Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to explore the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation (EO), market orientation, product innovation, and competitive advantage within Muslim clothing SMEs. This study provides insights into how these factors interact and contribute to the overall success of these enterprises.Methodology – This quantitative study explores the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation, product innovation, and competitive advantage in the Muslim clothing industry. Using a proportional sample of 103 employees from Muslim clothing SMEs in East Java, data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed via multiple regression to assess direct and mediating effects.Findings – The key findings reveal that entrepreneurial orientation positively impacts product innovation, indicating that entrepreneurial companies are more innovative. Additionally, EO significantly influences market orientation, making firms more responsive to their market needs. EO enhances competitive advantage, whereas market orientation negatively impacts it, suggesting that excessive focus on the market may hinder differentiation. Conversely, product innovation positively affects a firm’s competitive advantage. The study finds that market orientation does not mediate the relationship between EO and competitive advantage, whereas product innovation does.Implications – These findings provide practical insights for SMEs in the Muslim clothing industry. Companies should cultivate entrepreneurial orientation to boost innovation and competitive advantage, balancing market orientation to avoid stifling differentiation. Originality – This study contributes to the literature by investigating the intricate relationships between EO, market orientation, product innovation, and competitive advantage in Muslim Clothing SMEs, emphasizing the mediating role of product innovation.

Abstract

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are resilient in facing the economic crisis have the potential to become an important economic driving force by being able to absorb labor and significantly reduce the unemployment rate. However, MSMEs often face challenges in managing their financial aspects, especially in terms of proper and correct accounting records. To overcome this problem, training is an effective solution. Training on good and correct accounting records can help MSMEs entrepreneurs to increase their understanding in managing their business finances. The results of the implementation of this training activity show that MSME entrepreneurs initially did not understand the accounting recording process, but after going through the training, they were able to improve their abilities in this matter. Thus, training on accounting records can be an effective step in strengthening MSMEs and helping them face the various challenges they face in managing their businesses financially.

Abstract

This article examines the role of money in Islamic economics based on the thoughts of Abu Ubaid (154-224 H) as outlined in Kitab Al-Amwal, addressing contemporary economic issues related to wealth distribution and financial transparency in public management. The primary aim of this study is to explore Abu Ubaid’s ideas on the central importance of justice as a foundation of economic systems, particularly regarding the proper function of money within a just and transparent framework. Utilizing a qualitative, literature-based analytical method, this article reviews Abu Ubaid’s view that money serves two main roles: as a standard of value for pricing goods and services, and as a medium of exchange that facilitates trade without encouraging hoarding. Abu Ubaid argued that money should not be a means for excessive wealth accumulation but should be used to maintain economic balance and promote the welfare of society. The findings suggest that Abu Ubaid’s principles offer practical guidance for policymakers in designing an inclusive and sustainable Islamic economic system that addresses inequality and promotes equitable wealth distribution. His insights provide a valuable contribution to the development of Islamic economics, prioritizing justice, efficiency, and transparency, and presenting a relevant alternative to conventional economic systems.

Abstract

Objective: This study examines the moderating role of employee competence in the relationship between ICT diversification and employee performance in SMEs within the e-commerce shoe sector in East Java, Indonesia. Research Design & Methods: An explanatory approach was used, employing Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to test the hypothesis. Data were collected from 90 employees using standardized questionnaires and analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Findings: The results show that both ICT diversification and employee competency positively and significantly influence employee performance. The interaction between ICT diversification and employee competency further enhances the relationship between these factors and employee performance. Initially, the model demonstrated a strong relationship between ICT diversification and employee performance, which became even stronger when employee competency was included as a moderating variable. This indicates that employee competency plays a significant role in amplifying the positive effects of ICT diversification on performance. Implications and Recommendations: The findings offer practical insights for SMEs to improve performance through targeted ICT training and competency development. However, the study is limited to the e-commerce shoe sector in East Java, which may limit the generalizability of the results. Future research should expand to diverse industries and wider geographical locations to validate these findings. Contribution & Value Added: This research addresses the gap in understanding the moderating effect of employee competence on the relationship between ICT and performance in SMEs, offering new insights into strategic human resource management.

Abstract

Abstract: This research investigates the impact of external dynamics, human capital, business strategy, and innovation capability on the financial outcomes of Muslim clothing SMEs in East Java, Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design, the study employs Structural Equation modelling (SEM) for data analysis. Data were gathered through surveys targeting managers of Muslim clothing SMEs in five regions of East Java, selecting 200 managers with at least two years of managerial experience using judgment sampling. The survey collected information on demographics, organisational experience, and perceptions regarding key variables. The results indicate that human capital positively affects financial outcomes but does not directly influence innovation capability. Business strategy significantly impacts both financial outcomes and innovation capability. Furthermore, a positive correlation is observed between financial outcomes and innovation capability. These findings highlight the necessity of enhancing human capital and implementing effective strategies to boost performance and innovation within SMEs. This study contributes to the academic literature by establishing financial outcomes as a mediator and external dynamics as a moderator in these interactions. However, the study’s emphasis on a specific region and industry may limit its generalizability. Future research should explore additional factors that affect innovation and performance and broaden the analysis to different sectors for a more extensive understanding. Abstract

This study investigates the direct and indirect effects of digital transformation and climate change awareness on SME financial performance, with green technology adoption serving as a mediating variable. Drawing from stakeholder theory and the resource-based view, this research addresses a key gap in understanding how digital and environmental initiatives interact within halal-oriented small businesses. Empirical data from 192 halal food SME owners and managers in East Java were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) across 32 indicators. Findings reveal that digital transformation significantly enhances both green technology adoption and financial performance, underscoring its strategic value in expanding market access and operational efficiency. While climate change awareness strongly encourages green technology adoption, it lacks a direct financial impact. Notably, green technology adoption shows a negative effect on financial performance, likely due to high initial costs and integration challenges. The study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the complex trade-offs between environmental innovation and profitability in emerging market SMEs. It suggests that digital strategies may serve as a bridge toward sustainability without undermining financial goals. Practical implications include the need for targeted government incentives and support mechanisms to offset green transition costs and bolster competitive resilience in halal food SMEs.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates the relationship between Islamic work ethic, job satisfaction, and employee engagement, with transformational leadership as a moderating variable. It aims to assess whether job satisfaction mediates the impact of Islamic work ethic on engagement and if transformational leadership enhances these effects. The research offers insights into how ethical values and leadership styles influence employee engagement at Brangkal Printing. Method – A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design was used, involving all 75 employees at Brangkal Printing through total sampling. Data were gathered using a likert-scale questionnaire to measure Islamic work ethic, job satisfaction, transformational leadership, and employee engagement. The data analysis technique used in this study is partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings – The results reveal that the Islamic work ethic does not directly influence employee engagement but positively impacts job satisfaction, which enhances engagement, confirming the mediating role of job satisfaction. Transformational leadership directly affects engagement but does not significantly moderate the relationships examined. Implications – This research highlights the significance of the Islamic work ethic in improving job satisfaction and engagement while highlighting the context-dependent nature of transformational leadership. It extends existing theories by emphasizing the influence of cultural and ethical values on workplace behavior. Organizations should enhance job satisfaction through a supportive work environment, fair compensation, and career development. Integrating Islamic values into leadership strategies can optimize employee motivation, commitment, and engagement, leading to better performance.
