Abstract

Objective: Death of pregnant women due to bleeding is the main cause in Lamongan. The biggest cause is postpartum hemorrhage due to nutritional deficiencies, especially anemia. Anemia is one of the four main nutritional problems in Indonesia which has a fairly high prevalence and is often caused by nutritional deficiencies, especially iron. This study aims to determine the relationship between anemia in pregnancy and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. Methods: Design a case-control study with a retrospective observational approach, collecting data on maternal medical records in January-December 2021 in Bulutigo Laren-Lamongan Village, using a Simple Random Sampling technique with a sample size of 146 mothers who were divided into case groups and control groups. The dependent variable is anemia of pregnancy and the independent variable is postpartum hemorrhage. The research instrument used a check list to assess the incidence of anemia and an observation sheet to assess the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. Data were analyzed by Chi Square test with ️ = 0.05. Results: The results of statistical tests showed that there was a significant relationship between anemia and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. The combined odds ratio (OR) showed that the effect of anemic pregnant women on postpartum hemorrhage was 45.7 times higher than that of non-anemic mothers (95% CI: 16.05-117.94; p<0.000). Conclusion: Pregnant women with anemia are 45.7 times more likely to experience postpartum hemorrhage than pregnant women who do not experience anemia. Anemia of pregnancy can be detected by regular antenatalcare (ANC) examinations

Abstract

Kata Kunci: ketidakpastian, strategi koping, kanker payudara, kemotherapi ABSTRACT Chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer sufferers is felt to be full of uncertainty, even though this is the best way to stop cancer. This study aims to determine the relationship between feelings of uncertainty and coping strategies when undergoing chemotherapy treatment. An observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 141 breast cancer sufferers who underwent chemotherapy treatment for 3 months. Respondents were administered a self-administered questionnaire-based Survey of feelings of uncertainty and coping strategies. The variable dimension of feelings of ambiguity in the uncertainty variable is significantly related to coping strategies with r values: 0.381** and p; 0.000 < of α 0.001, and overall feelings of uncertainty are significantly associated with coping strategies in breast cancer sufferers undergoing chemotherapy treatment with a value of r; 0.379** and p: 0.000 < α 0.001. Exposure to feelings of uncertainty in life encourages efforts to use effective coping strategies so that the stronger the feeling of uncertainty in life that is felt, the more effective the use of coping strategies will be in undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer sufferers. Abstract

Background: Degenerative diseases develop as organ function declines due to the natural aging process. The prevalence of these diseases reaches approximately 65.7%, with a significant increase observed in heart disease and stroke cases. Objective: This community service program aimed to increase public understanding of degenerative disease control through comprehensive prevention and management strategies. Method: The activity was conducted through educational sessions consisting of lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer segments. To assess participants’ understanding, a pre-test and post-test were administered, each comprising ten questions with a maximum score of ten per question. The average score was calculated to measure improvement. In addition, health checks were performed, including body weight, height, blood pressure, waist circumference, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol measurements as part of early detection and control efforts. Results: There was a noticeable increase in knowledge regarding the prevention and management of degenerative diseases based on 74 participants’ post-test. Health screening results 11 participants have overweight, 15 particpants have hypertension, 5 participants have pre-diabetic, 7 participants have hypercholesterolemia, and 6 participants have hyperuricemia. Meanwhile, 5 participants were found to be underweight. Conclusion: Education on the control of degenerative diseases has a positive impact on maintaining public health. Preventive efforts remain essential to achieving a better quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: In recent years, the prevalence of breast cancer has increased globally, including in Indonesia. Despite its high prevalence, patient adherence to treatment remains low. Social support is known to be one of the factors that can increase patient adherence. Although many studies have explained the relationship between social support and adherence in breast cancer patients, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between social support and patient adherence using uncertainty as a mediator. Methods: A descriptive and correlational survey was conducted in a regional hospital in Surabaya, Indonesia. A convenience sample of 165 Indonesian breast cancer patients voluntarily participated in the study and responded to a set of questionnaires, including a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Social Support Scale (SSS), the ShortForm Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (SF-MUIS), and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS8). Results: The results revealed that breast cancer patients with higher social support found it easier to undergo treatment, resulting in better adherence. Patients who experienced higher social support had reduced uncertainty through improved subjective perceptions and reduced evaluations of the severity of stressful illness events. In addition, uncertainty significantly mediated the relationship between social support and patient adherence. Conclusions: These findings indicate that social support for breast cancer patients improves patient adherence. Moreover, healthcare providers can help breast cancer patients
