Abstract

This study is about the speech function used in the 2024 Indonesian presidential candidate debates. The purpose of this study is to find out the types and the meaning of speech function and to differentiate and similarities in the speech function in Indonesian 2024 presidential candidate debates based on Halliday (2024) classification of speech function. Qualitative research design is used to analyze the data. This research analyzed speech functions in the fifth Indonesian presidential election debate held on February 4, 2024. Data were sourced from KompasTV Sukabumi’s official YouTube channel and underwent data condensation before analysis. A total of 84 clauses were analyzed, with Anies Baswedan producing 36, while Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo each uttered 24. The result showed 84 utterances identified as speech function. The number of speeches delivered by candidate Anies Baswedan’s was 36 utterances, Prabowo Subianto’s was 24 utterances, and Ganjar Pranowo’s was 24 utterances. The most frequently used speech functions are Statement, Offer, Question, and Command.

Abstract

Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) memiliki peran strategis dalam perekonomian Indonesia, termasuk di Kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Namun, daya saing UMKM sering terkendala oleh kurangnya pemenuhan standar mutu, khususnya terkait kehalalan produk. Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) ini bertujuan meningkatkan daya saing UMKM dengan menyusun manual halal yang sistematis dan aplikatif. Program ini diawali dengan identifikasi kebutuhan UMKM terkait standar halal, dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan penyusunan manual halal, serta pendampingan implementasi hingga proses sertifikasi. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pendekatan partisipatif melalui lokakarya, diskusi kelompok terfokus, dan bimbingan teknis secara intensif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penyusunan manual halal tidak hanya meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pelaku UMKM dalam memenuhi persyaratan halal, tetapi juga mempercepat proses pengajuan sertifikasi halal. Selain itu, implementasi manual halal mendorong peningkatan kepercayaan konsumen terhadap produk UMKM dan memperluas akses pasar lokal maupun global. Dengan penyusunan manual halal yang efektif, program ini memberikan dampak signifikan dalam penguatan daya saing UMKM, mendukung keberlanjutan usaha, serta mempromosikan Lombok Tengah sebagai kawasan yang unggul dalam produk halal. Program ini menjadi model yang dapat direplikasi untuk pengembangan UMKM di wilayah lain dengan karakteristik serupa.

Abstract

Speaking skill has been taught in every part educational institutes. This shows the importance of having good communication skill, especially in English. Teachers play very important roles in achieving the success of the students to use their oral language of English. Somehow, teachers often find difficulties in teaching such speaking skill. To overcome the teacher’s difficulty of finding the proper teaching techniques, Out-Class Language Learning is considered as an appropriate alternative strategy to teach speaking skill. It proposed great opportunities and rewards to both students and teachers. It gives many benefits in terms of fun, enjoyment, personal development, motivation and confidence. This article tries to describe and elaborate the concept of using Out-Class Language Learning to teach speaking skill. Presentation, Practice, and Production (PPP) technique is used to compare the OCLL technique.
