In the modern era of academic pressure, individuals often face psychological challenges that affect their ability to persevere and succeed. Cognitive restructuring counselling has been shown to be effective in changing an individual's mindset, but there have not been many studies examining the influence of the integration of spiritual values such as Wahdatul Ulum in this context. This study aims to explore the effect of integrating Wahdatul Ulum values in cognitive restructuring counseling to increase mental resilience and student perseverance. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach to develop and test a cognitive restructuring counseling model that integrates the values of Wahdatul Ulum. The population is students of FITK UIN SU Medan class of 2020 totaling 195 students. The research sample was 32 BKPI students who were selected purposively. Instrument development by identifying and analyzing literature, expert validation, limited trials, and developing cognitive restructuring counselling models covering aspects of Wahdatul Ulum values. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test that utilizes SPSS 25 to detect any significant changes. The results showed that the perseverance of the treatment group increased significantly, while the perseverance of the control group decreased. These findings support the idea that the integration of spiritual values in counselling can provide an effective holistic approach to improving individual resilience. This research provides insight into how cognitive restructuring counselling with the Wahdatul Ulum approach can help students overcome psychological barriers and improve their ability to face challenges in daily life. The practical implication is that cognitive restructuring counselling with spiritual values can be an effective alternative to guidance and counselling services to improve students' perseverance and mental resilience.

The heightened global expectation of English proficiency is equally matched with the demand for students of this generation to be adept at handling technology, leading to the boom of artificial intelligence application in education. This paper is a contribution from a local teacher’s attempt to adapt and use an AI English speaking coach called ELSA Speak. This study determines the impact of using the app in enhancing junior high school students’ speaking skills through a pre-experimental study and establish a state-of-the-art understanding of the extent of the collective exploration of this AI. The first research design is a pre-experimental study and utilised the quantitative analysis approach, involving 23 third-grade pupils from MTs Zia Salsabila Percut Sei Tuan as the sample. The second research design is a systematic literature review of a total of 491 papers published from 2015 to 2024. Findings from the primary data proved that ELSA Speak app effectively enhances students' speaking proficiency in five aspects (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and content) and successfully held the attention of students whose history prior to the use had very low motivation to learn and practice English as a foreign language. However, the systematic review revealed that this type of study is the furthest point of current investigation on ELSA Speak app, and thus calls for the need for more robust studies to develop a better understanding of whether the short-term success of using the AI can last for long-term and in what other ways can it be integrated into the teaching syllabus.

The integration of game-based learning methods in language education has been explored to varying extents, yet there remains a significant gap in understanding how specific games like the Taboo Game can impact English vocabulary acquisition among junior high school students. This study aims to address this gap by examining students' perceptions of using Taboo to enhance their English vocabulary. Participants included 34 junior high school students from MTs Madrisatul Ikbar during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, with a subset of 12 students selected for interviews. A purposive sampling technique was employed to identify participants. The study utilized a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, collecting data through observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews. Findings indicate that the majority of students perceived the Taboo Game positively, noting improvements in vocabulary retention, increased engagement, and reduced anxiety in learning English. Despite some differing opinions, the overall consensus highlighted the game's effectiveness and enjoyment as a learning tool. This study underscores the potential of Taboo as an engaging and effective method for enhancing English vocabulary skills in a junior high school setting.

The study explored the effectiveness of Grammarly as a supportive tool in enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing skills, based on students' perceptions. The research aimed to identify the advantages and disadvantages experienced by students using Grammarly in their writing activities. Data were collected from 30 higher education students at UIN Sumatera Utara Medan, who participated in EFL writing classes. The methodology involved questionnaires and interviews, with the questionnaires comprising 12 statements on Grammarly's usage intensity and effectiveness. Five students were selected for in-depth interviews to gain further insights into their experiences. The results indicated that students generally had positive perceptions of Grammarly, appreciating its ability to minimize grammatical errors, improve language style, and enhance word choice and punctuation. However, some drawbacks were noted, such as the need for a stable internet connection and the limited functionality of the free version. The conclusion of the study affirmed that Grammarly is a valuable tool for supporting EFL writing, providing clear and detailed feedback that helps students produce more accurate and polished written work. This research contributes to the understanding of technology-assisted language learning tools and their impact on student writing proficiency.
