Abstract

This study explores the ethnomathematic elements found in the Tumpeng Parade in Biting Village, Arjasa District. The Tumpeng Parade is part of the community's culture that contains mathematical concepts, such as geometry, patterns, symmetry, and the concept of numbers in the arrangement and presentation of tumpeng. The main objective of this study is to examine how local communities apply mathematical principles passed down through generations in the creation and organization of the Tumpeng Parade. Specifically, the aim of this study is to understand the relationship between culture and mathematics in everyday life. Data for this study were collected through documentation, interviews, and observations using a qualitative descriptive research methodology. The findings of this study are expected to provide an understanding of the mathematical concepts of the Tumpeng Parade and can be used as a contextual learning medium for the younger generation.

Abstract

Knitting activities not only involve elements of manual skills and art but also contain patterns closely related to mathematical concepts, particularly geometric transformations such as reflection, rotation, translation, and dilation. Therefore, this study intends to explain how the activity of knitting visual-based motifs can help understand the concept of geometric transformation. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach. Two knowledgeable lecturers verified the instrument the researchers developed through interview instructions and observations. The study's results reveal that reflection is the most commonly utilized transformation in the knitting process. This reflection appears in the form of symmetrical patterns, both with respect to the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal axes. In addition to reflection, the resulting patterns also show rotation with a specific center point, shifts (translations) in the repeating motifs, and changes in size (dilation) in several parts of the design. Visual strategies used in designing motifs include dividing the plane into certain parts to arrange the pattern in a balanced manner, determining a reference point as the center of rotation or enlargement, and using a grid-like arrangement to maintain the regularity of the shape. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that knitting motifs is an activity that emphasizes aesthetic aspects and provides an in-depth learning experience regarding the concept of geometric transformation. We can use this activity as a fun, alternative, and meaningful medium to understand geometry in a real and contextual way.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' understanding of the concept of congruence and congruence through the design of Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) based on folklore. The research subjects were students of grade VIII at Ahlul Irfan Junior High School. Data were collected through observation, interviews, comprehension tests, and documentation during the learning process. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results showed that students with high ability were able to meet all indicators of understanding, such as restating concepts, categorizing objects, giving examples and non- examples, using various mathematical representations, choosing the right procedures, and applying concepts in problem solving. In contrast, students with low ability were only able to fulfill two indicators, namely restating concepts and categorizing objects based on certain characteristics, while they were not able to use representations, procedures, and logical reasoning in problem solving. This study reinforces the importance of using local cultural contexts in mathematics learning to address misconceptions and increase student engagement. Teachers are recommended to use folklore-based HLT as a contextual and interesting learning media, with special attention to assisting low ability students.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to identify and describe the characteristics of dyscalculia in seventh-grade students with physical disabilities at SLB-BCD YPAC Jember. Students with physical disabilities often face dual challenges, namely physical limitations and potential specific learning difficulties such as dyscalculia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzed data from mathematics exam results, in-depth interviews with accompanying teachers, and classroom observations. The subjects were two students with physical disabilities who showed indications of learning difficulties in mathematics. The results showed clear manifestations of dyscalculia characteristics in both subjects. The main findings include: (1) difficulties in comparing and ordering numbers (numerical aspect); (2) weaknesses in visual-spatial perception for recognizing geometric shapes (geometric aspect); (3) procedural errors in basic arithmetic operations such as subtraction involving the concepts of place value and borrowing; and (4) difficulties in applying mathematical concepts to practical word problems. The conclusion of this study confirms that students with physical disabilities can exhibit complex dyscalculia profiles, which require individually tailored assessment strategies and learning interventions.

Abstract

Anxiety is one of the psychological disorders that can occur among third-trimester pregnant. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy represents a potential intervention for alleviating anxiety. This research aimed to determine the impact of this therapy on anxiety levels in expectant mothersin the third trimester. This study is a pre-experimental study with a one-group pre and post- test design. Thesample used was 28 pregnant women in the third trimester chosen through a purposive sampling technique. The variables studied were anxiety level in facing childbirth and progressive muscle relaxation. The measuring instruments used were the SOP progressive muscle relaxation and the PerinatalAnxiety Screening Scale (PASS) questionnaire. The hypothesis test used was Wilcoxon in IBMSPSS Statistic 26.Prior to the intervention, the majority of respondents (71.4%, n=20) reported experiencing moderate anxiety. Following the intervention, a substantial shift was observed, with nearly all respondents (89.3%, n=25) exhibiting mild anxiety. There was a decrease in anxiety scores from 24.61 to 15.5. Based on the Wilcoxon analysis, therewas an effect of progressive muscle relaxation on anxiety in facing childbirth with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (<0.05).The efficacy of progressive muscle relaxation in alleviating childbirth-related anxiety among pregnant women has been conclusively demonstrated. Each progressive muscle relaxation movement provides a relaxing effect onevery muscle in the body. Pregnant women can apply this therapy independently to reduce anxiety.

Abstract

This research attempts to determine student learning results through the utilization of mathematical concepts and pirates vs. echinomonster props. This study is a qualitative, descriptive research project. The subject of this lesson is algebra. The study's subjects were five female students from SMP Al Kholili Kalisat Jember's class VII for the 2023–2024 academic year. The procedures of tests and interviews are employed in this research to collect data. Strategies for data analysis in this study are based on looking at how students tackle algebraic problems. The results showed that kids could solve algebraic problems with pirates vs. echinomonster props. The employment of pirates vs. echinomonster algebra props has been shown to improve students' mathematical learning outcomes by 1.2%, according to the study's findings.

Abstract

Auditorium Pesantren Baitul Arqom Balung is one of the cottage buildings that is quite interesting to research. This research uses qualitative research with an entographic approach design. The purpose of this research is to describe the ethnomathematics study of the Auditorium building to explore information about the concept of geometry in the building. The data in this study were obtained from observation and documentation. The results of the study are the relationship between the mathematical concept of introducing geometric shapes in the Auditorium building of the Baitul Arqom Balung Islamic Boarding School. In the study of ethnomathematics exploration on the shape of the Auditorium building, there is a form of geomtery which is part of mathematics material, namely the geometry of flat shapes, namely kites, equilateral triangles, isosceles trapezoids, circles, hexagons and rhombuses. The concept of wake transformation is used in the arrangement of ornaments. therefore, the Auditorium of Baitul Arqom Balung Islamic Boarding School can be used as a source of learning and insight into the concept of geomtery.
