Abstract

This study was aimed to describe and interpret the implementation of the competence certification for professional welders at SMKN 2 Wonosari and SMKN 2 Pengasih which included: (1) the administrators’ readiness, (2) the implementation, (3) the supporting and obstacles factors, and (4) the impact of the program of competence certification for professional welders for learner outputs at SMKN 2 Wonosari and SMKN 2 Pengasih. This research used phenomenological qualitative approach. The subjects were the principal, the teachers, the committee of certification program, and the assessors. To collect the data, the researcher conducted interviews, observation, and analyzing the documents on the subject of the research. The results of the study show that the implementation of the competence certification for professional welders in terms of : (1) The administrators’ readiness had been appropriate with the stages of the certification process; (2) The implementation of the program went well according to the schedule at the stage of plan, implementation, and evaluation; (3) Supporting factors in the implementation of the program has been well supported with the form of moral and material as well as inhibiting factors is the lack of funds to repair facilities and infrastructure; (4 ) Impact of welding competence certification program for the learner outputs embedded in increasing learner outputs' achievements, confidence, and easiness to get their jobs at the company and earn higher salary.

Abstract

This community service activity is in partnership with the Hargomulyo District/Village Owned Enterprise (BUMDes).. The problems being addressed include the unavailability of natural zeolite rock crushing machine equipment to produce zeolite sand. This activity aims to provide a small-capacity natural zeolite rock crushing machine and train machine operations to produce zeolite sand. Considering the expensive new machines and limited funds, procuring rock crushing machines was carried out by upgrading used rock crushing machines in a workshop. The crushing machine has a chopper, a driving motor powered by a generator, and a sieve for the crushed rock with three-grain sizes. Operational trials of the rock chopping machine show that the machine can produce natural zeolite sand with three-grain sizes. Furthermore, operational training on natural zeolite crushing machines was carried out, which was attended by 20 participants from the Hargomulyo community. This training can increase the empowerment of training participants. The observations during the training showed that 90% of participants could operate a rock-crushing machine to produce natural zeolite sand.

Abstract

Desalination technology, which has been the most widely utilized method of meeting the requirement for clean water for the past 50 years, can be employed in attempts to use seawater. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how variations in the composition of distilled water are affected by the multistage distillation of seawater from Cemara Sewu Beach, Bantul, Yogyakarta. LPG gas is used as fuel to heat sea water during the distillation process. To obtain distilled water, the seawater vapor is then condensed. Subsequently, the distillation procedure is executed in three phases, with every phase being evaluated using the distilled water. The overall CaCO3 hardness level in the first stage of distilled water is still high, thus it does not exceed clean water quality criteria. Meanwhile, in the second and third stages, there are two parameters, namely pH and total hardness level, which do not meet the clean water requirements. In general, the first stage of distilled water is sufficient to be processed into clean water with the addition of water hardness treatment. Repeated distillation has a tendency to reduce pH, total hardness, TDS, fluoride, nitrate and detergent.

Abstract

Corn is a well-cultivated food crop that is grown extensively worldwide. The used portion of corn is its seeds, which are rich in oil. The objective of this study is to separate and characterize tocopherol from corn oil in Dompu, Sumbawa by employing spectroscopic techniques such as ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometry, ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Subsequently, the in-vitro antioxidant activity of the tocopherol was assessed. 1 kilogram of dry maize kernels subjected to 70% ethanol extraction yielded 30 grams (35 ml) of corn oil. The purified isolate obtained from the fractionated extract, using radial chromatography, demonstrated the presence of tocopherol. The isolated sample exhibited the presence of beta-tocopherol. Beta-tocopherol's anti-aging properties were assessed by conducting an in-vitro antioxidant activity test utilizing the tyrosinase enzyme. The IC50 value obtained was 83.954±2.849 ppm. The IC50 value indicates that beta-tocopherol possesses significant antioxidant activity, making it suitable for usage as a primary ingredient in cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.

Abstract

The cathode material is one of the key factors in enhancing the overall performance of microbial electrosynthesis system (MES). Nickel-based materials are the best option for cathodes in MES due to their excellent catalytic activity. This study aims to evaluate the performance of nickel foam (NF) as self-cathode material in MES for acetate production from CO2. A biocatalyst at the cathode was provided using a mixed-culture of anaerobic sludge from palm oil mill effluent (POME). The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to analyze the cathode surface morphology, while high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to quantify the volatile fatty acids (VFAs) in the effluent. The results indicate that the self-cathode NF exhibited excellent performance, achieving an acetate production rate (QAcetate) of 46.0 mM/d, compared to 41.7 mM/d with a graphite felt (GF) cathode at a cathode potential of -0.8 V. Additionally, the self-cathode NF in the MES system demonstrated a coulombic efficiency (CE) of approximately 22.9%. Moreover, the type of cathode material and the microbial community attached to the cathode surface significantly influenced MES performance.

Abstract

The volume of municipal waste has become a national problem so far, so a solution is needed to reduce the waste problem. One solution to reduce the volume of municipal waste is to burn waste. However, the combustion needs to be designed to take advantage of the heat generated by combustion. In this study, the process of burning waste with various types of waste materials was carried out. The heat of burning waste is used to evaporate 1 liter of seawater and the seawater vapor is cooled to produce distilled water. The volume of distilled water and the precipitated salt were weighed. The results of the research from the variation of 6 types of waste materials obtained that the type of clothing waste material gave the fastest time, which was 43.75 minutes, the amount of distilled water was 931 ml, and salt deposited as much as 30 grams. The test results on distilled water showed that almost all parameters met the requirements of drinking water and obtained a salt content of 84%. Further processing by adjusting the hardness is needed to process distilled water into clean water and the addition of iodine can be considered to produce iodized salt.

Abstract

The unemployment rate for vocational high school graduates is still very high. Unemployment occurs because the level of work readiness is still low. Work readiness can be improved by applying competence mastery-oriented learning. Competence that is complete requires measurement tools or assessment of student work competencies to measure competency success. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) produce a product in the form of a practical performance assessment tool for students in the conveyor-based pandemic era with android control; (2) know the quality and performance of the developed tools; This research is development research using the method of combining the waterfall method and Borg & Gall. This research focuses on product functionality so that testing is carried out by technicians with input from experts from the industry. The research data were obtained from observations, interviews, document studies, and questionnaires. The results of this study are as follows: (1) the product developed already has basic functions and can be operated using Android; (2) the results of testing by technicians from the aspects of functionality, reliability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability obtained a conformity percentage of 90% (Very Good), so that the tool can be used to test student work readiness in vocational schools or training institutions.

Abstract

Plastic waste has become a significant problem of environmental pollution in recent decades. The nature of plastic waste is complicated to decompose; it has worsened the environmental situation, especially if it is not taken seriously immediately. One approach that can be taken to overcome this problem is to provide counseling to the public so that they do not dispose of plastic waste carelessly. The community service program is a forum for academics to participate and provide counseling about the management of plastic waste. The purpose of this community service program is to counsel the Panjangrejo community about how to manage plastic waste properly. This counseling program began with discussions with the Panjangrejo sub-district officials and related parties, then continued with planning the timing of the extension. Residents and community elements are fully involved, so this program can run smoothly. The counseling program was carried out in three villages, namely the villages of Semampir, Gunung Puyuh, and Krapyak Wetan, and this program was held at night from 20.00 WIB to 22.00 WIB. The outreach results showed that people's knowledge about the dangers of plastic waste and how to manage it could be significantly improved (p < 0.05). In general, this extension program successfully increased respondents' knowledge from "not knowing" to "knowing better" about the dangers and how to manage plastic waste.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki dampak penerapan pembelajaran berbasis game terhadap motivasi dan prestasi belajar siswa. Melalui metode studi literatur, kami menjelajahi literatur yang relevan untuk memahami keterkaitan antara pembelajaran berbasis game, motivasi belajar, dan prestasi belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis game memiliki potensi besar dalam meningkatkan motivasi siswa melalui pengalaman belajar yang interaktif dan menarik. Penggunaan elemen permainan, seperti tantangan dan umpan balik instan, membantu meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Selain itu, pembelajaran berbasis game juga dapat berdampak positif terhadap prestasi belajar siswa. Integrasi konten akademis ke dalam format permainan meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan kemampuan siswa dalam menerapkan pengetahuan dalam konteks praktis. Walaupun demikian, penelitian menyoroti perlunya desain pembelajaran yang kontekstual dan pemahaman mendalam terhadap faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi efektivitasnya. Kesimpulannya, pembelajaran berbasis game dapat dianggap sebagai alternatif yang efektif untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan prestasi belajar siswa. Implementasi lebih lanjut dan penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk mengoptimalkan potensinya, dengan mempertimbangkan variasi dalam desain pembelajaran dan karakteristik siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan metode penilaian otentik guna mengevaluasi kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa melalui pendekatan studi literatur. Melibatkan riset literatur awal yang mendalam, penelitian ini memfokuskan pada pemahaman konsep berpikir kritis, evaluasi mahasiswa, dan metode penilaian otentik yang telah diterapkan sebelumnya dalam pendidikan tinggi. Temuan dari kajian literatur membentuk dasar untuk memilih instrumen penilaian otentik yang relevan dengan tujuan penelitian. Pemilihan metode penilaian otentik dari literatur disertai dengan penerapan instrumen tersebut pada kelompok mahasiswa sebagai subjek penelitian. Hasil penilaian memberikan gambaran yang lebih akurat tentang kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa, memvalidasi efektivitas metode ini dalam mengukur aspek-aspek kritis berpikir. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan metode penilaian otentik melalui studi literatur dapat menjadi landasan yang kuat dalam meningkatkan evaluasi kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa di institusi pendidikan tinggi. Implikasi praktisnya mencakup pengembangan instrumen penilaian yang relevan dengan konteks pendidikan tinggi, memberikan panduan bagi para pendidik dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran.
