Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Latin alphabet usage on the vocabulary writing skills and science understanding of Thai Malay among Mattaeom 1 students at Ban Padungmat School, Thailand. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using participatory observation and documentation techniques on 25 students. The findings reveal that students face significant challenges in writing vocabulary due to differences in graphemic and phonological systems between the Latin alphabet and Thai script. Three dominant types of errors were identified: graphemic errors (72%), phonological errors (80%), and mixed usage of Latin and Thai characters (60%). These errors are influenced by negative transfer from the mother tongue and low adaptation to the Latin script. The study emphasizes the need for a contextual and phonetic-based learning approach in teaching the Latin alphabet to bilingual students. It recommends more intensive phonological and graphemic training to enhance vocabulary writing accuracy in Thai Malay.

Abstract

The low utilization of campus portals as a means of independent learning by students, even though the portal has been provided as part of the digitalization efforts of higher education. Therefore, it is necessary to explore further how various variables in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude toward use, and intention to use, influence the level of acceptance and utilization of campus portals for independent learning. The Independent Campus Portal uses the variables Perceived Ease of Use (PEU), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Attitude Toward Using (ATU), Behavioral Intention to Use (BIU), and Actual System Use (ASU) by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data collection for this study was carried out using a questionnaire. The sample used was 61 students majoring in Physics Education. The statistical testing methods used were statistical tests for normality, homogeneity, validity, reliability, and hypothesis testing using the t-test with the SPSS program. The results of this study indicate that of the six hypotheses proposed, all six hypotheses were accepted and had a significant influence. This research demonstrates the need for improved system optimization and technical support services to enable the portal to function more effectively and efficiently in supporting the Independent Campus program. The implications of this research demonstrate the importance of developing and optimizing the campus portal as a self-directed learning tool that is responsive to the needs and perceptions of users, particularly students.

Abstract

Background: Oranges (Citrus sinensis) are highly perishable fruits. Their preservation is of interest due to the global importance of reducing food spoilage. Cinnamon powder, a natural preservative, and sodium benzoate, a synthetic one, are both used in food preservation, yet their comparative efficacy in maintaining fruit quality is unclear. Methods: A controlled laboratory experiment was conducted using 5 groups of oranges subjected to 0.1% and 0.3% concentrations of cinnamon powder and sodium benzoate, and a control group. Parameters measured included mass change and pH stability over a 5-day refrigerated period. Quantitative data were collected daily, and statistical observations were made on moisture retention and pH changes. Results: Cinnamon powder (especially at 0.3%) showed the highest effectiveness in preserving fruit mass, with mean mass increases of 15.128% (0.1%) and 21.664% (0.3%). Sodium benzoate, by contrast, showed modest increase (5.542%) at 0.1% but a decrease (-1.966%) at 0.3%. pH levels across all samples remained relatively stable (4-5), indicating that neither preservative caused significant acidification. Conclusion: Cinnamon powder, especially at higher concentrations, is more effective in preserving the moisture content of oranges compared to sodium benzoate. Sodium benzoate was slightly more consistent in maintaining pH but failed to prevent mass loss at higher concentrations.

Abstract

Bland learning is one of the causes of students' inability to explore freely by prioritizing self-regulated in each learning process. The POGIL model is an approach that makes students free to explore every step of the learning process with the teacher serving as a helpful facilitator. This research aims to look at the correlation between increased self-regulated and conceptual understanding in colloidal material with the POGIL model. The increase that occurs does affect each other. The results in this study experienced an increase in conceptual understanding, with a mean of 70.09 in the experimental group and 51.21 in the control group. At the same time, the increase in the value of students' self-regulated was 84.59 in the in the experimental group and 72.37 in the control group. Pearson product-moment correlation analysis was obtained at -0.243. This study concludes that learning using the POGIL model effectively increases learning self-regulated and conceptual understanding. The correlation of these two variables is interpreted as a negative correlation or an indirect relationship (inverse).
