Abstract

Mental disorders are among the health problems that affect all aspects of an individual's life. The rehabilitation of patients with mental disorders does not rely solely on professional services in healthcare facilities, but is also greatly influenced by family involvement. The family plays a crucial role in supporting the healing process, preventing relapse, and optimizing the patient's quality of life. Unfortunately, many families still lack an understanding of their strategic role in this process. This community service activity aims to improve families' knowledge and skills in supporting the rehabilitation of patients with mental disorders. The methods used include education, discussion, simulation, and direct family mentoring. The results showed an increase in family understanding of patient care, active involvement in behavior monitoring, and improved emotional management. Family-based interventions have proven to be an effective approach in the sustainable rehabilitation process of patients with mental disorders.

Abstract

Survivorship care aims to address the long-term physical and psychosocial needs of cancer survivors, yet evidence regarding its effectiveness and optimal components remains inconsistent. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of survivorship care interventions on quality of life and related outcomes among gynecological and breast cancer survivors and explored intervention components associated with improved outcomes with PRISMA guidelines. Seven databases were searched for English-language studies involving adult gynecological and/or breast cancer survivors who had completed primary treatment and received survivorship care interventions compared with usual care. A random-effects model was used to estimate pooled effects. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I² statistic, and subgroup analyses and meta-regression were performed. Risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. The review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023402234). Eight randomized controlled trials comprising 1,464 participants were included. Survivorship care interventions significantly improved overall quality of life (SMD = 0.26; 95% CI: 0.08–0.44), physical well-being (SMD = 0.26; 95% CI: 0.12–0.41), mental well-being (SMD = 0.17; 95% CI: 0.03–0.31), and reduced depressive symptoms (SMD = 0.20; 95% CI: 0.00–0.41), with low to moderate heterogeneity across outcomes. Subgroup analyses indicated that multimodal interventions incorporating lectures, discussions, consultations, and online coaching particularly those supported by mobile health applications were associated with greater benefits, especially in physical well-being. Several studies demonstrated moderate risk of bias, mainly related to randomization and reporting. Survivorship care interventions provide small to moderate clinically meaningful improvements in quality of life and psychosocial outcomes among gynecological and breast cancer survivors. These findings support the integration of structured, multidisciplinary, and technology assisted survivorship care into routine oncology practice, while highlighting the need for higher quality, context sensitive trials.

Abstract

Background: Empathy is a fundamental competency for nursing students to build therapeutic relationships and effective communication. This ability is at risk of declining due to the phenomena of alexithymia and social media addiction. Although the impact is significant, the maladaptive use of social media as a coping mechanism for alexithymia often goes unnoticed in the context of nursing education. Identifying the relationship between social media addiction, alexithymia, and empathy is crucial. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between social media addiction, alexithymia, and empathy, as well as to examine the mediating role of alexithymia in nursing students. Method: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design on 197 nursing students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the SMAS-SF, TAS-20, and JSPE-R questionnaires, then analyzed using path analysis. Results: The majority of respondents experienced high levels of social media addiction (57.4%), alexithymia (39.1%), and high empathy (77.7%). The path analysis results proved that alexithymia acted as the main mediator, social media addiction was significantly related to alexithymia (p=0.000) and alexithymia was significantly related to empathy (p=0.002), while the direct relationship between social media addiction and empathy was not significant (p=0.206). Conclusion: This study proves that alexithymia acts as the primary mediator. Social media addiction indirectly reduces empathy through blunted emotional sensitivity. The implications of this study emphasize the need for attention to the phenomenon of social media addiction related to alexithymia in order to maintain empathy competence in nursing students. Suggestion: Further research is recommended to apply a longitudinal or experimental design to conduct further testing of the causal relationship between variables.   Keywords: Alexithymia; Empathy; Nursing Students; Social Media.
