Abstract

When it comes to teaching and learning English, teachers and students face several challenges, particularly in terms of fatigue and uncertainty. As a result of this situation, English teachers must emphasize their concerns about using appropriate resources in English subjects in schools and colleges, such as using online learning resources to increase students' motivation to learn EFL. This present study is aimed at: (1) exploring the teaching materials, media, methods, strategies, teaching procedures/learning activities, and the assessments used in online learning resources to increase students’ motivation in EFL learning, and (2) investigating information in terms of students’ motivation documented with literature data serving as the primary source of information. While, the type of research was content analysis. The results show that through the use of relevant and engaging content, combined with technology-based tools and a student-centered approach, a dynamic learning environment is created. Therefore, the adaptability of assessments and learning activities to students' needs further supports their language development, fostering motivation and achievement in English language learning. Overall, a holistic approach that integrates these elements proves to be highly effective in promoting English proficiency through online resources.

Abstract

Dongeng memiliki peran besar dalam pengembangan literasi anak dan karakter anak, khususnya pada usia dini. Namun, di era gawai saat ini, eksistensi dongeng sebagai pendidikan pada anak usia dini perlu dipertanyakan. Metode dalam penelitian adalah Kuantitatif dengan metode surve melalui kuesioner. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 37 orangtua (ibu) yang memiliki anak berusia 4-6 tahun dan sudah masuk dalam Taman Kanak-kanak di Kecamatan Tambang, Kabupaten Kampar, Provinsi Riau. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 78% para orangtua jarang melakukan aktivitas mendongeng untuk anaknya, 65% memiliki sasaran dan tujuan utama dalam aktivitas mendongeng, 73% memberikan gawai sebagai pengganti aktivitas mendongeng sebelum tidur anaknya, dan anak-anak mereka responsive dan kritis ketika orangtuanya mendongeng pada kategori sering hanya berjumlah 8%. Dengan demikian, disimpulkan bahwa orangtua sudah jarang melakukan aktivitas mendongeng untuk anaknya karena kesibukan dan minimnya pengetahuan dan literature mereka pada dongeng.

Abstract

Reading is a critical skill that contributes significantly to academic success and personal growth, especially at the High School level. Therefore, this study explores the relationship between Reading Motivation, Reading Comprehension, and Online Humorous Reading Content among high school pupils. Leveraging a correlational design and quantitative research methods, data was collected from 186 eleventh grade pupils through questionnaires and tests. Statistical analysis, including Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA), was used to test the relationship between variables. Findings showed a significant effect of Reading Motivation on Reading Comprehension, with Online Humorous Reading Content as a moderating variable since the acceptance of alternate hypotheses (Ha) had been obtained. Specifically, Online Humorous Reading Content was found to increase pupils’ interest in reading and reduce barriers to reading comprehension, thus improving overall reading performance. This study underscores the importance of incorporating entertaining reading materials into the curriculum to foster engagement and improve learning outcomes. Undeniably, these findings contribute valuable insights for educators aiming to improve reading skills and create a stimulating learning environment in high school settings.

Abstract

As technology becomes an integral part of education, the use of mobile apps offers interactive learning opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom methods. Therefore, this study explores the impact of the U-Dictionary app in improving English Reading Skills among senior high school students at SMAN 1 Rambah. A quasi-experimental design was used, involving an experimental group that used the U-Dictionary app and a control group that followed conventional reading practices. Pretest and posttest assessments were conducted to measure the improvement in reading Skills. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test via SPSS 25. The findings show a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group (p < 0.05), with a moderate effect size, indicating that the U-Dictionary application has a positive impact on students’ Reading Skills and it enhance motivation and academic achievement. The findings highlight U-Dictionary's interactive features, which offer immediate feedback and facilitate vocabulary acquisition, making the learning process engaging. The study concludes by recommending the incorporation of such technologies in language curricula to create dynamic learning environments that prepare students for future academic and professional challenges. The results of this study advocate the adoption of technology-enhanced strategies in educational settings to foster better learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to highlight and evaluate the issues at an in-depth level to provide different solutions that are expected to be a reflection for the government, especially the Ministry of Education and Culture, to be able to improve the implementation and monitoring of the Kampus Mengajar Program. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, and the data were collected from a focus group discussion with students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Lancang Kuning, then the data was analyzed descriptively. The results highlight some problems in the implementation of the Kampus Merdeka Program. These included a lack of coordination and clear communication between stakeholders, which led to confusion among students and schools, uneven targeting of schools, inadequate support for the program, and credit conversion, resulting in frustration and challenges. Addressing these issues, the study recommended increased socialization of the program, transparency in credit equivalency, and more accurate school data collection. In conclusion, this research offers several solutions that are expected to reflect the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) that the Kampus Mengajar Program faces various challenges in its implementation, which need to be addressed for the program to effectively meet its goal of improving education in the 3T areas.
