Abstract

The development of the cosmetic industry created many new variations of cosmetic products. One of the beauty products that was developing was a stick mask with the benefit of preventing premature aging. Binahong (A. cordifolia) leaf was one of the plants that had antioxidant activity because of flavonoids that prevent premature aging of the skin. The study aimed to make a stick mask of ethanol extract of binahong (A. cordifolia) leaf and evaluation and test the antioxidant activity using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method of the stick mask preparation. The preparation formulation was performed with variations in extract concentration at F0 0%, F1 25%, F2 30%, and F3 35%. Evaluation of the preparation includes organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesives, dry time, and melting point test showed that the preparations met the standard requirements. The antioxidant activity of binahong (A. cordifolia) leaf ethanol extract stick mask in F3 with 35% extract concentration resulted in very strong antioxidant category with IC₅₀ 1,500 μg/mL.   Keywords:  Antioxidant, Binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Abstract

Soyghurt contains antioxidant compounds such as isoflavones which is derived from soybeans as main ingredient for making soyghurt. To increase antioxidant activity, it is necessary to add other antioxidant compounds such as anthocyanins which is found in Syzygium myrtifolium Walp. which also acts as a red pigment. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of adding Syzygium myrtifolium leaf extract to the antioxidant activity of soyghurt. It began with the making of soy milk then fermented with Lactobacillus bulgaricus into soyghurt. Plants were extracted by maceration in ethanol and made a dry extract. The addition of dried extract to soyghurt was carried out in 3 concentrations, 1%, 3% and 5%. The results of antioxidant activity assay using the free radical DPPH scavenging method showed that there was a decrease in the IC50 in soyghurt fortified with extract compared to soyghurt without extract. The higher concentration of extract, the smaller IC50 value. Soyghurt with 5% extract had the smallest IC50 (694.14 g/mL) while the IC50 of soyghurt without extract was 2823.17 g/mL. The conclusion is that fortification of Syzygium myrtifolium leaf extract has an effect on the antioxidant activity of soyghurt.

Abstract

Oral health is an important aspect that should be considered as part of broader efforts to improve overall health (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). The prevalence of dental issues has increased from 23.3% to 25.9%. One of the major dental problems in Indonesia is dental caries, which is classified as a disease. Research on the activity of green tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) from various solvent polarity levels has been conducted. This study aims to identify the activity of green tea leaf extract and its inhibitory effect on the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The extraction method used in this study was maceration with three solvent polarities: n-hexane (non-polar), ethyl acetate (semi-polar), and ethanol (polar). The extract's ability to inhibit bacteria was tested using the disc diffusion method. The results showed that 96% ethanol at a concentration of 10% had an inhibition zone of 11.02 mm (strong category).

Abstract

There are many major problems with the skin, especially the face, that occur in some men and women. Acne is a skin disorder characterized by inflammation of the skin. Acne caused by Propionibacterium acnes bacteria is generally treated by Clindamycin capsules 300 g. However, the drug clyndamicin used by the oral route has side effects. So, there are alternative anti-acne drugs that have fewer side effects. Clove leaves from the clove tree can be used as medicine. The tannin compounds in clove leaves have antibacterial activity. In this research method, an acne patch preparation is made from clove leaf extract (includes collecting the ingredients to be tested, namely clove leaves, processing simplicia, making extracts, making acne patch formulations, and testing the antibacterial activity of Propionibacterium acnes using the well method. The results of the highest inhibition large, namely at F3 (10%) at 21,213mm very strong, F2 (7.5%) at 19,658mm strong and F1 (5%) at 18,788mm strong.

Abstract

COVID-19 remains a major global health threat. In addition to implementing health protocols and consuming supplements, proactive prevention strategies are essential to limit the spread of the virus. One of the most promising approaches is the use of vaccines, particularly peptide-based vaccines, which are under active development. This study aimed to design a peptide vaccine derived from the SARS-CoV-2 papain-like protease (PLpro) and evaluate its interaction with key components of the human immune system, namely Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3), major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I), and class II (MHC-II). The research employed an immunoinformatics approach utilizing NetCTL, IEDB Tepitool, PEP-FOLD3, trRosetta, HDOCK, GalaxyRefine2, and other molecular modeling tools. The designed vaccine construct was visualized in 3D using trRosetta and validated through ERRAT2, achieving a 100% quality score, indicating excellent structural integrity. The docking simulations demonstrated stable interactions between the vaccine and the immune receptors, suggesting strong immunogenic potential. In conclusion, the in silico-designed peptide vaccine based on SARS-CoV-2 PLpro shows promise in triggering immune responses through stable binding with TLR3, MHC-I, and MHC-II, highlighting its potential as a candidate for further experimental validation in COVID-19 vaccine development.
