize anti-bullying values. This program significantly contributed to creating a child-friendly school environment and preventing bullying behavior from an early age.

Abstract

Online English learning needs individual’ capability to use technology devices and internet wisely and strategy properly. Technology assisted learning is not only about knowing how to operate technology technically, but also to use technology for learning purposes. Due to the problem, this study was aimed to evaluate the internet self-efficacy and task strategies of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) student teachers in an online learning environment. Six participants, representing the third year student teachers from the English education department at a public university in Indonesia, took part in the interview sessions and shared reflective journals. These participants were actively involved in online learning and had been exposed to pedagogical, technological, and English language knowledge for one semester. The data were analysed using thematic analysis, following a qualitative descriptive approach in order to investigate student teachers’ perception on the English online class they had experienced deeply and comprehensively. The findings reveal that internet self-efficacy drives EFL student teachers to use the internet for learning purposes, including sharing and collaboration, building relationship and communication skill, and learning enhancement and enactive learning. Additionally, their task strategies are identified in terms of technology assisted problem solving, digital portfolio and learning resources management, self-control, and meaningful collaboration. Thus, internet self-efficacy and task strategies are the keys to creating effective learning environment. These findings have pedagogical implications, suggesting that learners and teachers should view technology devices as tools to be used strategically to achieve learning objectives, especially in an online English learning context.

Abstract

Classroom interaction is an essential part of the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This study aims to understand the interactions that occur between teachers and students in a kindergarten setting. The study involved one teacher and 20 students. This research used a qualitative method, namely a descriptive case study. Data were collected through video-recorded observations. The data were analyzed using the theory of Miles and Huberman (1994). The study shows that teacher-student interactions can be seen from teacher talk and student talk. In teacher talk, several indicators emerged, such as: dealing with feelings, praising and encouraging, using the ideas of students, asking questions, giving information, and giving direction. Meanwhile, in student talk, there are indicators like student response, specific, nonverbal, silence, student-initiated, and laughter. Asking questions is the most frequently used by the teacher, while student response, specifically, is the most dominant response by the students.
