Abstract

ABSTRACTGarlic (Allium sativum L.) is a plant white bulbs onion  that contains antibacterial compounds such as alicin, flavonoid, and saponin. The aim of this study was to formulate an ointment extract of white bulbs onion  (Allium sativum L.) with various concentrations of 2,5%; 5%; 7,5%; and 10%, and then evaluated the ointment according to the physical evaluation requirements. The diffusion method was utilized to test the activity of the ointment preparation towards Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The results showed that garlic (Allium sativum L.) could be formulated as an antibacterial ointment and met the requirements of the ointment evaluation test according to the results of the organoleptic test based on the white ointment, F1 and F2 were pale yellow, and F3 and F4 were brownish yellow with odor lemon. The homogeneity tests indicated no lumps in the ointment preparation, and the pH test revealed that it was within the range of 4.5 to 6.5. The spreadability  test met the requirements of 5 - 7 cm, and the adhesion test met the requirements of more than 4 seconds. The results showed that the ethanol extract ointment of garlic (Allium sativum L.) could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria which concentrations of 10 % Staphylococcus aureus resulted in the zone of inhibition of 15.5 mm is categorized as strong and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria resulted in the zone of inhibition of 15.1 mm is categorized as strong and F4 is the best formula for generating the zone of inhibition.Keywords: Garlic (Allium sativum L.), Antibacterial ointment, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidisABSTRAKBawang Putih (Allium sativum L.) merupakan tanaman umbi bawang putih yang memiliki kandungan senyawa alicin, flavonoid dan saponin yang mampu memberikan efek antibakteri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memformulasikan salep ekstrak etanol bawang putih (Allium sativum L.) dengan berbagai konsentrasi 2,5%; 5%; 7.5%; 10% dan mengevaluasi sediaan salep sesuai dengan persyaratan evaluasi fisik. Pengujian aktivitas sediaan salep terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Staphylococcus epidermidis dilakukan dengan metode difusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa  bawang putih (Allium sativum L.) dapat diformulasikan sebagai sediaan salep antibakteri dan memenuhi persyaratan uji evaluasi sediaan salep sesuai dengan hasil uji organoleptik basis salep berwarna putih, F1 dan F2 berwarna kuning pucat, dan F3 dan F4 berwarna kuning kecoklatan berbau lemon. Uji homogenitas menunjukkan tidak adanya gumpalan pada sediaan salep, uji pH sesuai dengan persyaratan yaitu 4.5 – 6.5. Uji daya sebar sesuai dengan persyaratan yaitu 5 – 7 cm, dan uji daya lekat sesuai dengan persyaratan yaitu lebih dari 4 detik. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa salep ekstrak etanol bawang putih (Allium sativum L.) dapat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Staphylococcus epidermidis dimana konsentrasi 10 % bakteri Staphylococcus aureus menghasilkan zona hambat 15.5 mm termasuk kategori kuat dan bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis menghasilkan zona hambat 15.1 mm termasuk kategori kuat dan  formula F4 merupakan formula terbaik dalam menghasilkan zona hambat.Kata Kunci : Bawang putih (Allium sativum L.), Salep antibakteri, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis

Abstract

Panti asuhan yang merupakan lembaga sosial nirlaba, secara tidak langsung ikut mengalami dampak yang diakibatkan oleh adanya pandemi COVID-19. Banyak donatur yang mulai membatasi sumbangan yang diberikan ke panti-panti asuhan. Sedangkan, panti asuhan masih membutuhkan banyak biaya untuk keberlangsungan operasionalnya. Oleh karena itu, untuk membantu panti asuhan menjadi lebih mandiri dalam perekonomiannya, maka tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat dari Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Sam Ratulangi melaksanakan edukasi dan pelatihan pembuatan sabun cair antiseptik yang juga menjadi upaya pencegahan penularan COVID-19. Kegiatan ini dimulai dari tahap koordinasi, persiapan kegiatan, pelaksanaan penyuluhan, pelatihan pembuatan sabun cair antiseptik, serta evaluasi. Kegiatan ini memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada anak-anak di panti asuhan mengenai sabun cair antiseptik dengan pemberian edukasi tentang sabun, pelatihan pembuatan sabun cair, pengemasan hingga pemasaran, serta praktek cara cuci tangan yang benar. Pengetahuan dan keterampilan tersebut diharapkan dapat terus diimplementasikan oleh panti asuhan, sehingga dapat meningkatkan produktivitas ekonomi panti asuhan. Selain itu, produk sabun yang dihasilkan dapat dimanfaatkan dalam lingkungan panti asuhan sebagai upaya pencegahan penularan  COVID-19.

Abstract

The exposure of sunlight consisting UV radiation has been reported to be the main cause of skin cancer and contribute about 80% of the incidence of skin damage. In an attempt to overcome this problem, antioxidant agents have been used both orally and topically. Compared to oral administration, topical route has been found to be preferred due to the direct action to the desired site. Amongst topical preparation, gel possesses numerous because it provides a cool and fresh sensation. Here, we developed gel antioxidant containing cinnamon extract as active ingredient. Cinnamon was selected as it has a very strong antioxidant activity. This study aimed to obtain the penetration profile of the antioxidant gel of cinnamon extract prepared from two different hydrocolloid agents. The gels were made using various concentrations of Carbopol 940 and NaCMC. The prepared gels were further characterized for their antioxidant capacities using the DPPH free radical scavenging method and their total phenolic contents using the spectrophotometric method. The formulation possessing the strongest antioxidant capacity was continued for ex vivo penetration study using Franz diffusion cells. The results exhibited that the total phenolic value of the cinnamon extract obtained was 908.38 ± 6.54 mg GAE/g extract. The penetration percentages for the formula with Carbopol and NaCMC bases were 53.310 ± 1.217% and 27.969 ± 1.151%, respectively, and the retention percentages were 28.495 ± 0.031% and 18.356 ± 0.191%, respectively. Based on these findings, we concluded that cinnamon extract could potentially be formulated into antioxidant gel preparations and formulas based on Carbopol showed the best penetration profile.

Abstract

Daun Kelor (Moringa oleifera Lam.) bermanfaat untuk menghambat aktivitas pertumbuhan bakteri karena adanya kandungan senyawa flavonoid , alkaloid, dan fenol. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol daun Kelor dan sediaan masker gel peel-off ekstrak etanol daun Kelor terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental laboratorium, ekstrak etanol daun kelor dan sediaan masker gel peel-off ekstrak etanol daun Kelor dibuat dengan konsentrasi 1, 3, 5, 7, dan 9%. Ekstrak daun Kelor diperoleh dengan cara maserasi dengan menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pada pengujian antibakteri menggunakan metode sumuran. Diameter zona hambat paling besar yang ditimbulkan oleh ekstrak etanol daun Kelor yaitu pada konsentrasi 7% dengan diameter zona hambat sebesar 5,75 mm, sedangkan pada sediaan masker gel peel-off tidak menunjukkan adanya daya hambat. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun Kelor memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang.Moringa oleifera Lam. (Moringa oleifera) leaves are useful for inhibiting bacterial growth activity due to the presence of flavonoid, alkaloid, and phenol compounds. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of the Moringa leaf ethanol extract and the gel peel-off mask preparation of Moringa leaf ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study uses laboratory experimental methods, Moringa leaf ethanol extract and gel mask peel-off preparation for Moringa leaf ethanol extract made with concentrations of 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9%. Moringa leaf extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent. In antibacterial testing using the well method. The biggest inhibition zone diameter caused by ethanol extract of Moringa leaves is at a concentration of 7% with a inhibition zone diameter of 5.75 mm, whereas the peel-off gel mask preparation did not show any inhibitory power. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Moringa leaves has antibacterial activity which is included in the medium category.

Abstract

Marlin fish (tindarung) is one of the fish produced in the waters of North Sulawesi. The process of processing tindarung fish produces fish bone waste which can be maximized for processing as fish oil. Fish oil contains essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce naturally. This research aimed to determine the antioxidant activity and characteristics of tindarung fish bone oil. Tindarung fish bone oil extraction was carried out using wet rendering method. Next, antioxidant activity was tested using DPPH method. Characterization was carried out using the titration method. Based on the results of the antioxidant activity test, tindarung fish bone oil has an antioxidant activity of 20,958 ± 2,736 µg/mL. Apart from that, tindarung fish bone oil has characteristics that meet the standards of the International Fish Meal and Oil Manufacturers Association, namely a density of 0.91 g/mL; peroxide value of 20 meq/kg; free fatty acids of 5.65%; and the iodine number is 7.25 mg/100 g. This shows that tindarung fish bone oil can be consumed regularly as a supplement to maintain health. Proses pengolahan ikan tindarung menghasilkan limbah tulang ikan yang dapat dimaksimalkan pengolahannya sebagai minyak ikan. Minyak ikan mengandung asam lemak esensial yang tidak dapat diproduksi secara alami oleh tubuh. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan aktivitas antioksidan dan karakteristik dari minyak tulang ikan tindarung. Ekstraksi minyak tulang ikan tindarung dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode wet rendering. Selanjutnya, pengujian aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH. karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan metode titrasi. Berdasarkan hasil ujiaaktivitasantioksidan, minyak tulang ikan tindarung memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sebesar 20,958 ± 2,736 µg/mL.  selain itu, minyak tulang ikan tindarung memiliki karakteristik yang memenuhi standar International Fish Meal and Oil Manufacturers Association, yaitu massa jenis sebesar 0,91 g/mL; bilangan peroksida sebesar 20 meq/kg; asam lemak bebas sebesar 5,65%; dan bilangan iod sebesar 7,25 mg/100 g. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa minyak tulang ikan tindarung dapat dikonsumsi secara teratur sebagai suplemen untuk menjaga kesehatan. Abstract

Activities outside are unavoidable and lead to increased sun exposure to the skin. The purpose of this study was to formulate a gel using cinnamonraction as active ingredients. Cinnamon is extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol solvents. The resulting fraction was then tested for total flavonoid content and antioxidant capacity using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl, 1-picrylhydrazil). Fractions that have strong antioxidant activity was further used as active ingredients. The test results of the total flavonoid content of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol fractions were 0.265%w/wEQ; 1.035%w/wEQ; and 1.169%w/wEQ respectively. Testing of antioxidant capacity gave an IC50 value of 124.729ppm; 8.636ppm; and 7.858ppm. Furthermore, the butanol fraction was selected as the best fraction and used as the active ingredient of the gel formula. In conclusion, the butanol fraction could be formulated into a gel that met the requirements of physical characteristics.Keywords: butanol fraction, cinnamon, total flavonoid, antioxidant capacity, gel fraction

Abstract

Nowadays, modern society's activities are mostly carried out outside, so the harmful effects of changes in temperature, exposure to UV radiation, pollution and air humidity, namely a decrease or even loss of skin moisture, cannot be avoided. If untreated, reduced moisture in the skin will not only make the skin scaly, but will also cause irritation or injury to the skin. This research aimed to test the moisturizing effect of the best body lotion formula and also test irritation and hedonics. This test had received ethical approval and was carried out on the same panelists and the moisturizing effect of the preparation was measured using a skin moisture analyzer. The results obtained show that the formulation could increase the moisture of the panelists' skin by 56% and irritation testing showed no redness and swelling. So it can be concluded that the cinnamon extract body lotion formula had a moisturizing effect and not irritating so it was harmless to apply on the skin.

Abstract

Minyak gosok mengandung bahan-bahan alami seperti minyak esensial yang dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif dalam pengobatan terutama untuk meredakan nyeri. Produk ini beraroma spesifik dan berfungsi sebagai penghangat tubuh sekaligus dapat menghilangkan rasa nyeri dan pegal linu, diminati masyarakat untuk pemeliharaan Kesehatan dan berpotensi dikembangkan menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi dan pelatihan mengenai proses pembuatan minyak gosok berbahan alami kepada masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan berupa sosialisasi dan pelatihan pembuatan minyak gosok pada jemaat kolom 28 dan 29 GMIM Imanuael leilem. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan masyarakat telah memahami mengenai materi sosialisasi dan cara pembuatan minyak gosok terlihat dari sesi tanya jawab yang ada. Berdasarkan hasil yang ada menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan sumber daya alam yang ada dalam bentuk minyak gosok

Abstract

Hiperurisemia adalah penyakit metabolik yang disebabkan oleh kelainan metabolisme purin, terutama karena peningkatan pembentukan atau penurunan ekskresi urat. Data Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 7,44 juta kasus hiperurisemia di seluruh dunia pada tahun 2017 dan hasil Riset Kesehatan Dasar Indonesia (Riskesdas) pada tahun 2018, prevalensi penyakit sendi di Provinsi Sulawesi Utara sebesar 8,35%, di atas rata-rata nasional sebesar 7,3%, selain faktor genetik makanan tinggi purin juga menjadi faktor risiko asam urat. Salak merupakan salah satu buah yang potensial untuk dikembangkan menjadi produk farmasi. Cuka adalah produk yang diperoleh dari fermentasi bahan yang mengandung gula atau pati melalui proses fermentasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memformulasikan cuka salak dan untuk menguji efek pemberian cuka salak pada tikus putih hiperurisemia yang diinduksi dengan jus hati ayam. Cuka salak diperoleh dari fermentasi buah salak dengan menggunakan bakteri Saccharomyces cereviciae dan bakteri acetobacter aceti. Data menunjukkan bahwa cuka salak memiliki aroma khas buah salak dengan pH 3,46. Aktivitas antihiperurisemia menunjukkan bahwa cuka salak memiliki potensi untuk menurunkan kadar asam urat pada tikus putih hiperurisemia.

Abstract

Chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) leaves have been used empirically as wound healing caused by sharp objects. Several studies showed that it has antibacterial and wound healing activities. This study aims to formulate gel from chili leaves extract, then determine wound healing activity and irritating properties on rat’s skin. Gel was formulated by using various types and concentrations of gelling agents, consisted of Carbopol 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose at 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% respectively. Cycling test was conducted to determine the physical stabilities. The results showed that all formula has no altered on organoleptic properties and pH value. Gel of 0.5% Carbopol (F2) and 7.5% of HMPC (F5) has no change in spreadability and adhesion properties. Based on statistical analysis using paired t-test and one-way ANOVA, it concludes that F2 and F5 were physically stable and further evaluated as wound healer. Wound healer evaluation showed that the healing time (days) of Carbopol based gel (F2) was 10.2±1.26 and HPMC based gel was 8±0.82. The length of incision wound (cm) at 8th day was 0.5±0.183 for F2 and 0.06±0.071 for F5. Statistical analysis of healing time showed p<0.01 and wound length showed p<0.05 indicated that F5 (contained 5% HPMC) was significantly different compared to negative control. The results of the irritation test showed that gel formulas were not causing erythema and edema on rat’s skin. It can be concluded that gel of chili leaves extract that formulated with 5% of HPMC has wound healing activity and safety to be used.
