Abstract

Dictation is one of techniques in learning foreign language. Understanding dictation is not always easy for students. An English lecturer should choose suitable techniques to teach them in order not to make students bored because she is one of the factors that determines whether the teaching learning process will be successful or not. The lecturer has to be able to apply various techniques in teaching English because the students prefer listening and writing an easy text. So, the lecturer can use correction techniques like shadow dictation and passing the buck.

Abstract

One of factors for student success in speaking ability is to use their listening ability, because Listening is play important in development process of speaking ability. therefore, this research aimed to finding out the correlation between students’ listening skill and speaking ability.This research applied a correlation study and used a quantitative design, the subject were 22 students of English Department second semester Madura University. There are two instruments to collect the data on this research. (1) essay test was used to get the data of their listening skill. (2) interview was used to get the data of their speaking ability.Person correlation product moment and SPSS version 26 program is used to analysis the data. Abstract

Politeness is a way to convey expressions smoothly, nicely and politely in verbal communication. Politeness is also required to be carried out in official forums such as the learning and teaching process in the classroom. In this case, the researcher is interested and raises the title of violation from the maxim of politeness in language teaching and learning interactions in the seventh semester students. The purpose of this study is to describe objectively the politeness maxims violated by teacher or students in the class interaction. This research is a qualitative research and the source of data in this study is in the form of conversations between students and teachers that have been copied or converted into written form. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the deviation of politeness maxims in teaching and learning interactions occurs in all politeness maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, maxim of generosity, maxim of praise, maxim of humility, maxim of agreement, and maxim of sympathy. The maxim that most violated appear in wisdom maxim, generosity maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim with three violation of each. While the violation that occurs the least is the maxim of humility which only appears once. Violations from these maxims occur due to various behaviors, such as giving harm to others, having bad thoughts, criticizing and putting others down, self-effacing, and showing antipathy towards others

Abstract

Writing is one of important skill in language learning, which needs extra attention to be mastery and desired proficiency. In fact, this skill is still minimally touched, especially for teaching writing using media.Thisstudy is aimed to find the effectiveness using card sort as media in teaching writing at SMP Maarif 10 Pamekasan. Card sort is alternative media for assist students in teaching writing. This research method is a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The results found that in the experimental class the proportion score was higher than in the control class. There is a significant effect of the use of card sort as media in teaching writing. It can be concluded that there is a difference in the average score of students’ writing ability scores between teacher teaches writing with card sort and teacher teaches writing without card sort. The main thing is increasing students writing skills because writing paragraph using card sort media can attract students’ enthusiasm for learning.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the kinds of errors in pronunciation and the sources of errors in pronunciation at basic class of At English Club Lubangsa Putri Annuqayah Guluk-Guluk Sumenep. This research is expected as guidance for the teacher to know about the students’ errors in using English in conversation. So the teacher can formulate some methods or strategies in teaching English pronunciation.The method of this research is the qualitative in order to interpret the data of the research. The population of this research was the basic class of At English Club Lubangsa Putri Annuqayah Guluk-Guluk Sumenep. The writer chose the basic class as sample by using total sampling technique because of the population was less than one hundred students and the sample consists of 18 students. A test was applied as instrument in this research which is consisted of some words to be pronounced. The writer interprete the data descriptively and the result shows that The Students of the basic class of At English Club Lubangsa Putri Annuqayah Guluk-Guluk, The misformission error amount 67, 53%, its get from 16 words and 112 students who are made pronounciation error.  The addition error amount 24, 7%, its get from 6 words and 45 students who are made pronounciation error. The omission error amount 13,7%, its get from4 words and 25 students who are made pronounciation error by analyzing the source the writer found that there are two sources of errors that students had; firstly, they were pronouncing English word as written and overgeneralization when they were pronouncing the word.
