Abstract

Universities and other institutions of higher learning frequently require students to complete an English proficiency test before moving on to the next phase of education. Despite the fact that there are a variety of TOEFL tests, the institution is most likely to use an institutional TOEFL test. The same thing happens at the Raden Intan State Islamic University in Lampung, where students must get a minimum TOEFL score to take the thesis examination or graduate. Students from all study programs must acquire a minimum score of 400 on the TOEFL test to be deemed fluent in English. Students' opinions on the usage of the institutional TOEFL as a measure of English competence were examined in this study. Non-English Education study program students were the focus of this study, which surveyed their perceptions on utilizing the institutional TOEFL test. The researchers surveyed 90 students who had taken the TOEFL test at the Language Development Center of UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The researchers sent out a questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire includes five statements to provide a picture of students' perceptions of the TOEFL test. Based on the analysis, the researchers found that many respondents claimed TOEFL could measure English proficiency. Also, they found the test is effective. Most respondents disagree that the institutional TOEFL test measures four basic English skills. They thought the test could not measure the four English skills because it lacked writing and speaking aspects. Most respondents disagree with using the institutional TOEFL as the only English proficiency test since it is too difficult for those who don't use English daily. They thought there must be other English proficiency tests that could be utilized Keywords:

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the contribution of the Neuro Dominance Science (NDS) program in improving students' creative communication skills and the completion of six tasks as a result of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework called KKNI, with six (6) tasks of KKNI. This study uses qualitative and quantitative method in analyzing the data. The participants in this study were 50 students of English language and Literature Department, Universitas Negeri Medan that completed NDS workshop as one of the programmed of Creative Innovative Communication (CIC) subject at the fourth Semester. Data was collected through a questionnaire made in the form of a Google form to measure students' creative communication abilities and completion of KKNI assignments. The results of this study indicate that the NDS program has a significant contribution to improving students' creative communication skills. Quantitative data analysis shows an increase in scores on creative communication assessment after students join the NDS program. In addition, the NDS program also assists students in completing the six tasks required by the KKNI, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. This research provides valuable insight into the contribution of the NDS program in improving students' creative communication skills and completing KKNI assignments. The results of this study can be used by policymakers and educators to consider implementing the NDS program in schools as an effort to improve students' skills in creative communication and achievement of KKNI tasks.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to describe the quality assurance system in higher education. The type of research is qualitative research with literature study. Data collection is done by searching for sources and constructing them from various sources such as books, journals and research that has already been carried out. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, data triangulation, member checking and auditing techniques were used, as well as data analysis techniques according to Miles & Huberman, namely data reduction, data display and conclusions. The research findings are that educational institutions need to carry out quality assurance processes both internally and externally. Responsibility for the quality of higher education is completely handed over to the university concerned. To become an effective higher education institution, it can utilize all the resources it has, such as lecturers as teaching staff and educational staff who are elements of higher education human resources; in addition to material resources, machines including facilities and energy, money, and information including data owned by universities. Efforts to develop the quality of HEIs are carried out by increasing student capacity directed towards relevant fields, increasing link and match in terms of abilities and skills, as well as improving the quality of lecturers. Monitoring and evaluation must be carried out as well as the stages of determination, implementation, evaluation, control and improvement (PPEPP) in implementing quality assurance, so that it does not deviate from the goals that have been set and can provide the best results for parents, students, and most importantly the world market. work both domestically and abroad.

Abstract

Character-based learning planning is material or tools that teachers must prepare when they want to carry out the teaching and learning process, here the teacher emphasizes more on the affective aspects and character values that are planned to be realized. The purpose of this study is to explain the importance of character-based learning planning in the 21st century, because currently there are still many lessons that do not prioritize character. Researchers used quantitative methods by using google form as a survey tool addressed to teachers in several schools in Tanah Datar. The result of this research is to know that character-based learning in the era of increasingly sophisticated technology is still too little applied, because learning is still adrift to general knowledge that does not prioritize character. The conclusion of this research is that character-based learning in the 21st century really needs to be applied in order to produce students who have good morals. The limitation of this research is that character-based learning materials are only contained in a few subjects, researchers hope that future researchers can develop it further.

Abstract

This study is about translation strategies for translating English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The strategies applied refer to Vinay and Dalbenet Theory, which consists of Direct (Borrowing, Calque, Literal, and Transposition) and Oblique methods (Modulation, Equivalent, and Adaptation). This study aims to determine the strategies students apply when translating ESP texts and how the students' educational backgrounds impact this process. Descriptive qualitative was applied as the methodology using tests and interviews to collect the data. The result showed that 6 of 7 translation strategies are implemented by translators. To implement direct translation, it has applied all strategies: borrowing, calque, literal translation, and transposition strategies. Thus, oblique strategies are used in equivalent and adaptation strategies, but modulation strategies did not exist from the target language. The next issue is that the background significantly influences the accuracy of word choice in the target language. Some translators acknowledge needing help translating vocabulary that seems more common than some terminology they frequently encounter when taking the classes.

The teacher's role is important in nurturing to develop students' knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The role of teachers who provide knowledge as access to information is now aided by digital sophistication. In this case, teachers must be able to control technology for learning to students. The learning process must of course be evaluated so that the weaknesses and strengths in learning can be identified. Purpose This study aims to evaluate the effect of teacher training in the use of learning technology. This evaluation will provide an overview of the effectiveness of the training in improving teachers' understanding of learning technology. In addition, it assesses the impact that the use of technology has on student learning outcomes. Method. The method used in this research is quantitative method. Data collection is done by distributing questionnaires to teachers. Making statements related to evaluating the effect of teacher training in the use of learning technology. This statement is loaded in google from which will be processed through the SPSS application. The data obtained can be tested by proving the statements listed on Google from adjusted through facts that often occur in the world of education. Results. The results of this study suggest that evaluating the impact of teacher training can provide a basis for developing a sustainable training curriculum. The role of technology in education will change the way students learn and also the learning outcomes. This evaluation will give teachers an idea of how much students develop after the use of technology. Conclusion The conclusion of this study is that evaluation of teachers in the use of technology is also needed. Evaluation of the effect of teacher training on the use of learning technology is an assessment process to measure the extent to which training has an impact on teachers' ability to use technology. The difference in teachers' perspectives on technology also affects how much technology is used in learning. Teachers will also be a forum for the advancement of education. So that it can expand the application of technology in education.
