Abstract

Children are a vulnerable group in disasters due to their limited physical strength, susceptibility to illness, and emotional instability. Reducing vulnerability is essential for protecting children during disasters, and one crucial factor in their preparedness is disaster education. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of flood disaster preparedness training on improving elementary school students’ preparedness in dealing with flash floods. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed, involving 50 students from SDN 23 Guguak Randah. The intervention consisted of a 60-minute training session using lectures, discussions, videos, and disaster simulations. Disaster education plays a significant role in raising children's awareness about disasters and their risk perception. Students’ knowledge was assessed using a validated 10-item questionnaire before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 69.20 (SD = 17.71) before training to 80.40 (SD = 15.53) after training (z = 4.089, p < .0001). These findings demonstrate that flood preparedness training significantly enhances students’ knowledge and awareness of disaster preparedness. Disaster education programs for children have been considered an innovative approach to disaster risk reduction The use of lecture-based methods, complemented by simulations, can significantly improve students' comprehension of the concepts and materials being taught. Routine implementation of disaster preparedness programs in schools, in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), is recommended to strengthen children’s resilience and readiness for future disasters.

Before and after therapy, adolescents were given the Agression Questionaire (AQ) questionnaire to measure the aggressive behavior of adolescents. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. The results show that there were significant changes in the aggressive behavior of adolescents before and after REBT-AT. Significant changes were found in the physical aggression and hostility. However, in verbal aggression and anger there were no significant changes. Based on the results, REBT-AT has not reduced all components of adolescent aggressive behavior. Ideally, to get maximum results, therapy should be given for 4 weeks for REBT and 4 weeks for AT. Therefore, it needs further evaluation for 8 weeks to find out the results of the program to reduce aggressive behavior.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly among children under five years of age. One of the main causes of stunting is the lack of understanding and practice of balanced nutrition, especially among pregnant women and mothers with toddlers. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge of pregnant women regarding balanced nutrition as an effort to prevent stunting. The implementation stages include preparation, execution, and monitoring and evaluation. The community service activity was carried out on August 27, 2025, in the working area of Bungus Health Center, Padang. The participants in the community service were 10 pregnant women. The activity lasted for 120 minutes, including a pre-test on pregnant women's knowledge of nutrition and pregnancy, blood sugar and hemoglobin tests to identify pregnancy complications, providing education on nutrition during pregnancy, and a post-test. The mean knowledge score increased from 7.10 before the intervention to 8.70 after the intervention. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test showed a significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.005). These results indicate the need for periodic health education for pregnant women during antenatal visits, especially regarding pregnancy care related to meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy.
