Abstract

Problem statement of this research was whether there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Objective of this research was to find out whether there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data collection in this study was carried out using a research instrument in the form of a test to students to determine the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text. This research is a quantitative research. The subjects of this study were 55 grade eight students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data were analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 21.0. Based on the results of research and data analysis, it was concluded that there was a correlation between vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. This conclusion is based on the results of statistical analysis which found a significance level of 0.939 with an r table value of 0.266. The rxy value is greater than the r table value (0.939> 0.266) and the significance value is less than (0.5) or in other words the Null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted.

Abstract

The problem of statement in this research was what are the factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau. Objective of this research was to find out factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau. This researcher used qualitative descriptive method. Subject of this researcher was one English teacher and four students of class X 2. This researcher instrument was obsevation, interview and documentation. The results of this researcher indicated the factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau were: 1) internal factors such as low vocabulary mastery, low grammar understanding, low self confidence, shame and nervousness; 2) external factors such as school environment.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah perawatan dan pemeliharaan peninggalan Sejarah yaitu Bungker Jepang serta pengembang Potensi Pariwisata peninggalan sejarah Buncker Jepang. Metode yang digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan ini Adapun proses pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diawali dengan observasi lapangan dimana dilakukan selama beberapa hari, dan dilanjutkan pertemuan dengan masyarakat diaula desa bola perawatan dan pemeliharaan peninggalan Sejarah yaitu Bungker Jepang serta pengembang Potensi Pariwisata peninggalan sejarah Buncker Jepang. Hasil 1) Hal yang pertama dilakukan adalah membersihkan diarea sekitar peninggalan sejarah yaitu bungker jepang, 2) melakukan pengukuran selanjutnya membuat gambar design Pembuatan Gapura Bungker Jepang, 3) Perencanaan/desain Gazebo Buncker Jepang Desa Bola, 4) Rencana adanya pemasangan patok rambu rambu jalan menuju ke bungker jepang di situ rencana dibuatkan guardrail sebagai penahan dan apabila terjadinya kecelakaan, 5) banyaknya bangunan atau objek wisata yang tidak terawat dan dibiarkan begitu saja, 6) tidak adanya listrik di dalam terowongan bungker jepang, 7) tidak adanya perawatan dan hilangnya bagian tempat terpenting peninggalan itu dan tidak adanya himbauan atau larangan di area situs sejarah bangker jepang, dan 8) menumbuhkan kesadaran pemerintah daerah, masyrakat, tokoh masyarakat, tokoh pemuda serta seluruh lapisan masyarakat untuk serta menjaga dan merawat situr sejarah yaitu bungker jepang. Kesimpulan Adapun proses pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diawali dengan observasi lapangan dimana dilakukan selama beberapa hari, dan dilanjutkan pertemuan dengan masyarakat diaula desa bola sehingga melihat tidak adanya Gapura Buncker Jepang, tidak adanya Gazebo di Bungker, patok rambu rambu jalan menuju ke bungker jepang, banyaknya bangunan atau objek wisata yang tidak terawat dan dibiarkan begitu saja, tidak adanya listrik di dalam terowongan bungker jepang dan tidak adanya perawatan dan hilangnya bagian tempat terpenting peninggalan. serta menumbuhkan kesadaran pemerintah daerah, masyrakat, tokoh masyarakat, tokoh pemuda serta seluruh lapisan masyarakat untuk serta menjaga dan merawat situr sejarah yaitu bungker jepang.

Abstract

Di tengah kemajuan teknologi dan konektivitas global yang semakin berkembang pesat, pendidikan memiliki peran yang sangat penting dalam mempersiapkan generasi muda menghadapi tantangan era globalisasi. Bahasa Inggris dan Matematika adalah dua mata pelajaran yang mendominasi dalam kurikulum pendidikan. Bahasa Inggris menjadi bahasa global yang digunakan dalam berbagai konteks, termasuk komunikasi bisnis, teknologi, sains, dan budaya. Sementara itu, Matematika adalah bahasa universal yang digunakan untuk memecahkan masalah, menganalisis data, dan memahami fenomena alam serta teknologi. Kegiatan edukasi pentingnya belajar bahasa Inggris dan Matematika di tingkat sekolah menengah pertama dalam menghadapi era globalisasi di MTsN 1 Buton Selatan telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 7 September 2023. Kegiatan PkM dihadiri oleh 15 siswa-siswi dan 1 guru kelas. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dibuka oleh kepala sekolah mitra yakni kepala MTsN 1 Buton Selatan, dilanjutkan dengan penjelasan materi tentang pentingnya belajar bahasa Inggris dan Matematika. Materi ini diberikan untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam belajar sehingga mereka dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam bidang tersebut untuk bekal di masa depan. Setelah penyampaian materi, kemudian dibuka sesi diskusi dan tanya jawab. Peserta terlihat antusias dan aktif selama mengikuti kegiatan hingga akhir kegiatan. Pada akhir kegiatan, peserta mengisi angket yang berisi penilaian terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan PkM. Berdasarkan hasil analisis terhadap angket tersebut, diperoleh bahwa sebagian besar peserta menyatakan setuju bahwa pentingya belajar bahasa Inggris dan Matematika dalam menghadapai era globalisasi.

Abstract

Bullying di sekolah menengah atas (SMA) telah menjadi masalah sosial serius yang berdampak negatif terhadap prestasi akademik dan kesejahteraan mental siswa. Program ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran siswa mengenai bullying melalui kampanye anti-bullying berbasis media sosial. Metode yang digunakan adalah pembuatan konten edukatif dan interaktif di platform seperti Instagram dan TikTok. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa tentang bullying serta partisipasi aktif dalam kampanye. Kampanye ini berhasil membangun solidaritas siswa dan menciptakan lingkungan sekolah yang lebih aman. Kesimpulannya, media sosial efektif sebagai platform kampanye untuk mengurangi bullying di kalangan remaja.

Abstract

This research explores teachers' perspectives on strategies to enhance students' motivation in learning English at MTsN 4 Buton Selatan. The research identifies challenges such as student passivity and limited vocabulary, which hinder engagement in language learning. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected from three teachers through semi-structured interviews and analyzed with NVivo software. The findings highlight that intrinsic motivation, driven by curiosity and personal interest, and extrinsic motivation, influenced by family, peers, and environment, were critical for fostering learning engagement. Teachers employed strategies such as creating supportive classroom environments, assigning meaningful tasks, offering praise, and providing constructive feedback to address motivational barriers. These approaches were crucial in enhancing students' willingness to participate and succeed. This research concludes by emphasizing the importance of holistic and adaptive teaching methods to balance intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for effective learning. Future research could focus on long-term impacts of motivational strategies and sociocultural influences on English language acquisition

Abstract

Perkembangan era digital yang masif menuntut generasi muda memiliki literasi pendidikan dan teknologi untuk bersaing secara global. Kegiatan ini ditujukan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang pentingnya pendidikan sebagai fondasi meraih peluang yang baik di era digital. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyampaian materi melalui presentasi power point interaktif, dilanjutkan sesi tanya jawab untuk mendiskusikan tantangan dan solusi penerapan pendidikan berbasis digital. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan antusiasme peserta dalam menyimak materi, ditandai partisipasi aktif selama diskusi serta peningkatan kesadaran akan pentingnya integrasi teknologi dalam pembelajaran. Kesimpulannya, pendidikan di era digital tidak hanya memerlukan penguasaan teknis, tetapi juga pembentukan karakter kritis, kreatif, dan adaptif sebagai pondasi Generasi Emas 2045. Kegiatan ini menjadi stimulus awal bagi siswa untuk memanfaatkan kemajuan digital secara positif guna mendukung keberhasilan pendidikan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This research explores the common linguistic features found in the spoken English of Indonesian employees in corporate settings, focusing on grammatical, pronunciation, and vocabulary aspects. The primary objective of this research is to identify and analyze the errors made by Indonesian employees when using English in professional contexts. The research utilizes qualitative methods, involving interviews with employees from various corporate sectors, analyzing their spoken English for common linguistic patterns. The research finds that significant grammatical errors include the omission of plural noun markers (-s/-es), incorrect usage of auxiliary verbs, and the overuse of "to be" in present sentences. Pronunciation errors, such as mispronouncing the ā€˜v’ sound as ā€˜f’, and the tendency to apply Indonesian pronunciation patterns, were also prevalent. Additionally, vocabulary usage showed signs of direct translation from Indonesian, resulting in inappropriate word choices. The findings highlight the influence of native language structures on English proficiency, particularly in formal communication. This research emphasizes the need for tailored language training to address these specific challenges, including focused grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary exercises. It is suggested that such interventions would improve the clarity and effectiveness of English communication among Indonesian employees in the corporate environment. Future researches may further explore sociolinguistic factors and evaluate the efficacy of proposed language improvement programs.

Abstract

This research investigates the linguistic features of English variety used by Indonesian speakers in professional settings, specifically among pediatricians, South Sulawesi TVRI broadcasters, and waitresses. The research addresses how occupational background and first language influence the use of English in spoken interactions. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through recorded interviews with seven participants from the three professions. The analysis focused on phonological, lexical, and syntactic features, revealing a range of linguistic phenomena such as vowel shifts, glottal stops, and code-switching, which reflect both regional accents and the speakers' social contexts. Notably, pediatricians showed phonological transfer from regional languages like Butonese and Buginese, while broadcasters demonstrated lexical borrowing and occasional formal register inconsistency. Waitresses exhibited simpler sentence structures with noticeable pronunciation influences from their vernaculars. The findings highlight how English spoken by Indonesian professionals is shaped not only by linguistic competence but also by sociolinguistic variables such as occupation, regional origin, and communicative purpose. This research contributes to the understanding of World Englishes and emphasizes the importance of sociolinguistic awareness in teaching and evaluating English proficiency in multilingual societies.

Abstract

In many Indonesian EFL classrooms, students still rely on teacher-directed, exam-oriented routines with limited explicit instruction on self-regulated learning. Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategies are critical for academic success, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. In Indonesia, however, there remains limited research on the deep learning self-regulation strategies used by EFL learners and the impact of gender and academic grade level. This study explores the deep learning self-regulation strategies Indonesian higher education students use in learning English, focusing on gender and grade level differences. Using the Deep Learning Strategies Questionnaire (DLS-Q) and semi-structured interviews, the results show a moderate use of SRL strategies, with Basic Learning Strategies being the most frequent. These strategies involve task planning, goal setting, and self-monitoring. Summarizing and activating prior knowledge were more often utilized by male students through Basic Learning and Deep Information Processing Strategies compared to female students. On the other hand, females appeared to prefer Social Strategies such as group discussions and collaboration with peers. These, along with the lack of variation with grade level, were not significant from a statistical standpoint. This research proposes that employing Deep Learning Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategies, using visuals and reflective tools, may enhance student engagement during EFL instruction.
