Abstract

One of the challenges encountered by students when studying distance in space is the difficulty in conceptualizing abstract mathematical concepts, such as determining perpendicular line segments in a cube represented in a two dimensional image. The visualization of abstract mathematical objects can be represented using augmented reality (AR) technology. This technology turns images of objects into virtual ones that appear in the real world. Previous studies showed that there is a need to enrich AR application with more multimedia content. Developing an AR system utilizing smartphones has become a prevalent endeavor recently. This study aims to develop augmented reality-based learning media to enhance students' comprehension of the concept of distance in three-dimensional space. This study employed a research and development (R&D) approach utilizing the ADDIE model, comprising five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The sample consisted of 36 students in the  12th-grade from a high school located in Indonesia, and the experiment employed a pretest-posttest control group design. The Mann-Whitney U test showed no statistically significant difference between the pretest scores of the experimental and control groups. However, the posttest results showed the experimental group had a higher mean rank score (22.36) than the control group (14.64), with a p-value of 0.017 and effect size of 0.42. This indicates that the learning media has a meaningful impact, which can significantly improve students' ability to understand the material on distance in a three-dimensional space.

Abstract

Recent discourse in mathematics education emphasizes the need for culturally relevant pedagogy and the integration of higher-order thinking skills, yet limited research explores the intersection of ethnomathematics and computational thinking within school curricula. This study addresses this gap by proposing a novel instructional framework that incorporates computational thinking into the ethnomathematical exploration of Rumoh Aceh—a traditional Acehnese house—within the context of junior high school geometry education in Indonesia. The research aims to enhance students’ understanding of geometric concepts such as lines, angles, shapes, and spatial structures through culturally grounded learning experiences. Using the four core components of computational thinking—decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking—the geometric design of Rumoh Aceh is analyzed to reveal its mathematical significance. Data collection was conducted through ethnographic methods, including observation, interviews with local experts, and documentation analysis. The findings demonstrate that applying computational thinking to cultural artifacts fosters students’ ability to recognize geometric patterns, simplify complex problems, and develop structured problem-solving strategies. Furthermore, the integration of cultural context enriches students’ appreciation of their heritage while cultivating critical thinking and mathematical reasoning. This study provides empirical evidence supporting the pedagogical value of merging ethnomathematics with computational thinking, offering a meaningful and culturally responsive approach to mathematics education.

Abstract

The implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) requires students to have higher order thinking skills (HOTs), which remain challenging for many Indonesian students. One key component of HOT is mathematical communication skills, which can be improved through the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. From an Islamic perspective, Sedekah (Sedekah) represents an act of giving that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 objective of poverty alleviation. This study aims to determine the differences in enhancing mathematical communication skills and students' awareness of No-Poverty through PBL learning in the context of Sedekah in Islamic and Regular Schools. This study employed a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental research design. The population was all students in one Regular School, Banda Aceh and one Islamic School, Aceh Besar, Aceh, Indonesia. This sample included 56 students in an experimental class and 56 in a control class. The instruments in this study were a mathematical communication skill test and a questionnaire assessing students' awareness of No-Poverty. The hypothesis was tested using MANOVA, the Independent t-test, and the two-way ANOVA. The effect size of PBL learning was determined based on the Cohen-d effect size calculation. The findings reveal a significant difference in the improvement of mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation between students in regular and Islamic schools. However, no interaction was found between the PBL model contextualized in sedekah and students' educational levels regarding mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation. These results suggest that the PBL model effectively enhances students' mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation.

Abstract

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is utilized to determine a country's inflation and deflation rate. Inflation decreases the buying power of consumers; meanwhile, continuous deflation will lead to a recession. characterized by a stagnant economy and a diminished willingness among manufacturers to innovate. The CPI trends serve as a valuable economic indicator and a standard for manufacturing costs that reflect price fluctuations at the consumer level for specific goods and services. This study aims to forecast the CPI in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, utilizing CPI data in the region from January 2017 to October 2022 by applying the Fuzzy Time Series Chen and Fuzzy Time Series Markov Chain methods. Forecasting accuracy is assessed by the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The Fuzzy Time Series Chen method obtained a MAPE of 2.98% and an MAE of 3.64, whereas the Fuzzy Time Series Markov Chain method attained a MAPE of 1.07% and an MAE of 1.27. This indicates that the predicting accuracy of the Fuzzy Time Series Markov Chain surpasses that of Chen's Fuzzy Time Series, leading to the conclusion that CPI forecasting in Banda Aceh City utilizing the Fuzzy Time Series Markov Chain approach is more precise.
