Abstract

The study conducted quantitative research using a True Experimental Design approach known as Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, involving all grade X students of Senior High School. Cluster Random Sampling was used to select the experimental and control classes. Normality and variant homogeneity tests were conducted. Data analysis utilized a 5% significance level and paired sample t-test for hypothesis testing. Results indicated the REACT strategy effectively improved students' higher-order thinking skills. In the control class, a significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test scores, as well as in the experimental class. Observation sheet assessments showed an average score of 87.5, confirming successful application of the REACT strategy in the learning process. Therefore, the analysis demonstrates the superiority of the REACT strategy over conventional methods in enhancing the higher-order thinking skills of grade X students at Senior High School.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of using GeoGebra as a geometric visualization tool on reducing mathematics anxiety among students in a Mathematics Education program. GeoGebra, an interactive software, enables dynamic visualization of geometric concepts, potentially fostering deeper conceptual understanding and alleviating anxiety in learning mathematics. A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, consisting of three phases: preparation, implementation, and data analysis. Data were collected through a mathematics anxiety questionnaire administered before and after the intervention using Google Forms. The participants were 45 Mathematics Education students enrolled in an Analytical Geometry course. Data analysis involved tests of normality, homogeneity, and a paired sample t-test. The results indicate that: (1) GeoGebra effectively reduces students' anxiety in learning geometry; (2) its interactive visualizations enhance conceptual understanding and mitigate anxiety levels; (3) there is a statistically significant difference in anxiety levels before and after the use of GeoGebra; and (4) students reported a more enjoyable and less stressful learning environment, which increased their engagement with the course content. These findings suggest that integrating GeoGebra into geometry instruction can be a valuable pedagogical strategy for reducing mathematics anxiety and promoting meaningful learning experiences

Abstract

This research aims to identify students' statistical literacy abilities, and this type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this research consisted of 24 Sociology Education students from Muhammadiyah University of Kupang taking statistics courses in the 2023/2024 academic year. The instrument used is an assignment consisting of 2 questions. Data analysis was done by analyzing students' answer documents to complete the assignments given. Students' statistical literacy abilities are identified using five statistical literacy competencies: understanding statistical concepts, insight into the application of statistical concepts, calculation and graphing skills, interpretation abilities, and visualization and communication skills. The research results show that more than 50% of students can fulfill statistical literacy competencies such as understanding statistical concepts, numeracy, interpretation, and communication skills. However, less than 50% of students do not meet competency in insight into the application of statistical concepts and visualization skills. Students' abilities in essential statistical literacy competencies still need to be improved because most students still have limitations in these competencies.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop an Integrative Model of Mathematical Well-Being and Anxiety Reduction (I-WARM) based on the perspectives of secondary school teachers and students in Kupang City, Indonesia. A mixed-methods sequential exploratory design was employed, involving 211 students and 32 mathematics teachers. Quantitative data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires to measure levels of mathematical well-being and mathematics anxiety, while qualitative data explored pedagogical practices and classroom environments that support students’ well-being. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to describe the level of each variable, instrument validity and reliability tests (through item-total correlation and Cronbach’s Alpha), and Pearson correlation analysis. Meanwhile, qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques through the processes of data reduction, coding, categorization, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students’ mathematical well-being was at a moderate to high level, whereas mathematics anxiety was at a moderate level. Correlation analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between mathematical well-being and mathematics anxiety (r = −0.236, p < 0.05). Qualitative results highlight autonomy-supportive teaching, competence development, and social relatedness as key protective factors against mathematics anxiety. By synthesizing Self-Determination Theory and Control-Value Theory, the proposed I-WARM model provides a conceptual roadmap for educators to foster resilient learning environments. These findings suggest that reducing anxiety requires a shift from deficit-based interventions to well-being-centered pedagogical strategies.
