Abstract

The increasing adoption of digital beauty technology through Virtual Try-On (VTO) platforms powered by artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) necessitates a precise understanding of user preferences. This study aims to model user responses to VTO features using Item Response Theory (IRT), specifically the Graded Response Model (GRM) for ordinal-scale items and the Nominal Response Model (NRM) for non-ordinal categorical items. A total of 15 items were analyzed using GRM to assess users’ perceptions of AI accuracy, feature convenience, and visual satisfaction. Additionally, five non-ordinal items were modeled using NRM to capture explicit preferences for specific VTO functionalities, such as digital interaction and visual simulation. The results show that the average user preference score was 3.02 out of 5 (SD = 1.03), while the total preference score averaged 60 out of 100 (SD = 10.7), with response distributions approximately normal (skewness = 0.12; kurtosis = -0.24). The item information curves from the GRM indicated that several items contributed high information (above 2.0), effectively differentiating users within the −1 to +1 ability range. In the NRM analysis, the “real-time color visualization feature” exhibited the highest utility parameter (c = 1.98), indicating a strong user preference for this feature. The integration of GRM and NRM enables a more nuanced and flexible mapping of user preferences. This study presents a novel psychometric approach by combining GRM and NRM within a single VTO context to simultaneously capture both ordinal and nominal dimensions of user experience, which has not been extensively explored in prior research. These findings provide meaningful insights for the development of adaptive, personalized, and intelligent AI-based VTO systems to enhance the quality of user experience in digital beauty applications.

Abstract

This study developed a digital instrument to assess professional bridal bun practices, employing a method that evaluates multiple competencies simultaneously and is grounded in the preservation of Indonesian family cultural values. The study involved 120 participants, including cosmetology graduates and freelance makeup artists, who piloted a 30-item instrument that covered technical proficiency, visual aesthetics, and cultural values. The analysis demonstrated how effectively questions differentiated between different skill levels, with test scores indicating that the tool performed well in terms of both difficulty and quality. Expert reviews confirmed that the tool could fully measure technical, cultural, and ethical aspects of bridal hairstyling and that it helps share Indonesian family values. The finalized digital tool can serve educational and examination purposes in vocational schools. Overall, this study introduces a culturally relevant and accessible assessment instrument for vocational cosmetology, establishing competency standards, ensuring quality assurance, and preserving local traditions within the contemporary beauty sector. The primary limitations include a small participant pool and a focus on Indonesian values, necessitating further research with a broader cultural and temporal scope.

Abstract

This article criticism from internal and external sources on digital historical evidence in the form of YouTube videos. These videos complement printed historical evidence, including manuscripts, magazines, contemporary newspapers, and paintings, on Javanese traditional wedding ceremony traditions, especially those of the Yogyakarta and Surakarta Kratons. The research method employs the historical method, which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. It primarily focuses on digital historical source criticism and is conducted through documentation studies utilizing YouTube and thematic coding analysis. This analysis is applied to data on traditional wedding ceremonies performed outside palace walls by government officials of the Republic of Indonesia at their children's weddings. The study's results show: (a) Difficulty in finding printed sources can be supplemented with digital historical sources, such as YouTube videos covering Javanese traditional wedding ceremonies. (b) Internal criticism encompasses evaluating the suitability of the event's broadcast time and date, the appropriateness of the title and content in photos, videos, or text, the validity and authenticity of the archives, and the video's purpose. (c) External criticism involves assessing the creator's account credibility, witnesses, sources, and reference materials in the videos. Videos are stored as historical evidence using links and metadata, including keyword specifications, synonyms, video title, channel name, and publication date, so the same video can be found again
