Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan petani lokal di Kampung Matoa, Kecamatan Prafi, Kabupaten Manokwari, dalam penerapan teknologi pertanian sederhana. Petani di wilayah ini menghadapi tantangan signifikan akibat keterbatasan akses terhadap teknologi modern, yang mengakibatkan ketergantungan pada metode tradisional yang kurang produktif. Melalui pelatihan yang dilaksanakan pada 25 Januari 2025, peserta diberikan materi teori dan praktik mengenai sistem irigasi sederhana, penggunaan pupuk organik, dan teknik pengendalian hama alami. Evaluasi menggunakan kuesioner pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman yang signifikan, dengan rata-rata skor post-test mencapai 82,5, meningkat 120% dibandingkan pre-test. Respons peserta terhadap pelatihan sangat positif, meskipun terdapat kendala dalam akses alat dan perubahan pola pikir. Diperlukan dukungan berkelanjutan untuk memastikan keberlanjutan penerapan teknologi ini.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of botanical pesticide use on pest infestation rates in Indonesia using a quantitative approach. Data were collected from 65 respondents involved in agricultural activities through a structured questionnaire based on a Likert scale. The study focuses on measuring respondents’ perceptions regarding the use, effectiveness, and environmental impact of botanical pesticides, as well as the level of pest infestation experienced. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS Version 25, including descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, and simple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that botanical pesticide use has a significant negative effect on pest infestation rates, with a regression coefficient of -0.278 and a significance value of 0.003 (< 0.05). This finding suggests that increased use of botanical pesticides contributes to a reduction in pest infestation levels. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.135 indicates that 13.5% of the variation in pest infestation rates can be explained by botanical pesticide use, while the remaining variation is influenced by other factors. In conclusion, botanical pesticides are an effective and environmentally friendly alternative for pest management in Indonesia, although their impact is moderate and should be integrated with other pest control strategies. This study contributes to the development of sustainable agriculture by providing empirical evidence on the role of botanical pesticides in reducing pest infestation rates.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Plant pests and diseases threaten horticultural production in Kwau, where farmers often rely on synthetic pesticides without adequate understanding of safe use, human and environmental risks, or pesticide resistance. This community engagement introduced plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as a biological approach to plant pest organisms, using local materials to lower cost and reduce travel to Manokwari for chemical purchases. Sessions at the Kwau village hall and a demonstration in a farmer’s garden delivered plain-language guidance on PGPR concepts, simple production, and safe application. Farmers participated actively and responded enthusiastically, indicating greater awareness of biological control and a practical entry point for using PGPR. Lasting benefits will depend on structured follow-up with farmers and local institutions. Pengabdian ini memperkenalkan Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) sebagai alternatif hayati pengendalian Organisme Pengganggu Tumbuhan memakai bahan lokal guna menekan biaya dan ketergantungan pada pembelian pestisida kimia di Manokwari. Pelatihan di Balai Kampung Kwau dilanjutkan demonstrasi di kebun petani dengan penyampaian bahasa sehari-hari tentang konsep PGPR, pembuatan sederhana, dan aplikasi aman. Peserta antusias dan aktif, menandakan peningkatan kesadaran pengendalian hayati dan titik awal praktik PGPR. Manfaat berkelanjutan bergantung pada pendampingan lanjutan bersama mitra setempat.
