Abstract

Background: Anorectal malformations are congenital conditions with a range of clinical presentations. They can be associated with portal hypertension or anatomical anomalies that obstruct venous outflow. While anorectal issues are common in pediatrics, their etiology and management can differ significantly from those in adults. This report presents a successful case of pediatric hemorrhoids managed surgically with a satisfactory outcome. Case presentation: A 4-year-old girl presented with a protruding anal lesion and intermittent constipation, first noticed at age 1. She was born aterm with no abnormalities. Physical examination revealed a 0.5 to 1 cm circular lesion obstructing the anal orifice, diagnosed as a grade-IV internal hemorrhoid. Laboratory results were within normal limits. Due to the severity of the lesion, a Whitehead hemorrhoidectomy was performed. Follow-up showed no complications, such as secondary wound healing, anal stricture, or mucosal ectropion. Conclusion: Whitehead hemorrhoidectomy is an effective treatment for severe pediatric hemorrhoids, as demonstrated by this case with a complication-free recovery. Accurate surgical technique and vigilant follow-up are key to a successful outcome.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in learning on the understanding of material by young students. In today's digital era, AI is increasingly being adopted in educational environments, with the potential to personalize learning, increase student engagement, and accelerate the process of understanding material. This research method uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. A total of 120 students from various study programs at a university in Indonesia became research respondents, who were divided into two groups: a group that used an AI-based learning platform and a group that used conventional learning methods. Data collection was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the level of understanding of the material, as well as surveys to evaluate the learning experience. The results of the study showed that the group of students who used AI technology in learning had a more significant increase in understanding the material compared to the control group. In addition, students who used AI reported a more interactive and motivating learning experience. However, this study also found challenges, such as excessive dependence on technology and disparities in access to adequate technological devices. Based on these findings, the study recommends the integration of AI into the education curriculum in a balanced manner, considering technical and pedagogical factors to maximize the potential of AI-based learning.

Abstract

Prevention of fires caused by gas leaks is one of the top priorities in maintaining environmental safety. in domestic life. Errors in installation and slow handling when LPG gas leaks can trigger fires, so this study introduces a prototype gas leak detection system that is specifically designed as an effort to prevent fires. The design of this system integrates the Arduino Uno with the MQ-6 sensor to detect the presence of harmful gases such as methane and iso butane that can trigger a fire. The Arduino Uno serves as the main control unit that processes data from the MQ-6 sensor, which measures gas concentrations in real-time. When the MQ-6 sensor detects gas levels that exceed a predetermined threshold of < 200 ppm, the Arduino Uno activates warning mechanisms, including audible alarms and SMS notifications, to notify the user of the leak. In addition, this system is connected with an automatic exhaust fan device as an additional step to reduce the risk of fire. Testing of the system showed that the prototype was able to detect gas leaks with high accuracy and provide a timely response, thus contributing significantly to fire prevention efforts and improving safety. With the reliability and efficiency offered, this prototype offers an innovative solution to prevent the risk of fire in the home

Abstract

Vision is foundational to children’s learning and development, yet millions of school-aged children suffer from undiagnosed or untreated vision problems. Despite the critical role of vision in academic achievement, eye health is rarely integrated into school curricula globally. This study presents a systematic literature review of recent evidence (2020–2024) on the integration of eye health into educational curricula, analyzing models, stakeholder roles, barriers, and measurable impacts. Using PRISMA guidelines, 35 peer-reviewed articles were selected through searches on Scopus, PubMed, ERIC, and Google Scholar. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify dominant trends across curriculum integration models, educator and optometrist roles, policy constraints, and outcomes. Findings reveal that integrated models where eye health is embedded into science or health subjects enhance students’ knowledge and behavior. Teachers trained in basic visual screening significantly improve early detection. Cross-sector collaboration between health and education authorities boosts sustainability. Key barriers include policy misalignment, funding gaps, and cultural beliefs about eyewear. Programs in India, Australia, and South Africa show strong outcomes in literacy improvement, academic gains, and cost-effectiveness. Integrating eye health into education is not merely a health intervention but a strategic investment in equity and academic potential. Policymakers must prioritize vision care within school health frameworks by empowering educators, engaging optometrists, and contextualizing approaches to local needs.

Abstract

The wellbeing of medical students has emerged as a critical issue within medical education. High academic demands, prolonged study hours, and competitive environments contribute significantly to psychological distress, including depression, anxiety, and burnout. This systematic literature review synthesizes findings from 48 peer-reviewed studies published between January 2021 and April 2025 to explore the psychological, academic, and social determinants of wellbeing among medical students. Results indicate that maladaptive perfectionism, lack of emotional regulation, and inadequate support systems are key risk factors. Technological interventions, such as mobile-based mindfulness training and online counseling platforms, offer promising but limited solutions unless integrated into broader institutional frameworks. The review concludes by proposing a multidimensional model that combines curriculum reform, psychological resilience training, structured social support, and ethical use of technology to promote holistic student wellbeing.
