Abstract

Providing legal aid in rural areas is a crucial effort to ensure access to justice for all levels of society, especially for those who are less fortunate. Key opportunities for providing legal aid in rural areas include increasing legal awareness, strengthening community participation in legal processes, and increasing local capacity through legal education. Legal assistance in rural areas can also strengthen social cohesion and speed up the resolution of local and customary-based disputes. However, the challenges faced in providing legal aid in rural areas are not small. These challenges include limited human resources who are competent in the legal field, limited infrastructure and accessibility, as well as low levels of legal literacy among rural residents. In addition, difficulties in integrating the formal legal system with local customary law also add to the complexity of providing legal assistance. A deep understanding of the local context and approaches that adapt to the specific needs of rural communities are needed to address these challenges. This research discusses the opportunities and challenges that exist in providing legal aid in rural areas with a focus on providing inclusive and sustainable services. The strategic recommendations offered include improving legal education, strengthening cooperation networks between government, non-government organizations and local communities, as well as developing a more equitable legal infrastructure. A participatory and community-based approach is expected to increase the effectiveness of legal aid and ensure that justice can be accessed by all citizens, regardless of their geographical location.

Abstract

Large ruminants, consisting of cattle and buffalo, have played an important role in human life from the past to the present. Information about the utilization of large ruminants was often found in inscriptions in ancient Java. Unfortunately, the diversity of these large ruminants was not described in detail. The reliefs of the temples can be used as a consideration in understanding the diversity of large ruminants based on the morphological characteristics carved in the reliefs. Borobudur Temple, a historical building from the 8th century AD which was rich in reliefs, can be used as a data source to find information about the diversity of the large ruminants in Java. The aims of this study was to find the diversity of the large ruminants in Java in the 8th century based on the reliefs at Borobudur Temple. The research was conducted by observing various large ruminant images contained in the reliefs of Borobudur Temple. The results of the observations were interpreted and clustered based on their morphological characteristics. The results showed that there were ten relief panels containing images of cattle and nine relief panels containing images of buffalo. Based on the observed morphological characteristics, it could be concluded that there was only one breed of cattle and buffalo, respectively zebu (Bos indicus) and wild buffalo (Bubalus arnee).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of tax avoidance and earnings management on the cost of equity capital, with managerial ownership as a moderating variable, in energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2019–2023 period. The research adopts a quantitative approach using secondary data derived from audited annual financial statements. The sampling technique employed is purposive sampling based on specific criteria, resulting in a total of 55 companies that met the data completeness requirements. The variables in this study include tax avoidance (measured by the Effective Tax Rate), earnings management (measured using the Modified Jones Model 1995), cost of equity capital (measured using the Capital Asset Pricing Model), and managerial ownership (measured by the proportion of managerial shareholding). The data were analyzed using the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) technique with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings indicate that tax avoidance positively affects the cost of equity capital. Meanwhile, earnings management has a negative effect on equity capital costs. Managerial ownership moderates the relationship between both tax avoidance and earnings management on the cost of equity capital.

Abstract

The low utilization of campus portals as a means of independent learning by students, even though the portal has been provided as part of the digitalization efforts of higher education. Therefore, it is necessary to explore further how various variables in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude toward use, and intention to use, influence the level of acceptance and utilization of campus portals for independent learning. The Independent Campus Portal uses the variables Perceived Ease of Use (PEU), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Attitude Toward Using (ATU), Behavioral Intention to Use (BIU), and Actual System Use (ASU) by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Data collection for this study was carried out using a questionnaire. The sample used was 61 students majoring in Physics Education. The statistical testing methods used were statistical tests for normality, homogeneity, validity, reliability, and hypothesis testing using the t-test with the SPSS program. The results of this study indicate that of the six hypotheses proposed, all six hypotheses were accepted and had a significant influence. This research demonstrates the need for improved system optimization and technical support services to enable the portal to function more effectively and efficiently in supporting the Independent Campus program. The implications of this research demonstrate the importance of developing and optimizing the campus portal as a self-directed learning tool that is responsive to the needs and perceptions of users, particularly students.
