Abstract

General health is influenced by dental and oral health, which is an essential component of it. Toddlers experience tooth decay more quickly than adults do. This is because the enamel on freshly erupted teeth is still developing and is, therefore, more prone to caries. Aside from that, another common poor habit is parents ignoring their kids' bad habits by drinking irresponsibly and for extended periods from bottles. Early Childhood Caries is defined as having one or more teeth that are damaged (having cavities or not) and tooth loss on the surface of primary teeth caused by caries or fillings in children 71 months of age or younger. Children's oral and dental health is significantly influenced by the actions of their parents, particularly mothers. The state of mothers' and their children's oral health is significantly correlated. This study intends to ascertain if maternal conduct about preserving the dental health of her offspring and the frequency of Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is related. This study combines a cross-sectional analytical research design with a correlative descriptive research design. The Spearman correlation test is the statistical method employed. Maternal conduct and the preservation of children's dental health are significantly correlated, as indicated by the Spearman rank correlation test results, which had a p-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05 (p-value <0.05). Based on the study's findings, it can be said that early childhood caries (ECC) incidence and a mother's behavior toward preserving her kids' oral health are related.

Abstract

Background: Dental health is one part of child growth and development that needs to be considered. Mazedent Based on AR (Augmented Reality) is a game application that displays 3D objects and voice overs about dental and oral health which is useful as a learning and educational media to provide information for children with mild intellectual disability. This game application was created as a learning media for dental and oral health. Method: The type of research used was pre-experimental with a pre-test and post-test group design. A questionnaire was created to measure the knowledge of children with mild intellectual disability at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar and SLB Arnadya regarding dental and oral health before and after using Mazedent Media Based on AR (Augmented Reality). Results: Based on the results of the study, it was found that the average interpretation of 3 questions could be answered yes by the subjects before being given learning and after being given learning the ability to answer yes the subjects were an average of 12 questions, this showed an increase in the subjects. Conclusion: The results of the Wilcoxon test have a p value of 0.000 < (0.05), so it can be concluded that there is an influence of AR (Augmented Reality)-based Mazedent Media as a learning medium for dental and oral health for children with mild intellectual disability at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar and SLB Arnadya.

Abstract

Tooth extraction is a minor surgical procedure involving hard and soft tissues in the oral cavity. The level of anxiety towards dental treatment procedures ranks fifth among several other common symptoms that can cause anxiety. Treatment to reduce the level of patient anxiety can be done with pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Jasmine flower essential oil (Jasminun grandiflorum) is one of the non-pharmacological methods used to reduce the level of anxiety in tooth extraction patients. To determine the effectiveness of using jasmine flower essential oil (Jasminum grandiflorum) on the level of anxiety in tooth extraction patients. This study was conducted at the Regional Special Hospital for Teeth and Mouth (RSKDGM) in Makassar. This study is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest approach. The measuring instrument used was the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) questionnaire which was given before and after giving jasmine flower essential oil for 10 minutes to reduce the level of anxiety in tooth extraction patients. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, it showed a significant decrease in the level of anxiety in patients after inhalation of jasmine flower essential oil aromatherapy. Before treatment, the majority of patients had moderate anxiety (47.9%), while after treatment, mild anxiety increased to 89.6% (p-value 0.000). Jasmine Flower (Jasminun Grandiflorum) essential oil is effective in reducing the level of anxiety in tooth extraction patients.
