Abstract

The 2013 Curriculum System requires students to play an active role in the learning process at school and study independently. So it is necessary to have learning media that can help students understand chemistry learning. Chemistry is a natural science that is both a product and a concept so that learning can be done through practicum activities. Practicum activities require a device as a guide in scientific work called a practical guidebook. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, which describes descriptively the results of the analysis carried out. The stages are as follows: the interview stage was conducted with Chemistry subject teachers to obtain data in the form of the use of practicum instructions that have been used so far and hopes for improvement. The second stage of the analysis was carried out using a questionnaire given to students to see how the practicum teaching and learning process was doing at school so far. This research involved students of class XI IPA Al-Azhar Private High School Medan. Based on the results of the research and discussion that have been described, it is concluded that the chemistry practicum guide that has been used so far at Madrasah Aliyah Al Washliyah Kedaisianam has not met the criteria. In the implementation of chemistry practicum students have not used a special practicum module, but only used the modules available in the package book

Abstract

This research aims to describe teachers' needs for HOTS-based assessment instruments that can be used in evaluating student learning outcomes in class X SMA. Needs analysis is carried out based on the first stage of the ADDIE model, namely (Analyst). The methods used in this research are survey and interview methods. The participants in this research were 5 chemistry teachers from 5 schools in Medan City. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire with qualitative data type. The research results were analyzed descriptively and obtained data that the assessment instruments often used by teachers were still at the C1 - C3 cognitive level with a percentage of 90%, while HOTS-based chemistry learning assessment instruments with C4 - C6 cognitive levels were still very rarely used. The obstacle is that the creation, use and development of instruments are relatively difficult, so teachers feel less interested in creating HOTS-based assessment instruments and lack ideas or references for what assessment instruments are good for evaluating chemistry learning. So it has an impact on the level of critical and creative thinking abilities of students. Keywords: instrument, assesment, HOTSDOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13.i1.2024.14

Abstract

The fatty alcohols C8, C10, C16 and C18 were used as raw materials for the sulfation reaction using the SO3-DMF complex to study the ratio of carbon chains. The first step is to prepare the SO3-DMF complex, by reacting SO3 gas into DMF at a temperature of 0-4 0C with a reaction time of 3 hours, then sulfation is carried out at 100 0C for 5 hours on C8, C10, C16 and C18. Tests were carried out on the results of sulfation with an FT-IR Spectrophotometer. Surface tension, foam stability and yield calculations. From the sulfation results, the yield results were respectively 83%, 81%, 68% and 61% then the results from the surface tension analysis were 35.3, dyne/cm, 30.3 dyne/cm, 29.4 dyne/cm and 33.6 dyne/cm and foam stability analysis of 0.2 cm, 0.8 cm, 0.7 cm and 1 cm. Based on the surface tension reduction value, palmityl alcohol is the best raw material for making surfactants.

Abstract

The sulfation reaction between myristyl alcohol and the SO3-DMF complex has been successfully carried out to produce sodium myristyl sulfate. Formation of the SO3-DMF complex by reacting DMF and SO3 gas obtained from the reaction of phosphorus pentaoxide and H2SO4. The variables studied were the time of formation of the complex, the time and temperature of sulfation and the concentration of NaOH at neutralization. The results of myristyl alcohol sulfation with SO3-DMF were tested by FTIR spectroscopic analysis, surface tension test, and foam stability test. The formation time of the SO3- DMF complex of 5 hours is the result of the highest surface tension reduction and the most optimal foam stability. The results of the foam stability test analysis showed the highest value at 80oC with a foam stability of 0.5 cm. The best result of sulfation neutralized with 40% NaOH solution was able to reduce the surface tension value and has foam stability up to 66% with a decrease in foam height of 0.3 cm

Abstract

Although natural rubber has many good qualities, its commercial uses are limited by its low chemical reactivity and low heat stability. A derivative with better stability, Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR), has to be chemically modified to increase its usefulness and broaden its range of applications. Investigating the effects of two different methods, the melt processing and solution system on the FTIR spectra of Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR) graft copolymerization with Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) was the aim of this work. Additionally, an evaluation of the effect of Dicumyl Peroxide (DCP) and Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) initiators on grafting results was carried out. According to FTIR spectrum analysis, the carbonyl ester (C=O) peak at roughly 1721 cm⁻¹, indicating effective grafting, was more pronounced in the melt processing approach than in the solution procedure. This implied that melt processing resulted in higher grafting efficiency. The absorption bands in the C-H stretching region (2860-2921 cm⁻¹) and the C=C stretching area (1672 cm⁻¹) show that the underlying structure of CNR has not degraded. The carbonyl index values for each composition showed that BPO performed better than DCP in the melt treatment method, however DCP as an initiator in the solution system produced a higher grafting efficiency than BPO.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to analyze the needs before developing computational chemistry-based learning media on hydrocarbon materials. This research is classified as development research developed with the ADDIE model. It's just that the stage used in this study is only limited to the analysis stage. Data collection in research is carried out by literature study methods and field studies with research instruments in the form of questionnaires on learning media needs and interviews by teachers. The location of this study is SMA Negeri Modal Bangsa Arun. Based on the results of interviews with chemistry teachers, it was found that learning hydrocarbon material at the high school level requires more effort because students must understand molecular structure, chemical bonds, and atomic structure. This makes students less understanding of concepts microscopically and can also cause misconceptions. Then, the results of the needs analysis show that there are still limited learning media that support microscopic concepts, especially the shape of molecules in 3-D. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that it is necessary to develop computational chemistry-based learning media on hydrocarbon materials.
