Abstract

Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world and the third leading cause of disability, with incidence and prevalence increasing significantly. In Indonesia, the prevalence of stroke is high, mainly due to the lack of control of risk factors and slow adaptation to a healthy lifestyle after the attack. Stress is identified as one of the main factors that aggravate the physical condition and hinder the recovery process in stroke survivors. This community service aims to provide education about the healing environment method as an effort to control stress to prevent recurrent attacks in stroke survivors in Bangli Regency, Bali. This activity was carried out from December 2023 to January 2024, with a community service method in the form of education and demonstration for three days on how to create a healing environment that includes aspects of safety, physical and psychological comfort, social support, access to nature, art, music, and privacy which was attended by 20 stroke survivors. Results showed that the majority of participants had high blood pressure (80%) and normal blood glucose (85%). The increase in participants' knowledge about the healing environment was reflected in the pre-test results which showed 75% of participants had low knowledge, while the post-test showed an increase in sufficient knowledge in 80% of participants. This education helped participants recognize the factors that cause stress and manage stress effectively. The conclusion of this activity shows that the healing environment method can help reduce stress, accelerate recovery, and prevent recurrent stroke attacks. Thus, this method can improve the overall quality of life of stroke patients. The program emphasized the importance of a holistic approach that includes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects to optimize the recovery of stroke patients and prevent further complications.

Abstract

Surgery often causes anxiety in patients. Preoperative anxiety may cause delays of surgery due to physiological and psychological changes experienced by the patient. Preoperative anxiety is influenced by age, gender, education level, physical condition, and experience. The research objective was to analyze the influence of factors responsible for preoperative anxiety in patients at the Surgical Polyclinic of Sanglah General Hospital, Denpasar, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research applied cross sectional design with 98 respondents who were selected by consecutive sampling method. Data were collected using the APAIS. Bivariate data analysis was performed using non-parametric Pearson’s chi-squared test and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. All patients experienced preoperative anxiety, most of which were in the moderate category (41.8%). Factors responsible for preoperative anxiety in patients at the Surgical Polyclinic of Sanglah General Hospital, Denpasar, during the COVID-19 pandemic were gender (p = 0.043, α = 0.05), education (p = 0.000, α = 0.05), and experience (p = 0.006, α = 0.05). The most dominant factor was experience with an odds ratio of 4.806. The influence of the three factors was 75.4% and the remaining 24.6% was influenced by other factors. Most respondents expressed their anxiety with fear and curiosity about surgical procedure so it is important for nurses to provide education about the surgery in order to reduce the level of preoperative anxiety in patients, especially female patients with lower levels of educational attainment who have never undergone surgery.

Abstract

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability, requiring continuous rehabilitative interventions. This community service program aimed to provide education and training on fan therapy as a non-pharmacological approach to help reduce spasticity and improve coordination in stroke survivors. The activity was conducted at the Amaranee Foundation in Bali, involving stroke survivors as participants. Initial assessments showed that the majority of participants had high blood pressure (64%) and normal blood glucose levels (71%). Before the educational session, most participants had a low level of knowledge (89.2%), but after the fan therapy education and practical demonstration, there was a significant improvement, with 64.2% reaching a moderate level and 35.8% achieving a high level of knowledge. Fan therapy was chosen for its ease of implementation, absence of side effects, and potential for independent application. Participants demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the program and were able to practice basic fan therapy techniques to reduce muscle stiffness and enhance motor coordination. This program contributed positively to community-based rehabilitation efforts, particularly for stroke survivors in need of simple yet effective approaches. Fan therapy education is considered relevant as a sustainable recovery intervention within community settings.

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability that results in decreased patients’ ability to perform daily activities. Physical impairments such as hemiparesis, reduced mobility, and changes in cognitive function contribute to the low level of independence among post-stroke patients. This study aimed to describe the level of independence of post-stroke patients at the Neurology Outpatient Clinic of RSUD Tabanan. This research was a quantitative study with a descriptive design, involving 68 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Barthel Index to assess the level of independence in activities of daily living (ADL). Data analysis was conducted using univariate descriptive analysis. The results showed that the majority of post-stroke patients were in the category of mild dependence, with 24 respondents (35.3%), followed by moderate dependence in 17 respondents (25%), full independence in 15 respondents (22.1%), total dependence in 7 respondents (10.3%), and severe dependence in 5 respondents (7.4%). The predominance of dependency among post-stroke patients may be attributed to motor impairments, limited mobility, and suboptimal recovery processes. However, factors such as duration since stroke onset, severity of the condition, consistency of rehabilitation, family support, and access to rehabilitation services may play an important role in improving patients’ ability to perform daily activities independently

Abstract

Early detection of mental health problems among adolescents has become an important issue, especially amid the increasing prevalence of depression and anxiety that may lead to Academic Burnout Syndrome (ABS). This study aimed to determine the relationship between early detection of mental health and Academic Burnout Syndrome among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar, as well as to identify the direction and strength of the correlation. A quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The study was conducted from November 10 to 19, 2024, involving 220 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using mental health and academic burnout syndrome questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that 177 respondents (80.5%) were indicated to have mental health problems, with complaints such as anxiety, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Most students were categorized as having a low level of Academic Burnout Syndrome (59.5%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between early detection of mental health and Academic Burnout Syndrome (p-value = 0.001) with a correlation coefficient of -0.383, indicating a weak negative correlation. This means that the better adolescents are at recognizing their mental health conditions early, the lower their risk of experiencing academic burnout. Therefore, schools are encouraged to conduct routine mental health screenings and provide mental health education with support from teachers and parents as a preventive effort against Academic Burnout Syndrome
