Abstract

The rising incidence of suicide among students highlights the urgent need to address mental health issues within this group. The primary challenges are that many students hesitate to seek professional help and are unwilling to speak up about their condition. Self-disclosure is one of the factors that can help students deal with mental health problems. This study aims to determine the factors that influence undergraduate students with mental disorders (MDGJ) to do self-disclosure. This study is a qualitative study. The participants in this study were 9 students who were willing to do follow-up interviews after screening. The data collection technique used was semi-structured interviews. Data analysis used thematic analysis. The results of the study found that there were two factors that influenced MDGJ self-disclosure, namely inhibiting and supporting factors. Inhibiting factors consist of family neglect and cognitive distortion, while supporting factors consist of peer support and attempts to seek help. The implication of this study is to provide interventions, such as forming peer counsellors.

Abstract

Children in conflict with the law who undergo rehabilitation in the Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) face not only physical confinement but also serious psychological pressure. One of the most common psychological conditions that emerges prior to their release is anxiety, which is triggered by various factors such as loss of self-control, fear of social rejection, and uncertainty about the future. Without appropriate intervention, this anxiety may hinder the process of adaptation and social reintegration after release. Therefore, understanding the psychological condition of juvenile inmates—particularly during the transition period toward freedom—is essential. This study aims to describe the causes, forms, responses, and impacts of anxiety experienced by juvenile inmates prior to release at LPKA Class I A Kupang. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The study population consisted of 38 juvenile inmates, from which five were selected as primary informants using purposive sampling based on specific inclusion criteria, such as age and readiness for release. In addition, two rehabilitation officers were interviewed as triangulation informants to strengthen data validity and provide additional perspectives. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the anxiety experienced by juvenile inmates before release is influenced by young age, low educational background, past traumatic experiences, weak self-concept, and introverted personality types. The most dominant form of anxiety found was neurotic anxiety. The most common response was moderate anxiety, characterized by behavioral and emotional symptoms such as restlessness, sleep disturbances, and excessive worry about the future. The most visible impact was mood-related symptoms, including irritability and social withdrawal. In conclusion, the most dominant cause of anxiety was the lack of knowledge and experience in preparing for the future, worsened by gender-related tendencies in boys to suppress emotions and their generally lower level of formal education. Therefore, further research and rehabilitation programs should focus on enhancing children's capacity through life skills training, sustained emotional support, and the provision of concrete information on post-release educational and employment opportunities to better equip juvenile inmates for reintegration into society.

Abstract

This study contributes by integrating psychological and pharmacological perspectives in understanding juvenile murderers. This is a comparative study that compares DTP and Pb between juvenile murderers and non-criminal juveniles. The participants were 7 juvenile murderers and 7 non-criminal juveniles. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy was used to examine Pb levels in hair. A modified Paulhus and William DTP questionnaire was applied to all participants. Qualitative data used interview and drawing test on juvenile murderers. Quantitative data on murderous and non-criminal juveniles for DTP used T Test and Pb were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U test. Correlation between DTP and Pb used Pearson Correlation. Qualitative analyzed used thematic content analysis. Results revealed that there are has significant differences on Pb between JM and NCM. Pb levels in juvenile murderers were higher than those in noncriminal ones. There is no difference between juvenile murderers and noncriminal ones, according to DTP. However, descriptive statistics revealed that adolescent murderers typically had higher DTP than noncriminal ones. Based on the structural interview and psychological drawing test, juvenile murderers tend to have DTP characteristics. Spearman correlation showed that there was no correlation between Pb and DTP noncriminal adolescents. Further research is needed with more precise and comprehensive methods to find out the causes of teenagers committing murder, one of them is qualitative approach. Integration with pharmaceuticals remains necessary because juvenile murder cannot be explained solely by a psychological approach.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the tendency of Callous Unemotional (CU) traits in early adolescents based on perceptions of parental parenting styles: authoritarian, democratic, and permissive. A comparative cross-sectional design was used. A sample of 236 junior high school students in Pati Regency was selected using cluster random sampling. The research instruments were the Callous Unemotional Traits Scale and the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). The results showed significant differences in the tendency of CU traits based on parenting style type (p < 0.05). Authoritarian parenting was associated with higher levels of CU traits, while democratic parenting resulted in lower levels. Permissive parenting showed variable results. These results support the theory that tight control and lack of autonomy can hinder children's emotional development. Practical implications highlight the importance of positive parenting styles in preventing the development of CU traits in adolescents.
