Abstract

The current research has primary objective that is to assess the effect of implementing the Inquiry-Based Learning Model in enhancing students' academic performance in the field of Science at SMA Smart Indonesia. The Inquiry-Based Learning Model promotes proactive student engagement in exploring, gathering, and interpreting information through independent investigation. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design encompassing pre-test and post-test phases. The participants were selected randomly via a simple random sampling technique. The acquired data underwent analysis using the N-Gain method (T-test). The outcomes revealed a noticeable improvement in the academic performance of students in the experimental group who were exposed to the Inquiry-Based Learning Model, particularly in the context of the human respiratory system. Furthermore, the null hypothesis (H0) was invalidated, as was proven by the 2-tailed Significance value of 0.000 that was smaller than 0.05. This discovery underscores the substantial positive impact of applying the Inquiry-Based Learning Model on enhancing students' academic achievements when compared to conventional teaching methods employed in the control group. In conclusion, this study highlights the significant potential of integrating the Inquiry-Based Learning Model into the Natural Science curriculum at the secondary school level, which could potentially elevate the standard of education and overall student learning accomplishments.

Abstract

Students in Indonesia who learn English as a Foreign Language (EFL) encounter problems in learning how to write in English. Not a novel problem in the least, but the more connected the world is becoming due to the availability of information and communication technologies (ICT). This study aims to address the need to improve the generation’s English skills, lest they are left behind the moving era. This study is a classroom action research (CAR), using a test, observation, field note, and interviews as the research instruments. Twenty-nine middle school students were taught to produce descriptive texts using the approach of an educational game called Bits and Pieces. The results showed that the game improved students’ average scores in writing descriptive text from 70.12 (cycle I) to 79.75 (cycle II) as students’ were unanimously interested in the strategy, much more so than traditional approaches.

Abstract

Peningkatan perhatian global terhadap isu lingkungan dan kebutuhan mendesak untuk mengurangi emisi gas rumah kaca telah menyoroti pentingnya mengurangi ketergantungan pada bahan bakar fosil, terutama dalam sektor transportasi. Adapun, penelitian ini menyoroti potensi konversi kendaraan berbahan bakar minyak ke motor listrik, dengan fokus pada dinamo Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) sebagai solusi yang ramah lingkungan dan efisien. Motor listrik, terutama yang menggunakan dinamo Brushless Direct Current (BLDC), menawarkan keuntungan dalam hal efisiensi energi dan pengurangan emisi. Dinamo BLDC, yang mengubah energi listrik dari baterai menjadi gerakan mekanis tanpa memerlukan sikat karbon, menunjukkan efisiensi tinggi dan daya tahan yang baik. Namun, tantangan dalam perancangan dinamo BLDC meliputi pemilihan material yang tepat, integrasi dengan sistem konversi, serta aspek keamanan, pemeliharaan, dan biaya produksi. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi dan mengatasi tantangan tersebut melalui desain yang komprehensif, melibatkan pemilihan material, perancangan komponen seperti stator dan rotor, serta integrasi sistem wiring. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa desain dinamo BLDC yang baik dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan keandalan motor listrik, mendukung transisi menuju teknologi yang lebih ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan dalam sektor transportasi.

Abstract

This research explores innovation in learning through the integration of information technology, particularly e-modules for teaching animal structure laboratories using Canva. Using an R&D approach with the 4-D development model, the study involved 3 validators and 17 students at Lancang Kuning University. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively, indicating high levels of validity for subject matter, language, and media experts. Student responses to the e-module were also very positive. The research findings indicate that the Animal Structure Laboratory E-Module created with Canva is highly valid and suitable for use in learning, reinforcing the use of technology in an educational context.

Abstract

Jobsheet is a set of documents that contain instructions or guidelines for carrying out a specific task or job, usually in the context of education or training. Therefore, this study explores the implementation of English for Engineering (EFE)-based Jobsheets in the Light Vehicle Engineering Expertise Program at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. Aditionally, using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved 38 students and several teachers who are directly involved with EFE Jobsheets. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. At the same time, it was found that the EFE Jobsheets had a positive impact on students' understanding and application of technical English, improving their competencies in terms of both technical and language skills. However, challenges such as students' weak English foundation, inadequate teacher competence, and limited resources were identified. Solutions to these issues include continuous teacher training, development of interactive materials, and collaboration with industry to offer practical experience. In spite of the promising results of the EFE-based Jobsheet implementation, continuous improvements in developing multimedia-based interactive materials and industrial simulations are essential to optimize learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze of the students’ vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade students of SDN 15 Padang Sarai. The research design is descriptive qualitative method. The study sample is 32 students. The result of data analysis showed that vocabulary test can be conducted to young learners to assess students’ vocabulary mastery. The conclusion to the classification of category is poor to very good which mean that vocabulary of the fourth grade of SDN 15 Padang Sarai is in good level for achievement in English lesson in mastering vocabulary. It is found that 41% students at good level, 37% at very good level, 16% is fair, and 6% at poor level. The author suggests that English teacher should have particular techniques to teach vocabulary for example the teacher can use the real object to show the meaning of the words, in order to make the students easier in mastering vocabulary and learning English subject.

Abstract

Community service activities are a form of the Tridharma of Higher Education carried out by the service team at partner institutions, namely Pro Skill Indonesia Health Vocational School located in Perawang. This service aims to improve the pedagogical competence of teachers through Lesson Study activity training. The method used is in the form of material delivery by resource persons and discussions. The training was attended by 12 teachers from various departments in the school. This training consists of a cycle that has three stages, namely planning (plan), implementation (do) and reflection (see). Before delivering the material, the resource person prepares learning tools and media needed in Lesson Study training. Then, the model teacher conducts teaching and learning activities supervised by an observer. After that, the results of the observation are observed and from the findings it can be concluded that the Lesson Study activity training is able to improve teachers' pedagogical competence seen from the professional aspects and teacher discipline in carrying out teaching and learning activities in the classroom.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out by this service team at partner institutions, namely SMA/SMK in Rokanhulu Regency. The purpose of implementing this PKM activity is to improve the quality of learning in class, with socialization and Hypnoteaching learning training methods. The implementation method used is through 3 stages, namely 1) the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and 3) the evaluation stage. Based on the results of data processing, it was found that participants were able to integrate the hypnotic method into their learning process after carrying out this socialization and training activity. This activity had a positive impact on participants before and after it was given, with an average post test score of 82.50 which was very good. Meanwhile, 78% of participants stated that this PKM activity had a positive impact.

Abstract

This community service is "Improving Narrative Text Understanding of Students of Regional Literature and Library Science Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Through Shrinking Strategy". This IbM aims to provide knowledge and skills to students of Regional Literature Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Lancang Kuning University. Language teaching, in this case, Reading Comprehension really needs to be considered and improved because in this era students will be more required to read articles or books in foreign languages. To understand English discourse, there are several strategies that can be done, one of which is 'Shrinking Strategy'. Through this strategy, it is hoped that students of Regional Literature and Library Science Department will find it easier to understand English discourse, especially narrative text types, so that the understanding process becomes more effective and efficient.

Abstract

Dalam upaya meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di SMK Bina Insan Provinsi Riau, tim pengabdi berinisiatif untuk melibatkan diri dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di lembaga mitra, yakni SMK Bina Insan Provinsi Riau di Kecamatan Siak Hulu. Fokus utama kegiatan ini adalah memberikan dukungan dalam pengembangan kompetensi pendidik agar mereka dapat memahami dan mengimplementasikan metode pembelajaran yang lebih efektif. Misi utama yang diemban adalah mengatasi celah pemahaman yang masih ada di antara pendidik, sehingga menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih produktif. Dengan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang metode pembelajaran, diharapkan SMK Bina Insan Provinsi Riau dapat mencapai target pengembangan kompetensi siswa. Analisis situasi yang dilakukan sebelumnya membuktikan bahwa terdapat kekurangan dalam penerapan metode pembelajaran, dan melalui pengabdian ini, siswa dapat memanfaatkan pelatihan yang diberikan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dalam Bahasa Inggris, membawa mereka ke arah peningkatan kompetensi yang diharapkan. Sebagai hasilnya, dari interpretasi temuan melalui kuisioner diasumsikan bahwa siswa tidak hanya memiliki keterampilan membaca yang lebih baik dalam Bahasa Inggris, tetapi juga dibekali dengan keterampilan berpikir kritis, imajinasi, dan rasa ingin tahu yang akan mendukung keberhasilan mereka dalam menghadapi kompleksitas dunia yang semakin terglobalisasi.
