Abstract

Financial literacy encompasses the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed financial decisions and is critical to individual and societal well-being. The gender gap in financial literacy is widespread and persistent. Using Chen and Volpe’s (1998) framework, this study aims to examine the level of financial literacy of English Literature study program students from a gender perspective. This study used a quantitative descriptive method, with data collected from 77 seventh-semester students through a validated questionnaire. The results showed an overall moderate level of financial literacy, with an average correct answer rate of 73.2%. Personal financial planning emerged as the most vital domain, while debt management was the weakest domain. Analysis from a gender perspective showed that female students had a higher average score (73.94%) than male students (69.8%), although there was more significant variability in scores among female students. These results suggest that female students generally have better financial literacy. Women are more engaged in financial literacy learning when the material is relevant to their personal or social needs, such as household budget planning and future financial security.

Abstract

This study examines the political literacy levels of 30 English Literature students at the State University of Medan, focusing on their ability to navigate, interpret, and critically evaluate international news. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire addressing key factors such as media literacy, civic engagement, and critical thinking. The findings reveal that only 30% of the students demonstrated good political literacy, characterized by consistent fact-checking and critical evaluation of news sources, while 70% exhibited moderate to poor literacy. Key challenges include over-reliance on social media, limited civic participation, and a lack of understanding of political structures. Additionally, only 23% of students correctly identified factual and fake news items, underscoring gaps in media literacy. These results highlight the need for targeted interventions, such as media literacy workshops, enhanced political education, and increased opportunities for civic engagement. By addressing these gaps, the study aims to foster a politically literate and engaged generation of university students.

Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of developing soft communication skills through the popular online game Mobile Legends, focusing on university students' teamwork and strategic interactions. The purpose is to explore how collaborative gaming environments facilitate the enhancement of essential communication competencies. Utilizing qualitative methods, including surveys and interviews, the research gathers insights from participants about their experiences in gameplay. Findings revealed that involvement in Mobile Legends significantly improved skills such as effective communication (51.6% effective), teamwork (54.8% effective), strategic interaction (61.3% effective), decision making (51.6% effective), and multi-tasking (48.4% less effective). Thus underscoring the potential of games as a valuable tool for developing interpersonal skills in academic settings.

Abstract

 UD Donat Asri merupakan salah satu tempat usaha di bidang pembuatan roti, pada pengolahan roti masih adanya keluhan muskuloskeletal  disorders  yang  dialami oleh operator sehingga masih  ada  postur  kerja  operator  yang  kurang ergonomi serta kurangnya  fasilitas  kerja  yang  mendukung  operator  untuk  melakukan aktivitas kerja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengidentifikasi keluhan muskuloskeletal disorders yang dialami pekerja pengolahan roti dengan menggunakan Nordic Body Map, dan merancang fasilitas kerja yang ergonomis. metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu metode REBA untuk menentukan  nilai  postur  kerja  operator dengan bantuan Software Ergofellow. Hasil penelitian menghasilkan data tingkat keluhan yang dialami oleh pekerja saat melakukan proses pengolahan roti berdasarkan NBM, keluhan terbesar pada bagian tubuh yaitu sebesar 79,17%, dan keluhan terkecil pada bagian tubuh dengan persentase 33,33%, sedangkan persentase keluhan yang dialami oleh pekerja pengolahan roti berdasarkan NBM menunjukan bahwa  keluhan yang paling  tinggi  yaitu  pada  stasiun  penggorengan persentase  72,30%,  persentase   terendah   yaitu   pada   stasiun   pengemasan  sebesar 48,21%. Penilaian postur kerja dengan software Ergofellow memperoleh skor REBA tertinggi adalah pada posisi kerja 5 yaitu pada aktivitas penggorengan roti dengan  nilai  skor  sebesar  11  dan  dikategorikan  kedalam  action  level sedangkan skor REBA terendah yaitu pada posisi kerja 4 pada aktivitas pembulatan adonan dengan skor REBA sebesar 4 dan dikategorikan ke dalam action level berdasarkan  perhitungan  antropometri  dengan persentil 50 rata-rata yang mana panjang meja yaitu 160 cm, lebar meja kerja persentil 50 rata-rata yang mana lebar meja yaitu 79 cm, tinggi meja kerja persentil 50 rata-rata sehingga didapat urutan tinggi meja yaitu 103 cm sedangkan tinggi  fasilitas kerja  dengan persentil 50 rata-rata sehingga tinggi fasilitas kerja yaitu  150 cm.  Berdasarkan ukuran tersebut  fasilitas  yang  dirancang  sudah ergonomi   karena   menggunakan   penerapan   antropometri   tubuh  pekerja sehingga dapat bekerja dengan nyaman.

Abstract

The innovation of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has opened up new avenues to improve academic skills, especially in improving paraphrasing and reducing plagiarism. This research explores the role of ChatGPT, an AI-based language model developed by OpenAI, in helping university students improve paraphrasing and avoid plagiarism in academic tasks. Using quantitative methods, a survey was conducted among 30 university students to assess their experiences and perceptions of ChatGPT's effectiveness. The results showed that 76.7% of students reported improvement in paraphrasing skills after using ChatGPT, and 46.6% believed that ChatGPT helped reduce plagiarism. However, some respondents remained neutral or sceptical about the effectiveness of this tool. Although the findings suggest that ChatGPT can be a valuable resource in academic writing, this study highlights the need for further refinement of this technology and more comprehensive guidelines for its use. This research provides insights for students and educators in integrating AI tools such as ChatGPT to foster academic integrity and improve reding skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the performance of clean water production at PDAM XYZ. The method used is the Objective Matrix (OMAX). In the formation of the Omax matrix, values are required in the form of actual values, actual scores, productivity values, and descriptions of each ratio. The results of the study show that the Overall Productivity (OP) value shows that the productivity of the XYZ Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) in producing clean water as a whole from 2021 to 2024 has increased and decreased. The highest Overall Productivity (OP) value is in 2022 at 601, where overall the actual score for each ratio is not included in the bad category. The lowest Overall Productivity (OP) value is in 2023, this is because in 2023 for ratio 6, namely about effectiveness, which has an actual score of only 1, it is included in the bad category. After experiencing a decline in productivity, in 2024 the company's overall productivity value increased again. So it can be concluded that the best performance and productivity that occurred during 2021 to 2024 was in 2022, this can be seen from the overall productivity value in 2022 which was 601. Meanwhile, the worst performance and productivity occurred in 2023, this can be seen from the very low overall productivity value in 2023, which was only 388.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Gampong Peunaga Rayeuk Kecamatan Meureubo Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Daerah ini dikenal sebagai Kawasan penghasil buah nipah yang melimpah di Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Masyarakat Gampong Peunaga Rayeuk mayoritas bermata pencaharian petani, salah satunya petani nipah. Akan tetapi, buah nipah yang dipanen umumnya hanya dijual dan dibuat minuman nipah dengan persentase peminat yang masih rendah. Oleh karena itu, Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, tim PKM dari Universitas Teuku Umar memberikan pemberdayaan dan pelatihan tentang cara mengolah buah nipah menjadi manisan nipah yang memiliki nilai jual tinggi dan rasa yang nikmat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui tahapan observasi, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah pemanfaatan buah nipah yang diolah menjadi manisan nipah berwarna yang dapat dijual dan dikonsumsi untuk kesehatan. Dampak positif dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan Masyarakat dan menjadi lebih mandiri dalam meningkatkan ekonomi keluarga

Abstract

This study focuses on the diction analysis found in Adimulia Hotel™s digital brochure. The aim of this study was to identify the main diction style used in digital brochure and to ascertain the figurative meaning associated with each word used within. The diction used in this study is based on Keraf  Theory (2009). Digital brochures are tools for valid data analysis. This study describes the predominant diction style and the definition of each word in the Adimulia Hotel™s digital brochure. The basis for the dominant usage of a term is its meaning, which sets it apart from other wods. The diction that used in digital brochure also influences reader™s interest in what the Adimulia hotel is promoting.

Abstract

The objectives of the current study are threefold: a) to investigate what types of metaphors are used in Arab and Western car advertisements and why they use them, b) to explore how metaphors are used in Arab and Western car advertisements, and c) to explore how cultural attributes are used along with metaphors in Arab and Western car advertisements. The study adopted a descriptive approach through content analysis using three models: cultural (Hofstede, 2005), metaphorical (Lankoff & Johnson, 1980), and contrastive discourse analysis (Farclough's, 2001), approaches to analyze the data. The study sample comprised 30 car advertisements from Holland, France, Germany, Italy, the US, and Arab countries, each with five advertisements published online in 2016. The findings of the study show that car advertisements frequently use metaphorical strategies. In addition, the study revealed differences between Arab and Western advertisements in terms of the employment of cultural attributes. Finally, the study also indicated that even within the Western context, there is a different use of metaphorical strategies with subtle differences.
