Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology is currently pushing the mass media industry, especially newspapers, to make adjustments. The development of this technology has changed human habits in accessing information from the mass media. One adjustment to the development of digital technology is through media convergence. If one wants to survive in the digital era, convergence is absolutely necessary. This study aims to identify and analyze the strategies undertaken by the management of the Pikiran Rakyat newspaper to maintain its existence in the digital era. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with the management of the Pikiran Rakyat newspaper, as well as a literature review of previous research on the same topic. The analysis results show that the Pikiran Rakyat newspaper applies the multimedia, multichannel, and multiplatform (3M) strategy. According to the management, implementing this strategy is the answer to the dynamic changes in people's perspectives on obtaining information. Hopefully, this research can serve as a reference for future media studies and information and communication technology researchers, and provide useful insights for the mass media industry as it adjusts to the current digital era.

Abstract

Film merupakan salah satu media berkomunikasi dan penyebaran informasi. Film juga merupakan media audio visual yang terdiri dari potongan gambar yang kemudian disatukan menjadi kesatuan yang utuh dan memiliki kemampuan dalam menangkap realitas dari sosial budaya, membuat film mampu menyampaikan pesannya. Film Minari adalah film yang tayang pada tahun 2020 dan di sutradarai oleh Lee Isaac Chung  . Film ini mengisahkan perjalanan satu keluarga yang merupakan imigran dari Korea yang berusaha mengejar impian mereka di Amerika. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui makna-makna yang terjadi di dalam film dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika dari Roland Barthes, yaitu dengan mencari makna-makna dari denotasi, konotasi dan mitos. Selain itu, tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana film merepresentasikan konflik di dalam keluarga Jacob. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka. Data yang telah diperoleh kemudian melalui proses reduksi data, penyajian, sampai kepada menarik kesimpulan dari penelitian ini. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film ini bukan hanya menunjukkan makna yang umum tetapi terdapat juga makna denotasi, konotasi dan mitos yang terdapat di dalam teks dan gambar dalam film. Selain itu, representasi makna pesan sosial dari film ini juga memberikan sudut pandang dalam memaknai komunikasi di dalam keluarga, memaknai perbedaan budaya, serta kerukunan antara orang yang memiliki budaya yang berbeda-beda. Kata kunci : Film Minari, Semiotika Roland Barthes, denotasi, konotasi, mitos

Abstract

The treatment of TB faces many obstacles, both from the patient’s perspective and their environment. Therefore, the presence of TB survivors in the treatment process is expected to assist TB survivors during the recovery and post-recovery stages. Many approaches can be made to deal with TB, including the social and behavior change communication (SBCC) approach. This study aims to analyze the use of SBCC by TB survivors from the Terjang Foundation in treating TB in Bandung. This study adopts a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, field observations, and literature reviews. The study results show that SBCC has been implemented as follows: 1) Advocacy is carried out through meetings to seek support from the government and other stakeholders; 2) Social mobilization is carried out by involving stakeholders, including the Health Office, community elements, and TB survivors. Social mobilization is conducted through TB Day activities, seminars, and patient visits; 3) Education is carried out by explaining TB treatment to survivors and accompanying TB patients during drug administration in hospitals.

Abstract

In 2020, Bandung city ranked second in West Java for tuberculosis (TB) cases. The city government and stakeholders have taken health education, early detection, free treatment, and surveillance measures to address TB. Yet, a comprehensive approach is still needed. Despite previous studies exploring TB management, the role of religious approaches still needs to be explored. Employing a qualitative approach through a case study method, this research involves data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and literature reviews. Participants are TB healthcare workers and religious speakers in Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Bandung city. In 2020, Bandung reported 8,504 TB cases with increased detection success. ‘Aisyiyah TB Care uses a religious approach to offer emotional and spiritual support to patients facing physical challenges, emotional burdens, and stigma. Religious perspectives introduce spiritual support via Islamic teachings emphasizing hygiene and self-care. Interviews reveal changed patient perceptions due to the religious approach. ‘Aisyiyah addresses TB complexity and stigma, conducting educational efforts to reshape perceptions. The religious approach assists TB sufferers, aiming for positive influence, improved relationships, and fostering hope, gratitude, and trust in God. Collaborative efforts among health, religious, and government organizations are essential for effective TB management. The research highlights the positive impact of ‘Aisyiyah TB Care's religious approach on management, addressing stigma, and enhancing well-being. Improved information dissemination and support are vital, particularly in areas with high TB burdens.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) patients face medical challenges and stigmatization from their surroundings. The Terjang Foundation is actively working to combat societal stigma towards TB patients. Purpose: This research analyzes the Terjang Foundation’s interpersonal communication approach to combating stigma towards TB patients. By understanding and assessing the communication methods employed by the foundation, the study aims to contribute to developing effective strategies for reducing the negative stigma associated with TB. Methods: This research utilizes a qualitative research method with a case study approach. In-depth interviews, field observations, and literature reviews are conducted to gather relevant data and insights. Results: The results of this study indicate that the Terjang Foundation employs five positive attitudes in their interpersonal communication approach to combat stigma towards TB patients: openness, empathy, positivity, equality, and supportiveness. These attitudes contribute to fostering an environment that challenges the negative stigma associated with TB. Continuous and frequent communication is crucial in combating stigma, promoting understanding and empathy, and disseminating accurate information. Empathy and equality emerge as prominent positive attitudes consistently demonstrated in communication. Conclusion: The study concludes that maintaining an ongoing and frequent communication process is essential for combating stigma in interpersonal communication efforts. Implications: The research findings have both practical and theoretical implications. Practically, the study emphasizes the importance of adopting positive attitudes, such as empathy and equality, in interpersonal communication strategies to reduce stigma towards TB patients. These insights can guide organizations, healthcare providers, and policymakers in developing effective communication campaigns and interventions to combat stigma related to TB and other diseases.

Abstract

Utilization of Big Data in agricultural practices has become a crucial topic, particularly for millennial farmers in Bandung City. Modern agriculture requires swift and precise access to information to enhance efficiency and productivity. This research aims to explore how the utilization of Big Data influences millennial agricultural practices in Bandung City and to provide recommendations for improving its usage in the agricultural sector. The study employs a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and participatory observation of active millennial farmers in Bandung City. The analysis reveals that the adoption of Big Data, viewed through the lens of Innovation Diffusion Theory, strengthens communication among farmers, facilitates the formation of cooperatives based on available data, expedites decision-making processes, and aids in optimizing resource utilization. Strengthening technological infrastructure, enhancing training and education, providing financial support, fostering partnerships, and advocating supportive policies can enhance the utilization of Big Data, thus positively impacting millennial agriculture in Bandung City.

Abstract

Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) yang menjadikan idiologi Islam sebagai landasan perjuangannya, mendapatkan apresiasi dari masyarakat. Buktinya, dalam dua periode pemilihan umum (Pemilu), yakni tahun 2004 dan 2009, PKS masih bertahan dalam jajaran partai besar tanah air.Kota Bandung yang menjadi salah satu basis massa PKS telah mampu menempatkan partainya menjadi pemenang pada pemilu legislatif tahun 2004. Namun pada pemilu legislatif 2009, PKS hanya mampu menjadi pemenang nomor dua setelah Partai Demokrat. Naik turunnya perolehan suara pada pemilu legislatif sangat ditentukan dan strategi komunikasi politik PKS dalam menghadapi pemilu legislatif 2009, di Kota Bandung. Fungsi komunikasi politik meliputi agregasi, artikulasi, sosialisasi, rekruitmen, dan partisipasi. Sedangkan strategi komunikasi politik meliputi strategi eksistensi pemimpin politik, merawat ketokohan dan memantapkan kelembagaan, menciptakan kebersamaan, negosiasi, dan strategi membangun konsensus dalam pencapaian tujuan komunikasi politik untuk mendapatkan dukungan politik dari publik dalam menghadapi pemilu legislatif 2009.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peneliti memperoleh gambaran bahwa dalam menjalankan fungsi dan strategi komunikasi politiknya, PKS Kota Bandung selalu mengacu kepada platform partai, yang disesuaikan dengan karakteristisk perpolitikan di Kota Bandung. Namun demikian, ada beberapa fungsi dan strategi komunikasi politik yang belum dilakukan secara optimal oleh PKS Kota Bandung. Sehingga pada pemilu legislatif 2009, partai ini hanya mempu menjadi pemenang nomor dua setelah Partai Demokrat. AbstractPartai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) making Islamic ideology as their struggling principle, get the public appreciation. Actually, in two election periods, 2004 and 2009, PKS still belong to be the one of big parties in Indonesia.Bandung city as the one of PKS participant base was able to put the party being the winner of legislative election 2004. In 2009, however, the party occupying second position after Partai Demokrat. The research aimed to find out function and political communication strategy of PKS in legislative election 2009 at the Bandung city. Meanwhile in purpose, it is to know of function including political leadership existence aggregation, articulation, recruitmen, and participation. And to know of strategy including political leadership existence, figure preservation, and institution stabilization, togetherness establishment, negotiation, and strategy of consensus development in achieve the political communication target for public political sustaining of legislative election 2009. By the study, observer gain the description that in order to implement the function and political communication strategy, PKS of Bandung city always referred to the party platform, in accordance with the political character of Bandung city. However, there are any functions and strategy do not implement in optimum yet. Thus in legislative election 2009, the party only gains the second range after Parti Demokrat.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of big data on social media in carrying out crisis communication. This study uses a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through a literature study. The results of this study also emphasize three aspects, namely: 1). The government must define a crisis because to understand a crisis, of course, we must start by defining it first. Each crisis that arises is accompanied by its own characteristics. 2). The government can use Big Data information sources to accelerate the implementation of government programs. 3). One of the efforts to look at big data to identify problems is to carry out the stages of social media. In the era of advances in communication and information technology, the existence of social media can no longer be separated from the activities of the world community..

Abstract

The information media influences public attitudes in many aspects of life, including those concerning public political attitudes. Therefore the position of the media is very strategic in mapping public political attitudes. The media carrying the message constructs the message it makes. This study aims to analyze student reviews of the media coverage of Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in 2004. This study was designed with a qualitative approach, reception analysis method. Data collection techniques were obtained through surveys, literature review and documentation. The results of the study show that students have various attitudes after they learn about media coverage. Students who have a dominant-hegomonic position have reasons that Anies Baswedan is the best figure currently available; students who are in a negotiated position choose the moderate path to be more careful with the reason that they will first study the political figures that will appear ahead of the upcoming 2024 Indonesian presidential election; students who took an oppositional position without hesitation immediately rejected him on the grounds that Anies Baswedan was not fit to be president of Indonesia. Abstract

This study focuses on the challenges faced by international students at IPB University Bogor in using a mixed language, namely English and Indonesian, in both academic and social contexts. The aim of the research is to understand how the use of mixed language affects communication and social interaction among foreign students from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Ghana at IPB University. The research method employed is qualitative analysis based on in-depth interviews with these students. The findings indicate that the use of mixed language creates confusion and difficulties in maintaining smooth communication, impacting their academic participation and social interactions. The foreign students demonstrated effective adaptation strategies, such as simplifying language and seeking social support. In conclusion, cross-cultural communication challenges require additional support and better adaptation strategies. Developing intercultural competence, including language skills, social skills, adaptive attitudes, and emotional competence, as well as institutional support, is crucial to enhancing the experience of international students in a multicultural environment
